I was very pleased to watch your technique. Many bladesmiths harden then sharpen. I never saw the logic of working hardened steel. All of my work I use your approach of fully working the metal then hardening.

Just the fact that you didn't forge the curve into the blade, and you actually quenched it in like it's supposed to be 🙏🙌 Proper traditional Japanese Technique. My personal biggest pet peeve of any katana build I see. Edit: before anyone comments, yes, I know this is a wakizashi.

That is amazing! That also looked like an unbelievable amount of work! I have always wanted to see a larger wootz blade on your channel - the outcome is so impressive and of course that includes the handle. It would be really interesting to know what the properties of your wootz steel are like - the history and mystery around wootz is just so deep. I also wish I understood more of the steps in your technique - I mean aside from the secret recipe of course! Thank you for adding those captions!

Wootz steel is a very strong steel and has very nice pattern when forged into swords. Tipu Sultan's sword was forged from Wootz steel. It's so beautiful

That is the original damascus steel which was invented in India and was exported to Syria on early ages when discovered.

Wootz has been around for at least 2,000 years, it's kinda like Damascus steel before it was Damascus. Kind of.

Lost the temper on several spots along the edge. An oven temper cycle would have been cheaper, easier and with better results on a smaller piece like that. Still, looks nice. Earned my sub.

for future reference if you decide to make more japanese inspired weaponry, you should always clay and quench the blade as one of the final steps before polishing and should never sand it afterwards lest you lose your hamon line
