Multimeters have come a long way over the years. Even the low to mid- priced meters will offer most needed features. The first meter that I ever used was a Simpson 260 ANALOG meter. You had to know how to read the scales behind the needle movement. That classic meter is still available today ( it’s not cheap ). Stay well , Jay. 👍👍👍
@WordofAdviceTV5 ай бұрын
I am sure they have! I started out with a digital meter so I don't know what that was like. Thank you for sharing your experience! I looked up the Simpson meter you mentioned and wow! They sell for $500-$800. Thank you for stopping by, take care and God bless!

@@WordofAdviceTV The biggest ADVANTAGE to an analog meter is being able to see variations in measurements in real time, not at the sampling rate of the digital meter.

I had a Simpson meter years and years ago, can't remember the model. But if I remember right, it had a case that had a roll desk type opening on the front of it. Wish I still had it,or knew where under all my stuff it might be buried. LoL 😉

Well, I didn’t know that you can test lightbulbs using a voltage meter. Usually if you can tell if a light bulb is burned out just try turning on with the light switch and see if the light turns on. If not, then the light is burned out. Thank you for showing us in this video.

Yes. You can use the max feature to essentially get the same results. I show how to do that with a DL389B in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/goOloIGlaK6qnNk

@WordofAdviceTV5 ай бұрын
First off, sorry to hear about your loss brother. That seriously sucks. As for the meter, my first impressions are good! I like it a lot. But I only recently got it so can't vouch for the longevity of it.. I used an older model for about 8 years (DL389B) and have no complaints about it. I actually still have it and it still works great. This new one is similar but with more options.

I have a question unrelated to the video and would appreciate your thoughts. Is it harder on your AC compressor to cycle on and off, or to run continuously?
@WordofAdviceTV5 ай бұрын
Running continuously is usually better. There is more wear and tear on the compressor if it cycles on and off frequently than if it just ran continuously. This is because of the inrush current or start up amps. There is much more strain on the compressor when it starts than when it is already running.
@trevmint56155 ай бұрын
What time frame is duty cycle measured in? 1hr, 10 minutes, 30 minutes?
@WordofAdviceTV5 ай бұрын
I can't say I am super familiar with measuring duty cycles (not something often used in HVAC) so if someone knows better please do pitch in. As far as I know, it's a 10 minute time frame.

I have a question: when does it matter where the decimal is when checking resistance? I have a similar meter, and I was checking the resistance to a small 15 amp fuse I believe it was. And I was getting a reading. Leading me to think it was a good fuse. Next day I have a more experienced tech with me, and he checks the same fuse with his meter and got o.L.. looks at me like that’s your problem.. lol so I’m pissed, but I grab my meter to show I did the same thing and got a different reading. He changed the “range” and move the decimal over as if reading a whole number it showed ( OL. ) . My meter when changing to ohms, defaults to M OHMS. And then changes depending on what I’m reading. Should I always change the range no matter what I’m checking? Or only for fuses?? Plz help me understand…
