I doubt insurance covered any of these. If you willingly drive into flood water your insurance is usually null and void.

Why is no one stopping the people driving through, and instead just filming them? They can take the time to film people get into trouble and expense, but can’t spend the time to stop them from making a mistake?

I agree. It's crazy to just stand there and let people drive their cars into a river without warning them that driving their cars into a river is probably a bad idea.

Even if the engine doesn't suck water and instantly hydrolock, there's hot manifolds warping from getting cold water sloshed on them, and wiring, connectors, and electronic modules getting wet. There are people driving through the water who aren't going to have any problems until weeks later when the corrosion sets in and the contaminated lube in differentials and gear boxes have turned been churned into bad mayonnaise.

Hate to admit this but I suffered this fate in a Jaguar XJ40 20 yrs back. It was at night and pouring with rain so was not aware how deep the water was with the drains blocked with leaves, although saw the road was flooded and thought it would be a hoot to drive through fast. At the time I charged through the water and I never gave it a thought or even knew that the air intake pipe for the engine was quite low down in the engine bay. Even if it was high up....creating a bow wave like on this video is still going to suck in water. I was able to limp home a few hundred metres further up the road and the next morning took out the spark plugs and cranked the engine over and water gushed up out of the spark-plug holes like a sperm whale blowing its breather hole. "That's not good I thought". The engine was reconditioned, but what shocked me was when the mechanic showed me how the piston conrods were literally bent!.......really rammed home how incompressable water is. Needless to say won't do it again.

Happened to me, only I luckily only blocked the exhaust. I drove slowly through a big, what I thought was a puddle, turned out to be much deeper than I expected. I got lucky. All these people here judging these people probably live in cities and don’t have to deal with the regular flooding in rural areas. It’s very easy to misjudge how deep the water is, especially if your used to fording a bit of a flood, it only takes one time for it to get half a foot deeper than normal and the rest is history.
