I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzbin.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

Have both types, the original is still used for my tools, however, I believe you get more than a 20% increase in function by going with the Ken Onion Edition for knives. Save you nickels and dimes and get the KO, it's a really great system. I would also say that often too many passes are used on these tools. I like to run the motor fairly slow and start with 5 passes, 4, 3, 2, 1 then check the blade. Depending on the steel, whether you are changing the angle, and other factors you may be pleasantly surprised at how quickly these get you an edge.

Learnt about several features on my sharpener that I was unaware of until viewing this video. One can use readily available o-rings when the rubber ring on the drive wheel goes kaput. I find it sharpens my knives very well. My opinion of the onion is overall it's a very good sharpener for the money.

I bought one and love it. I also have stones, etc. Like you said, take time to learn to use it, use the slow motor speed, and learn to only bring the tip halfway across the belt. Great time saver. I still use my stones, as it is a bit fun to take some time and let my craftsmanship show, but this is a quality product. All the naysayers are simply afraid of a belt. Each has it's pro's and con's. I love this product, and it is very quick to put a great edge on a blade quickly. Great video by the way. What type of camera lens do you use? Great video quality!

Loved the video & TY for posting it. Ironically I saw these on Ebay today looking at knives, sharpeners etc. I was sceptical about a belt sander style & still am in one regard. The rotation on the belt & burrs. Most of the draws through the sharpener were from the side the belt was rotating up, towards the edge. To me that would eliminate burrs. What about drawing it through the other or back side? Wouldn't the rotation of the belt going down off the cutting edge create a burr?

Don't know why you have so many 👎 negatives because I found your vid very helpful. You answered a number of questions I had and couldn't directly find the answers to. Do I need tool sharpener attachment, overheating, does KO have preset angles, belt changing, belt adaptation and several others. I'm very excited about getting ours. Bought the Leather belt also and that sucker should get a TRUE Razors edge on everything I do. Thanks again and May Lord Jesus bless you.

There's a "blade grinding attachment" now for western style traditional edges. No spark, no heat keeps the temper, and if you're not stupid aggressive with it, this tool works. For those who say, "just for beginners" when a knife is made by a professional like Randall made Knives in FL. Do yoo think they sit down and manually grind your edge on your trophy grail knife?? With bench stines?? NO. They use something like a Grizzly Belt sharpening system. You can follow after that and use any stone, diamond or whatever suits your knife steel. As long as you keep the blade cool, belts work great.

Twang & Bang, Thank you for all your videos. The problem I am having is the left side of the blade (sharpening on the right side of the Work Sharp) since the right side of the sharpener "sucks" the blade down with the belt just a little bit, I have steeper (wider) edge on the left side. Because of this, I cannot get a razor sharp edge and I have to try and make a "wider" edge on the right side of the blade by hand.. Very frustrating

A sharp knife is safer than a dull one. A sharp knife will cut straight clean cuts, a dull blade will tear and cause uneven wounds that don't heal as quickly. With that said, keeps your knives and hatchets sharp! Thanks for the video!

heystarfish100 It's all about what your goal is for sharpening. You can still get a mirror polish if you spend more time on the fine belts and buy a leather strop belt or simply strop on a regular strop. I have one and as a knife maker its ok but im not too into it. It gets it sharp but not that sharp. One problem i had is most of my knives are 3/16 thick and they don’t fit in the guide well. I personally hate the convex edge because of the looks and the way it cuts. I use a lanske system now and the edges look perfect and professional and they are stupid sharp when you go to a 2000 grit stone and a leather strop. Yes it takes longer but I feel like my blades look more finished and professional when i have a perfect mirror polish edge the whole way. I still use it but just to rough in the edge first so I don’t need to grind with the stones for so long

All knife manufacturers use machine sharpening like belt sharpeners for the factory edge. If that was bad for the tempering, the damage would already be done by the factory. I'm buying this one I think.
