For what it’s worth: I find it helpful to place a hand mirror on the table oriented so that I can see the bottom of the blade. I do this for a more precise idea of where the abrasive is in relation to the blade tip and the knife handle. I use the mirror when I feel that it’s needed to help me to not round off my blade tip and/or not scratch my handle. So I really don’t need the mirror for every knife that I sharpen. This procedure also helps me be more precise when sharpening tanto style blades.

My son just surprised me with one of these delivered to me today, I read the instruction sheet and watched a couple videos and got to work on my Kizer lock blade. It's a bit of a learning curve figuring out the best technique that fits you but once you use it for a bit you start to get a feel for how it works the best. Can't wait to get to work on some kitchen knives we have. We just moved so they're out in the garage in a box somewhere, gotta do my Sherlock Holmes impression and go find them.

Got one of these for Christmas (by request) and immediately attacked my parents’ kitchen knives. Mom was amazed at the renewed performance in her cutlery. Been using it since then on all my EDC rotation knives, and it’s great. I’ve sharpened an utterly destroyed edge on an S90V knife and reprofiled a Rex45 knife and it just takes a little patience... but super simple. I’m convinced that this system and a decent strop are that all 99% of knife users will ever really need. Thanks for making a great product at a great value!

My best recipe so far has been (for a complete sharpening/ profile) 320 Grit - back and forth several times on both sides 600 Grit- I lightly nock the burr off from the 320 Back and forth a few times on both sides Then I start only sharpening on the downward stroke in one direction a few times on both sides Ceramic - Apply a little water on the ceramic and I go downward stroke only several times on both sides Then I finish with a strop with white compound and then green compound strop and its pretty dang close to a mirror edge I found that the up and down sharpening stroke side to side puts V marks on your edge and that makes the edge look a bit messy but if you want a nice looking edge to do half the up and down stroke and then finish with just the down stroke and it seems to clean it up a bit. Add another 3 sided piece with a 1200 grit plate, and two leather strop strips that you can add compound too and this would be my dream kit.

I love mine. Great tool. It is important to try to use the entire stone/ceramic when sharpening. Kyle used very short strokes in the demo and this can lead to uneven wear on the sharpener. Long even strokes makes the process quicker too.

Good stuff here. I'll be using some of these tips. In particular I had wondered about using water or oil & they covered that nicely, thank you. I got my Precision Adjust Sharpener about 3 weeks ago & while I haven't used it a lot, I have done a few knives with it. A few paring knives, a couple of larger kitchen knives, it put a good edge on them pretty quickly. I think that the Precision Adjust Sharpener is going to be my go-to tool for most of my knives, with my Work Sharp Guided Sharpening System for the rest. I have one fillet knife that's been horrible to sharpen (with any tool). It has a really thin blade, both in spine thickness & measured from spine to edge. So the last 1/3 to the tip gets whippy, it flexes a lot & is the hardest part to get an edge on. I think with this tool the answer is to do the 1st 2/3 of the blade, then re-clamp it farther out to it won't flex so much. Problem with that is that the last 1/3 of the blades is really narrow from spine to edge, not much room to clamp onto & have the stone clear the clamp. Not the fault of the tool, just the reality of that blade. I'll have to try it & see how it works.

I have been mulling and overthinking a sharpening system for a few days now. I have used traditional stones for years: but I have a larger collection of carry and sporting knives, as well as our first really nice set of kitchen knives. I just don't have the time to maintain them to the edge I want with stones. I was originally going to get the Ken Onion belt sharpener, but I don't always like to have the drone of a power tool. That's part of the reason I still use hand planes and chisels. Now I'm down to this system or the Benchtop Angle Set. I'm leaning more toward this.
@delphicdescant3 жыл бұрын
I'm looking forward to finding a place in my budget for this. Might have to wait for a while, though. I hope these don't dwindle in availability in the meantime. It looks like a great system. I really like that the angle adjustment is continuous rather than just some set holes punched in a plate.

I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm kzbin.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

informative video, thank you, do you have a resource that discusses pros and cons of different blade angles. As well how can you tell what angle your blade is ground at curranty. Thanks for the tips now i just need more tips for angle. I can get any knife sharp enough to cut you from the reflection but i learned the hard way that shallower angles arent good for an edc knife because the edge tends to roll over when you start using it.

Hi guys. Looks like a great bit of kit. My question is... does the width of the blade affect the anxiety of the grind? Eg a large kitchen knife vs a small pocket knife. The edge of the pocket knife will be nearer the pivot causing the angle to be greater? What do you think? Thanks. Phil. Edit - just found the answer on Q&A video!

I find that if I’m doing a really long blade (think kitchen knife), and it’s time to flip the blade, l’ll just slide the base toward the end of the table so the knife can clear the table. Then I’ll flip it and slide the base back away from me again. Only takes a sec to do.
