This was a quick great overview of what to do. I sending everyone blessings with their music endeavors. Two things I highly suggest, consulting with an accountant (free. If you have to pay it's the wrong way! LOL) and consider a smaller admin publishing mainly because they have the time to really do the admin work needed. Great video! Apréciate it, only thing i add is 1. Register name with state 2. EIN and 3.P.R.O sign up. For that part that is the best order because if your company name is not available and you’ve already created an ein or a register pro you will have to change the whole name and that is a headache.

Great vid. However, personally, I would recommend getting your company squared away with the State & Feds first. If you set it up with, say, your PRO and then go to the State requirement, the name may not be available. Of course, a creative name probably would go through, but, let's face it, some of us are more creative than others. Just a thought.

Pub companies advance you and collect that money back. I will always advocate against not owning your publishing. You don’t have to create a NEW business. Register as a publisher with your PRO and the deal is done. Connect it to your business bank account and you’re good.

Hey T Jay and all of you, At first, I want to say, good job. I like your videos. They really help me out. I am going to release some songs I wrote and produced in the 90's/2000. I have the master of the tracks and I never released those URBAN tracks. I live in Europe but I am busy by creating my own record label and publishing in the US, to help other talented artists. A few days ago I signed with Songtrust for the publishing. So if I get it right, I don't have to become my own publisher anymore. I was wondering how it works for me as a foreigner that lives in Europe by obtaining an EIN. I think I have to use the SS-4 form. I want to work completely in the US. Can you tell me what I can do have my own record and publishing label? In Jan 2020 I will be singed into BMI as a writer. I am now signed in Europe. I recommend just keep your current LLC, register with BMI (as a writer and publisher), and tell BMI to cut the check to your LLC via direct deposit

If you have a TIN/EIN or social security number. Are your parents here or are you new to the US? If you are brand new to the US, I believe you need one of those numbers before you can sign up officially.
