That was me and the missus in the Skoda, we were on our way to the hospital as she was in labour, her waters had already broken, she had the baby there and then, in the back seat, it was a water birth in the end! The baby is all well and healthy, we've named him Duncun, after the famous swimmer, it was between that and David, but we went for Duncan! Yes i know it was stupid to drive through a flood but hey ho, hopefully the insurance will cover it.

No its far simpler than that the green commies have passed laws to stop the dredging of rivers, like we had been doing for the past 1000 years, consequently they lack the capacity to drain away water and all the new housing estates they built on flood plains get flooded. but if you want to believe Bgates is some kind of God and agreeing with the anti carbonists that the climate is "changing" then you carry on.

Thanks for the moist update, Geoff. It was a buzzard being mobbed by the crows btw. Wings too chunky and fan tail rather than a fork. An additional hazard to beware when driving through floods is the popped drain cover. They're not always in the gutter. If you put a wheel into one of those holes it's game over.

And it's a local Reg as well so I guess they should have known the road! I did that once in an Astra and was dark and didn't notice the deep water with a bright moon. Soon found out though as the water came in. Called my wife in embarrassment who came down with the land rover and pulled me out and back home all be it just a mile!. It took me ages drying it out and draining the water from the engine where I used a wet and dry vacuum cleaner through the glow plug holes. It did run again and didn't seem to have any issues. I sold it over ten years ago and notice it's still on the road.

If there weren’t such people, the climate change catastrophists would not be able to blame car drivers for causing ‘climate change’, and might have to admit that the rivers are only prone to flooding because they’re all silted up - because the Waterways Agency stopped dredging the slow meandering rivers in the 1970s as part of a false pretext of preserving the delicate ecosystems. Apparently there’s a very well documented and long accepted water flow engineering principle that, if you dredge a deep V-shaped central channel along the course of a slow meandering river, the water will flow more quickly and efficiently, thus removing excessive quantities of water from upstream, during periods of high rainfall, and vastly reducing the risks of flooding. It’s really very obvious. All liquids flow faster down narrow channels, and slower down wide channels. Here’s the final lesson: I learned that this principle is used in the design of sewers, from my half brother John who I disliked because of the way he badmouthed my Dad on the day of his funeral. In 2020 John participated in the obviously unsafe and ineffective chemistry experiment, and died. He was obese and apparently had other issues apart from being a prize (see yoU Next Tuesday. So, the moral of the story is that it’s apparently possible to learn useful stuff from prize (see yoU Next Tuesdays…! Peace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Very true what you say about going through floods in the dark, never, unless you are prepared to walk through it all the way first, bearing in mind a point on the front of your car to measure against the depth of water, can also be the same in daylight in you don't know the road. As for the Red Kites, a few months back, like when it was actually sunny and warm at the same time, we counted 12 red kites cicling on the thermals where we live in South Shropshire-sh-shire.

It is not so much the river needing dredged but the fields need to be given better boundaries to the river! But the bigger problem is the bridge is in fact a pinch point and has to be replaced with one that allows the river to flow freely under it! If the council deem to do that then they would be better raising the road on both sides to the height of the new bridge surface! But if this is only a "B" road they will do SFA about it all!

Geoff, you need a Xantia or a C5, adjustable suspension. I've had both, excellent in not-too-deep water, comfy too

Geoff at the end of September, I had to drive through the flooding around the river Stortford just outside of Bishop Stortford and Hertfordshire and my van is very lower astravan 60mm drop. But I would not drive through flood road in Saab 95 but where air intake is and air filter

We're on the receiving end (just downstream of the confluence with the Teme) so there are the ''barriers'' in Bewdley, Stourbridge, etc, as well as the ''constriction'' in Upton, to ensure we get a good dollop! I think the floods are getting worse in many rural places because of these ''barriers''. I know people want their properties protected, but this seems to be at the expense of farmland.

GEOFF ......... I'm so glad that the couple from the car - and their newborn baby boy ... Duncan ... are ok. I recently thought that electric cars could potentially be extremely vulnerable when crossing through flood water. Like my hybrid, I assume that all electric cars have fan-driven air-cooling for the battery. Once the water level gets to fan level, who knows how long before a fragile lithium battery decides to have a thermal runaway to dry itself out (I wonder whether the Skoda had a Lithium or Nimh battery ?).

They have seeded the clouds for the past week or so in North Wales too and flooded many parts of it. They are still seeding today and it is raining again. I am fed up with geoengineered weather warfare.

I think they’re keeping them low, same with the elan valley, apparently it’s for ‘maintenance’. Never seen them so low. Something going on there.

Birmingham around 6 years ago trying to escape after viewing my last car was a nightmare . trying to get 12 miles south of Birmingham it was like we on island every way had flood some ive never seen rapids crossing a road a full on river some fords were at at least 3ft and moving a such a speed nothing was passing. my brother in his diesel clio it took him from around 2pm to around 10pm to get out and early night due to near winter its scary passing through floods in dark on country roads, we had no options than stay night but he had work and keys to open up old wilkos i was hanging out the window monitoring water level the most dodgy crossing was at bottom of a huge dam it must been 2.5ft it was half way up the door the car trying to float water was coming in through pedals being flooded a bottom of a dam makes you thing has dam be compromised, every road we went down so many turn rounds to find the least flooded and some points it was a big worry as go through one flood to high area heavy rain to meet another flood a high risk getting trapped and was high point enough, must spent 3 hours hanging out the window as front window was useless seeing how deep, we got home many hours later and id never go back to Birmingham when floods, few days later collected car did not go through one flood. floods and night time na i think next time i book hotel but brother had work and only keys to open up shop so we spent so many hours mostly in flood water trying to find a passable way out and some very scary still have no idea how clio diesel got through them

Funny thing. I have a Skoda Superb, and just went to the tip. The entrance was under about three feet, so I just revved up and ploughed through it!!! Same on the way out. As long as the exhaust gases are going out, and you give it some thrutch,. you'll be ok!!!😂
@saxon-mt5by
@saxon-mt5by 3 күн бұрын
Good luck with that philosophy; the real danger is if the car has a low-mounted engine intake - the exhaust gases exiting the rear are just a prelude to sucking water into the inlet, and then you're hydro-locked.
