When in need of a striking interment almost any thing will work in my shop. I use carpenter hammers all the time. The only time I use a ball peen hammer is when peening a rivet. The claws sometimes work better than a screwdriver or pry bar to remove covers or plates. Don’t get so sensitive about the comments. You are doing great.

I think I would have done the keys first. Beating around on that loose axle you could chip a gear tooth inside. Probably ok but you never know. Careful with that torch too...
