Flipping heck George auto steer for hedge cutting come on....... I used to hedge cut with a John deer 2140 with a Mc Connel hedge cutter and it was down to the skill of the driver to cut the hedge, it was very satisfying seeing a good job done. And the speed your going to fast it's all rush rush rush these days. I'm going to be honest if a driver need auto steer they are not a professional skilled drivers anymore. Last of all why do you need that horse power there is no need for a tractor over 80 odd horse power,,,,,,, no skill needed these days anyone can do it, press the button indeed 🙄🙄
@GeorgeSaunders6 ай бұрын
Well I could just use a pair of garden shears, I could then say I'm super skilled because I don't even need a tractor to cut a hedge. Then I'll be better than anyone else! Speed? Well I don't tend to go slow when I'm on a part of the hedge that is thin. Also as I stated towards the end of the video I had routine jobs to do with the cows so couldn't bugger about taking 3 hours to cut a hedge that could be done in an hour. Last of all, the small tractors on the farm are on the feeder wagon and straw chopper, so shall I take one of those tractors off of there implements that are used twice a day to put on the hedge cutter? Or shall I use one of the tractors that isn't being used on anything? Hopefully that covers most of your issues.

I’ve a customer that has a McConnell hedge cutter on the rear of a 4220 fastrac, yes it’s a beast of a machine but he can go almost anywhere without fear of getting stuck or cutting up the ground as much as a tractor.

I’ve love to get an old 35 X and completely kit it out with auto steer, led lights, heated seat, Bluetooth… the works. For no other reason than just to be odd. I’m surprised the people that sell auto steer don’t have demo models like that, think of the attention they would get.

Fun job for GPs that isn’t typical, Feed Alleys. Set up Autosteer on the Feedwagons in Open Air Feedlots. Drop Pins with the Pen Numbers and Bunker Ends so the rations are right and reduce spillage. Keeps the paint fresh when training new wagon runners. Don’t know if that will work in your closed barns though, I know Dairy typically automate as you noted in the video. Great work sir!

On our neighbours farm in Devon back in the 80's, the hedge trimmer controls were hydraulic valves in the cab, one of the old chaps lost his hand by a hydraulic pipe splitting, the high pressure oil penetrated his skin and his hand went nasty, had to be cut off.

I have used it for fencing. Putting up a new fence where there wasn't one previously. You can get a perfectly straight line as long as your handy on the post knocker. Got laughed at for using it for that but it does work without a doubt

I believe any assistance is beneficial, I use the Wixey WR300BT Smart Digital Angle Gauge inclinometer - Bluetooth - with wixey talk app ,on our tractor hedge cutter , basically find a secure spot on the head of the cutter , to locate it ,I put mine in a waterproof container, and used strong Valcro tape ,then down load the wixey app on your phone ect , set the hedge cutter head level using a standard level ,and this can talk the angle to you ,I have it so it comes through the stereo in the tractor, that way you don’t need to look at anything, just listen, some may say what do you need that for ,but tbh you are never sure of the true angle the the hedge cutter head is at ,believe me I’ve been doing hedge cutting for quite some time, and since using this simple Bluetooth digital talking level ,my hedges are super flat and the sides are the same Especially when yourself likes gadgets 👍

Nice Work George, For all those anti- tech people out there for the farming changing, They are so nasty about it? But without the tech changes they would not have the modern system where they can get their food at a lower cost or have the freedoms of choice without it. Your 100% right, about the needs of the tech in the right places. If those people don't like change they should go live on a island away from modern shops and tech and change then they can be away from all that stuff which gives them their food and services they take for granted now! Go back to living without electricity , cleaned water from a tap, plenty of foods , etc. They soon see that they can't cope without tech and services which let them live well. Plus they have to remember that the tech and changes will happen naturally no matter what they think or moan about, progress happens no matter what? Either they except it or as said go back to basics and live away on a non tech lead island without all those lovely comforts they now enjoy! As for robotics taking away jobs in farming, it has to do it as the population of the world increases and the amount of food needed most go up and the amount of people whom wish to do hard farming work is now going down, we have to get robots to take those un-filled farming jobs not filled by people whom would prefer to have a better less hard job than the farming ones. Most crops and salads are now grown in huge glasshouses by a computer controlled hydroponics system with some robots picking and packing so your lovely veg's and salads are available year round and kept lower costing too. even some high rise new buildings are now growing veg's and such per floor on special growing set ups on the sides of the buildings balconies to lessen the need for trips to the shops and to help with air pollution. The future will change with or without you. even nature changes and evolves with or without any of us inputs. Soon Humanoid robots will take over most of the harder jobs we humans can't do without stress and danger from long hours. Again if you are a person whom wishes to not be involved in progress you know you can go find a nice non modern set up island and live there away from the mod cons you have now! your choice. Good luck with that..

Just as well have a robot do it if you are using auto steer as that’s even easier, what’s wrong with us still just doing the whole job why do we have to have it easy. You aren’t concentrating on the head anyway as you keep having to adjust the auto steer. You are not anymore efficient as you are cutting at the same speed and taken the same amount with the head, it’s just being lazy! I’m sorry George I’m your biggest fan and will always be but I really don’t agree with you on this, but no need to fall out over it.
