I feel indirectly famous that Fr. Pine responded to my question at 38:00 - I just tuned in in that moment and posted my question about 'The Benedict Option' (I'm reading it currently), when Fr. saw it and responded!

Thank you for your brilliant presentation. I listen to many Thomistic Institute podcast. When you recommend reading the Summa it is not a weekend read. My edition has 3028 pages. Yes folks it is worth plunging into. Page 1153 and counting. It causes me to keep my mouth closed if I can not defend a statement. These OPs are smart.

Introduction 00:00:00 A Thomistic approach to work 00:01:19 When it comes to natural law, how exactly do you go about knowing the ends of any particular act? 00:12:38 Even if Vulcans do not have existence, it seems that they do have an essence and that they are rational animals. If so, can we really say that humans are properly defined as “rational animals”? 00:15:57 What about miracles in Protestant churches? How do I respond to someone who says Catholicism is not the fullness of truth because miracles happen outside the Church? 00:18:31 Is there Biblical proof that Jesus died on a Friday? 00:19:22 I am starting to read Aquinas, any tips? 00:20:21 Is capital punishment intrinsically evil? If not, why? 00:21:32 How do I know what priests I can trust when I don't know a lot about the faith? 00:26:30 I was just wondering if you could speak briefly on scrupulosity, how it can be avoided, and how to pursue prudence and righteousness without crossing into scrupulosity? 00:28:06 Can you explain The state of Hell versus Hell being a place? Is it both? Is it just one or the other? 00:32:45 How do I deal with an atheist professor who constantly throws jabs at Christianity? Is this a situation where I am always to defend my faith and dispute? 00:35:27 What do you think about the Benedict option in this increasingly confusing age? 00:38:03 In complying with keeping holy the Lord's day, where do we draw the line when it comes to participating in activities that force others to work on Sunday? (Going out to eat/getting takeout) 00:42:38 What is your opinion on the traditional latin rite mass? If there is a church 5 miles away that did english mass, and a church 50 miles away that did Latin mass, where would you go? 00:44:25 Do acts such as Pope Francis praying inside a mosque or the Assisi Prayer Meeting constitute apostasy? 00:48:38 I’m converting to Catholicism. How should I handle the push back I am going to get from my family? 00:50:30 How can I discern the religious life and then married life at the same time? 00:53:37 Is it valid to say that Christ's sacrifice is superabundant also because, being Eternal, He is Eternally being Sacrificed in that One Sacrifice and suffering for us? 00:57:39 How can a Simple God have contingent knowledge? it seems God could potentially know you are a Dominican or an NBA player. but He actually knows one is true. 00:59:10

This is the second time today that I've heard the message that if you find yourself continuously drawn to and thinking about religious life, there might be something to it. If I don't get into med school, I have a lot of discerning ahead of me.
@kristinacatherine51214 жыл бұрын
Maybe even if you do. I know an awesome pastor who used to be an up and coming young surgeon. And I saw a nun tell her story of telling God that if she was called to religious life to not let her fall in love with someone. She did fall in love and still discerned religious life, in fact the fact that both happened made the discernment more clear for her, in a way. Wishing you the best in your discernment!
@me21436587094 жыл бұрын
@@kristinacatherine5121 I'm really hoping that it's not in the cards that I spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on med school to walk away from all of that. But I don't know, I certainly think about religious life more than the average person.

@8:50 - "Run Hide Fight" is an amazing movie made by a "former Catholic" who recently started looking at the Bible again. Everyone pray for Kyle Rankin! Also, Sara Bareilles was raised Catholic. Maybe the problem is that practicing Carholics are blinded by something like scrupulosity, or are only "making art" to prove a point, not to actually do something well? TBH, Idont know if I even know of any art by modern Catholics, other than Matt Maher

I think that Father you are a little immature about your notion of marriage and religious life. Marriage is a vocation and there is discernment prior to marrying someone. Especially now this particular state in life needs to be taken a little more seriously. You also neglected that there are single people who never get married or enter priesthood or religious life.
