To find out if you will like gate guarding...sit down, then jump up and run outside every 5 minutes. If you like that, you will like gate guarding.

I guess it depends on the gate. My gate really never saw more than 12 to 15 trucks per day usually. 😀

@@hansenontheroad6584 That is amazing! Most gates see 100 or more vehicles in a 12 hour time period. But I see your video is 4 years old. So things must have changed a lot since then.

Nice video! We are a couple, gate guarding in Gonzales where we're stationed in a cow pasture! Very pleasant setting!! Very accurate description of the position and process to get there. I'm an avid reader, so I'm really enjoying it. We will do it again as well.

Great video - extremely concise, detailed, and informative. I’m doing some preliminary research into work camping opportunities. In your experience, what’s the least amount of money you’d work for while on the road? I understand the pay for these types of jobs won’t be great, but $12.50/hr, even a couple of years ago when you made this video, seems approaching unreasonable.

Thank you for watching and the great review. My first year at Adventureland in 2018 we made $8.50 an hour. The winter jobs in the workamping world seem to always pay the most. When speaking to groups about workamping I also said keep your expenses at a minimum because you typically don't make much but for me it was never about the money. I always made enough on the road to continue on my journey.

@@hansenontheroad6584 Thanks for the reply! For my planning, my concern isn’t about continuing the journey - that seems likely enough given my expected costs and potential earning. My concern is planning for when the journey ends. What happens when you’re 70?

@@hansenontheroad6584 I guess I’m more concerned about my finances when it comes to be that time. Thanks for your time and responses, and no hard feelings if my questioning is too personal and you’d rather than respond for any reason. I’m interested in using a nomadic lifestyle in an early retirement. Making up rough numbers here, if I’d need $3M saved for retirement at age 65, I’d only need $1.75M saved at age 55. I would then live cheaply for approximately 10 years (or longer should I choose). I’m now considering what would be needed to hit the road at 45 or 50 instead. At 50, I wouldn’t have the $1.75M at 55 or the $3M at 65. However, if I can supplement a small amount of income for those 5-15 years, then it may be possible to retire early, hit the road, and still be able to be fully retired at age 65. My general question for people who hit the road between ages 40-55 and aren’t exactly wealthy is how have you planned for your retirement? If you’re making, say, less than $40k/year, you’re obviously not contributing to a retirement plan in any meaningful fashion. Did you save the amount needed for full retirement at a certain age prior to hitting the road?

@@mickeypigknuckles I can't speak for anyone else but myself of course. With investments and 401k and social security retirement should be fine. My expenses were so low on the road that saving was still possible. Best of luck

I fail to understand why people thumbs down a video. I seen no reason why you should get a thumbs down. I especially like how you included a spouse to work 12 hours. And you saying that the money was not worth the trouble was hilarious. I see why your a single man. Funny. All in all, I thought this was very informative and really something I never considered until now. Thanks for sharing your experience.
