February 28th Wordle, I almost got the word right on my second guess, I got 4 letters in the right spot (green), but I got it right on my third guess, so close. My go-to first word is trace, I actually heard that it’s one of the best words to start with according to AI using information theory.

My strategy is to look for letter pairs first. Th, sh, gh, nt, etc.

I suppose it really depends on what you consider "winning" to be - simply beating the game, or trying to do it in as few moves as possible. My average is 4.5 ish and I've never failed to solve it - but optimising to reduce the amount of guesses doesn't really matter for me, whereas accumulating as many letters as possible in the first two or three guesses to ensure I solve it overall, does.

Great point ... I'm happy if I solve it ... but I know some focus on winning in as few rounds as possible. I didn't get VIVID, so my winning streak is not 100%

I like to start with AUDIO because it ha a lot of vowels. Then I usually use BLENT for my second guess depending on how many letter I get on the first guess.

I start with about, 3 vowels!

I almost always use "oiler" and "gaudy" for my first two words, because then I know for certain all of the vowels used in the word (though I can't be certain about doubles), and I get a few common consonants and find out whether or not any 'y' is at the end of the word. Every once in a while I skip gaudy if I get at least two vowels and one or more consonants from oiler. I try to test "t" and "s" soon after that, and if only one vowel shows, I check if it's a double. If I don't have many letters from the first 2-3 rounds, I try to cover as many other consonants as I can while trying to resolve vowel locations.

I use much the same tragedy as you. I start with the words SUITE and OVARY. Once you have used all of the vowels, it is much easier to solve the puzzle. Instead of your R, L, G, and D, I have the S, T, R, and V. The V is usually pretty useless, but this system works well for me. I have tried other combinations such as, OLARY, OMARY, ONARY but they are not accepted as words. LOL. If there is a pair of words that include all the vowels (including Y) plus more common consonants, I have not yet found them.

@snowfleas5426 - a while after making that comment, I started using SAUTE and IRONY. I like them because like your words, they let you test if the word ends in E or Y, plus all of the consonants are very common. I haven't been playing Wordle recently, but those have served me very well. Hopefully they will be helpful to you, too.

CREST followed by DOULA usually gets me there in 4/3 guesses

If you swap out CREST for TIRES it might work better. I use SUITE and OVARY to start.

Stare is a much better starter word than rates or tears because it is known that none of the solution words ends in an "S" so tears will never win on first guess.

What is this app called. I installed wordle but it seems to be different than what you are playing. I see people posting word 290, word 291. Nowhere does the game I’m playing give a word number. Same concept however.

I don't think there is an app for this. I believe the only place you can play it is online at the NYTimes website. It's free 😁for now. Google NY Times and Wordle and you should find it. Good luck

There is a bit of luck involved ... so, occasionally, very occasionally, a 2. Am still waiting to get it on the first try ... when luck really kicks in!

3 is not average at all. even entropy maximizing computers average 3.5. the average for humans is about 4. 4 is average, 5 is not bad, 3 is good, 2 is awesome.
