Workers Join Labour Strike In Lagos, Shut Down Govt. Offices

In Lagos the strike called by the NLC, TUC and other trade unions has taken full effect as government offices are shut. In Alausa, where most state government offices are located, workers are locked out, and business activities grounded.

A state like Anambra state is still paying N25,000 monthly in 2024. It could not afford to pay the N30,000 agreed in 2019. Imagine how much it is owing workers since 2019 that has not been paid. Also, the state has not paid past pensions for many years. Add the new N60,000 wage to it....confused people everywhere

Most people dont understand that the new minimum wage is not about federal government. it is about state's ability to pay the new wage. Some states like Anambra have not paid the old minimum wage of 30,000. It only pays N25,000. How will the state pay 60,000?

Most NLC battles should be focused at the state level. Some states have not paid the minimum wage of 30,000 since 2019. But they are fighting Tinubu. Tinubu will only pay federal workers, and the number of federal workers is small compared to states and local governments....
