You can cut Songtrust and their 15% ridiculous fee out by registering with BMI - Performance Royalties/Sync Royalties Harry Fox - Mechanical Royalties Soundexchange (International PROs and MROs)

I would stick with Songtrust, enough said. The among of work they do for you is unbelievable. Not to mention, most of the personnel at Songtrust are into music themselves. It's what they do. 15% commission is a joke considering the amount of work they do for you. Reality-nothing is free. If it is, you will probably have more problems then its worth. Hope Songtrust doesn't see that.

I'm thinking of joining Songtrust, but I need to know if they'll flag someone who uses my song on KZbin and disables their monetization. Will they do that or will they let people use my songs in their videos and collect sync royalties on the back end, while also letting KZbin creators monetize their videos? I just want to be able to collect sync royalties without taking away the ability for people to monetize their videos. Is this possible through Songtrust?

Jay what should I do? I have a song that is currently being looked over by the copyright office in the U.S. I am starting brand new, and don’t have any of the services(tunecore, distrokid, CD baby etc.). I have an ASCAP registration as an artist, and also registered with a different name as a publisher on ASCAP. When I register songs on ASCAP I have been listing them as 50% Artist, 50% Publisher. I'm also on distrokid and listing that I own 100% of the rights. Additionally I'm also on Songtrust and just recently updated most of the songs. I've been on distrokid and songtrust over 6 months and not seeing any royalties. Can you clarify how to sort this out? Many, many thanks for your videos T. Jay

Thank you good sir for the breakdown. One question, since SongTrust handles KZbin content ID, is there any point to sign up for Distrokid's KZbin collection service for like an extra $15/year? I'm heavily considering switching my distributor to Distrokid from CD Baby, but not too thrilled about the extra costs for what I already get for free from CD Baby aka KZbin collection and Shazam recognition.

CD Baby Pro did nothing to help me chase down royalties from an Australian tour, and couldn't even answer my questions about how it worked. When I saw on my SOCAN (Canadian PRO) that they were collecting 50% of my publishing but couldn't answer my questions or help, I ended my contract with them. So, I will try someone else now (looking into Distrokid, etc..).... just a bit of first hand experience.

Awesome video thanks for helping me out . Actually i have a question Does songtrust any option where you can disable youtube content id without giving up all your publishing royalties? You know that would be helpful in cases where we want to promote our music on big youtube channels like proximity etc without causing problems to people that running those channels because they have as a rule in order to promote you to not cause them issues with the content id, meaning they can run ads on your videos. im ok with that but i would appreciate if you know if this option is available in order to disable it! I have a pretty lengthy question lol. So I initially started using cd baby pro as an artist maybe 5 years ago. Now I am embarking into a career in making beats/instrumentals to specifically pitch to music libraries that help you get your instrumentals placed on TV and film. Would songtrust be a good alternative to me creating my own music publishing company for this particular entity (producing specifically for TV and film) or is songtrust more for artist releasing songs to the public to download or stream?

Songtrust gives you the option to use KZbin Content ID through them...its not a required feature to use. Pick what works for you

They really don't do uploads. Its more like a matching system. When you enter the info of the song they will ask you to match the recording in the database (usually from spotify). Then you select that song to match the info with the recording. Quality doesn't seem to be a factor.

Songtrust has changed their rates so idk. SoundExchange is always free. BMI can collect from TV. Audiam does content ID without upfront fees. I don't remember their percentage.
