As a 16 year old I was a helper for a guy that did basically what you do, and he had the same kind of truck. He was a older guy who built bridges for the Army in Viet Nam. He was like you very talented, and could repair anything. I cant say I made much money, but the guy was a super guy, and could tell jokes all day long. And I love to laugh so we were a good team. He would start out to fix some little old lady's A/C and end up fixing her washer, a leaking sink, ect, ect. The customer would ask me if I thought Gary would fix the sink for her. I would say Lady, Gary will fix anything you need fixing, all you have to do is ask. He helped me fix a broken heart, he could fix anything. I learned alot from him, which helped me the rest of my life.

I use a 1985 1 ton rated 15 passenger Van with seats removed. I am a Handyman and do most everything. The Van is full of stuff. I just recently shoved a 2"X4"X16' through the windshield. I envy your walk-in van. If I were younger, that would be my choice. I am 80 yrs old, it's probably time to retire the van and me as well and sit on the sofa with your pooch. You have a great attitude, no wonder your pooch has lived so long. That's 112 years in human years.

Step vans are not very popular in recent years with tradesmen, but they offer some advantages. They offer the most interior space for the vehicle length, not even the cab over engine tilt cabs can match. I would like to see more step vans used in the trades.

+Mike Malone A friend I work with sometimes had this happen after I told him he was installing it wrong. His extension ladder holder was the failure point. See he is in his 70's and still working. Anyways he bought a new mercedes sprinter van, really nice setup BUT he didn't listen when I said that holder was not going to hold up with the hardware he used and where he mounted it. It lasted about a month and all came crashing down and damaging some of the interior of the vehicle in the process. He called me wanting me to design him a new setup and install it for him so I did all the work and it has been pretty solid not for about 2 years and counting.
