In this video I show you a new leather belt stropping kit from: amzn.to/42nsWW4
Updated opinion 7/2/24:
I do not recommend this belt. It ended up breaking about 2 weeks after use. I have since found a faster and more efficient way to remove burrs on the Ken Onion system. I plan to update this review with a link to the new process and products when I have the video up.

The after market stropping belts should be conditioned before first use. Add a little Vaseline to the belt, run the belt for a minute, wipe it dry then add compound.

Hello from the Great North of Canada! I love your videos and i am also a member! I bought Kan Onion Edition and the grind also 6 mounth ago! I had exacly the same problem as you with there compouds! But i found while surching on the net that there is a easy way to help with a hard compoud that doen not want to apply! You take a liter or a candle and make 3 4 passe over the flame and go right away on the bellt! the heat made the compoud soft and it worked for me!! Thanks again and continue you nice work! God Bless from the North! Frank!

I have ordered. When I receive I will first use Herold - Solingen Yellow Leather Treatment Strop Paste on it first, then apply Herold - Solingen Green Stropping Paste. On additional belt ordered I will also use Herold - Solingen Yellow Leather Treatment Strop Paste on it first then apply Herold - Solingen Red Stropping Paste.

I've been using these leather belts for several years and they give me great results. I usually use one with 1 micron diamond compound and another one with Tormek PA-70 compound. These will both work much better than the crappy white and green compounds that come with the belts.
@SharperByMichael
@SharperByMichael Жыл бұрын
😎 I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us! I have Tormek compound… Would you say use that over what I’m using in the video? (Harbor Freight Polish) Yeah, I didn’t want to discredit those compounds until someone else who’s tried them could come along and either tell me I’m doing it wrong or that they suck. Again, thanks for the info! ✊

@@SharperByMichael I can't say I've tried the Harbor Freight stuff, I'm afraid. I have used Autosol and that also works well.

Polishing compounds are pretty much the same: wax and the abrasives. Iron oxide, aluminum, and chromium are typical. Industrial diamonds are inexpensive and longer lasting, they don't gum up the strop.

Those old style compounds are mostly wax. They gum up the strop over time. That's why I'm going with diamond emulsion.

I just bought the Ken onion worksharp with belt grind attachment and ordered the new stropping belts and you said you did hundreds of knives on that one belt so was you able to get real good edges on the super steels and did the stepping belts put a mirrored edge on them ?

How long will one of these sharpeners last if used on a daily basis?
@SharperByMichael
@SharperByMichael 8 ай бұрын
I’ve had a single last 6mo+ (probably failed due to me misusing it lol) and there’s many reports of people getting years out of them. I discuss longevity of the systems, belts etc in my done for you service but essentially you’re only buying the Ken Onion as replacements if you have a failure. The blade grinder attachment will typically never need relaxing unless there is damage done to it due to unexpected events.

Doesn’t the compound go on the soft side of the leather? The softer flesh side will hold compound.
