I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great kzbin.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

Nice work, and a totally cool idea with the bench dogs. But I would screw on a panel of 3/4" ply wood to the hind legs, and a narrower panel of ply to the front legs. Maybe also front-rear both sides. That wobble drives one crazy.
@miked82275 жыл бұрын
Nice, perhaps some scissor braces in the back . Then some short bracing in front from the bottom shelf and down to the base of each leg to eliminate the wobble? But it surely looks like a lifetime structure to me which will only get better with age and use. Really well filmed with several angles for each step of the build ,which made it entertaining and easy to watch.

@dwighthapeman65905 жыл бұрын
Your bench dogs are legendary. A couple of 3/4” x 1-1/2” straps installed diagonally on the rear legs would eliminate the wobble. I would probably use 1/8” steel strap.

Awesome build, much more simple joinery for those of us that want a solid bench upon which to work without the need for a 300+ pound Ruobo. The one change I would make is to through bolt the vise instead of using those relatively small screws. I mostly do finer work but sometimes something requires a lot of persuasion.

Nice video and amazing job. Reading through the comments I'm clearly not alone in being impressed. I can see you set it up so that it can be disassembled with the shorter sides and top being the biggest pieces. I can only guess that the wobble at the end could've been minimized if the longer width pieces were made as incredibly stable as shorter ones you would have no issue. It would be a compromise with not having the nice clamp holders (making those removable) but since the top is setup for side to side planing that may have made the difference. A really clever design and the attention to detail makes me think it's almost too nice to do any work on.

Nicely done... beautiful bench. I'll skip the slight slant on the chop/miter saw and act as if I did not see it... But I will not let the massive tilt/wobble of the bench when you were planing get away. I think an awesome bench of this caliber deserves something more than just super cheap angle brackets. Once again awesome and beautiful work bench.

Very nice! 👌👌 I do a lot of hand planing on my bench that I built. The connection between the top and legs really should be stronger. I noticed that when you were hand planing at the end, it was racking. That would annoy me. Over time that is only going to get worse. Even if you were to have two bolts in each leg into the stretchers of the shelf, that would help minimize the racking. My bench has half laps connecting the bottom shelf to the legs as well as a small tenon on the top of the legs going into a shallow Mortise on the underside of the top. And I wouldn't even consider myself any kind of fine woodworker. Great video though. I really enjoy watching your content. Keep up the great work.

Not just an annoyance, but also wasted effort!
@AwsomeEric1005 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering why the bench has such a wobble on the plaining. Is that because of the L-brackets or maybe the bench could use another crossmember between posts. The bench does look nice though

Great video thanks. I definitely will be making some of those bench dogs as am fed u of knocking wooden dogs u and down in my workbench.
@Maximilian52685 жыл бұрын
I liked everything except the way you attached the top and then only used one lag bolt to secure each bottom brace. It's going to turn into a parallelogram. It already has a ton of movement when you were shaving at the end. One solution would be to stabilize the bottom and it'll eliminate the rocking by adding a 45 brace from corner to corner. It'll take away from the beauty but I'd rather that than for it to collapse or rock. Hopefully that made sense. Hope to see more content man! You've got some good ideas!

Nice design, build and video. I would have installed the bench vise over the top of the table leg so downward force will not create a spring effect by it being cantilevered.
