Detailed tutorial on how to use a multimeter for beginners, step by step instructions with examples and demonstrations. In this detailed tutorial I explain what this multimeter is capable of and then I show an example of how one would do all those checks using my furnace as the test subject. I go over checking resistance, voltage, continuity, capacitors, batteries, micro-amps, and more.

🧩 Here is a hint for the puzzle at the end of the video:
That bottom row is tricky.. Something looks different about that boy. Also, I seem to recall that multiplication needs to be done before addition.
❌ Common incorrect answers: 10,12,14,15,23,30,40,48, or 60
If you think you have the right answer or want to give up, the solution is in the bottom of the description.

Brilliant! The instructions that came with my meter were not very clear in parts, but you have made everything clear for me. Very glad I found this video. Living in England of course the voltage I have to contend with is 240,which is not to be fooled with at any time. Thanks for your guidance. Doing any electrical work is potentially dangerous, and should be emphasised all the time, that if you have any doubts about what you are doing, leave it alone, and call a professional!

Thanks for the instruction on how to use the meter for boiler testing. I have been doing my own boiler repair with the help of my brother-in-law who is 250 miles away by phone. After watching your instruction on how to test the different functions of the boiler with your meter I now have a better understanding of what my brother-in-law is talking about. I also understand how to use my clamp meter which is a Klein CL 390. Thanks for the help.

I needed a new meter for performing maintenance around the house because my old one died. I looked at lots of meters but based on your videos I decided to buy the UEI DL389B TRMS Dual Display Clamp Meter It is still in transit to me so I decided to watch this video again and I am even more happy that I got this meter. It is not the Pro + model but since I am only using it around the house so I am OK with that. Until I become fully comfortable with all the features of this new meter I will likely be watching this video again when the meter arrives at the house. I watch all your videos and am grateful you explain them so well. Thanks for another great video!

I finally went to this video again to learn how to use my meter better. I read the instructions but forgot you made this video so I am back again many months later. Wow you did a great job explaining everything and I learned how to correctly use my meter. As I already said I do not use it often but when I do I want to know what I am doing so thanks! I have one question though: When you were testing the capacitors shouldn't you have advised to drain the capacitor by crossing the two terminals with a screwdriver before testing? Keep the videos coming! I watch them all.

Funny, I’ve had the UEI G-2 PRO:DL379 for about 10 years, same as yours really, I see no difference at all, I’ve never known how to really use it, I’ve had life long electricians get pissed at me because my meter was better than theirs, I’m just a lowly heat guy lol, I’m glad you made this video with this meter, I could’ve been checking flame rods the easy way all his time, and I didn’t know about the voltage tester either. The max/min button is going to be great to use, 38 years in the heating and plumbing trade, I’m just starting to do AC, you’re helping a lot, for me to learn, I have to understand the Why first, then it all comes easy because I know how it works, the rest is simple, your videos are helping me a lot. Thanks Jay, you’re doing a great job. 🇮🇹😎🇮🇹

Trained by the Air Force in Basic Electronics tech school Keesler AFB right after Basic Training. Those were 8 hour days with block exams every week. Pass the exam with an 80 and move on to the next block or don't and repeat the week of training with the class coming up behind you. This was called getting washed back and was an ever looming threat as these skilled job slots were competitive. Wash back twice and you lost your guaranteed tech job and got put in a new specialty. Maybe fuels, security or as a cook. You're a good teacher. Hope you'll do more on actual component testing. Maybe spend some time using a white board to explain troubleshooting with a schematic. Now, explaining what an Ohm and a Farad and what Capacitance is, now that's an idea.

Great video! Keep them coming. I got my career diploma in HVACR and by far you make more sense than the school that I learned from did. Thank you much. As for the riddle, It took me a little bit to notice his little shoes and flowers. HAHA!

Diode feature: I use to check diodes. When connected to the diode it will display the voltage required to make the diode conduct. This can be from 0.5 up to 2 volts depending on the type of diode. Hook up backwards and make sure you do not get a reading. This can also be used to check Bijunction transistors.

Excellent video and explanation. I just bought a different clamp meter, the Klein CL900, but the same principles apply, so very useful video. BTW, the resistance symbol for ohms (the upside down horseshoe) is actually the Greek symbol Omega. The same symbol appears on Omega wristwatches.

This was a excellent video you did a great job . I will throw this in with I’m sure you already know, when you’re checking any capacitor first thing you want to warn the customer that it could be charged ,and if you touch the terminals could kill you.

The answer to the puzzle is 30! The video helped me understand the meter. I am a homeowner and have some electrical issues. My light bulbs in the kitchen keeps going out. These are LED which should last some 13 years. It does not happen in any other area in the house. Also each time the HVAC come on, the lights dim.

Excellent presentation-- brisk, clear, well-organized and thorough. Camera angles were usually good, and audio consistent and easy to hear. Naturally, we subscribed.
