We're diving back into Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic as it launches into 1.0, playing in Realistic Mode difficulty, looking to establish a glorious nation in the barren lands of the Desert Biome! In this let's play, we'll showcase gameplay of what, in my opinion, is one of the best modern city builders of all time. Playing in Realistic Mode really ramps up the difficulty and shows the depth of the game - the economic simulation, the complexity of construction, and the number of considerations to take in mind turn this city-building game into so much more - a nation-builder. With the Biomes DLC, we have access to three unique biomes, and our (first of many?) let's play will showcase Desert gameplay, providing tips and tricks on how to start in the desert, and copious examples showing what not to do too, I'm sure.

Carried over from preceding ep. Look at your oil pumpjacks, consolidate all oil trucks to the shortest line, buy more trucks. As there is many ₽ of oil just sitting there.

Only two of three pumpjacks are serviced, and I believe he could buy the trucks from the west needing only the dirt road connection spending some of that $

@@adrikstepanov5307 Yes, only 2 of the 3 are having oil exported. Probably for the time being it would be best to get all 3 trucks on the shortest route (ignore 2 of the pumpjacks), get more trucks in, when that one is saturated move on to the next and so on. As for trucks from the west, the add on "GMC Steel Tilt Cab" would look to be a great choice (faster and bigger capacity than the T 138s).

@@davidchester1612 A storage or a loading station may be worthwhile too, at least for future expansion. But I am not sure how expensive it is to get trains without steel works. And steel works are extremely expensive

I'll recommend you build some College dorms, that way the students will be going back and forth from uni to the dorms, educating them faster. If they're attending uni from their houses, some days they'll go to work instead of studying making it a lot slower

Actually the devs made the garbage trucks pretty efficient. They don't go out and make one small collection, they will go to a number of apartment blocks etc and only when full will go to the waste dump. The issue with hazardous waste is that it must be separately disposed of. Don't mix it with Mixed Waste in the same dump, because then all of the waste becomes hazardous and will need to be expensively separated later. Either have two garbage dumps or sell the hazardous at the customs. Using the larger containers mean you need a suitable truck to collect the large containers. You can visibly see the difference between the two types. You really only need large containers (what we call skips in UK) with skip lorries for industrial workplaces that generate high amounts of waste. So make sure the Tech Office handling waste has a suitable mix of the two trucks.

How is pollution while burning it without purification when dump gets contaminated? I've built incinerator but lack connection for dedicated dump and sending hazmat waste directly into it will contaminate internal storage with dozen tons of pulled mixed waste there all the time.

I got to jump in here and suggest that you click wait until unloaded. When money is tight, I like to review routes and there is a small check box next to the unload button. Example, water truck at water tower, it keeps running back and forth even though the water tower is full.

When you're looking at your clothes exports from one month to another, you usually just change the "start date" but not the "end date". So, of course, the exports seems to be getting lower cause you're comparing last month exports with the last two months exports! Great content like always.

You can dump the water basically anywhere since it doesn't affect anything (at least it worked like this before the update) and you can also just dig a hole deep enough so you can see the ground water and dump sevage there PS: add a fuel station near a customs house

No point digging a hole, it would be a big hole on top of a hill ;) The rivers are there for sewage disposal. TBH I forgot you can extract drinking water from rivers, and that might have been a good starting point in this biome, rather than building a well at an oasis. Only if you are drinking from the river is it a major hazard to dump sewage there. It's not like Cities Skylines where you have to be careful where you dump sewage. Shortest pipe possible, straight down to about where the bridge is, build a sewage disposal and dump raw sewage there, and then forget about what's going in the river. There's no flow of water in the rivers, so no-one down river can be affected either

@@liszarezo3658 Well they were doing it in the river where I live in Northern England too, to be fair. Even when I went to school and was rowing on the river in the early 1980s they said if you fell in and drank the water you had to go to hospital. :)

This game has wayy too complex system and is AWFUL at explaining several of them + People like failure more than success for interteinment. So most "gamers" fumble arlund on porpuse for interteinment. Making its si the average "gamers" barelly seems to pass 100 iq. Is part of the business. Party in contrast knows the in and outs.... To an extent. He clearly struggle with some systems, thos base on my research is more an aspect of the game than player influence. Making the task daunting, SPECIALLY so on realistic, as the flaws become a critical refraction of how the game favor systems and abandoned others. His problem with construction being not finish is just one of the manny.

You mean in real life practice? In those cases is more about the boreocracy and corruption. Buroeocracy is needed to hasve so many complex systems work eficiently. Corruption is a human factor affecting everything Human participate on, sometime help, as allow pass redundancies or failure in systems as they arent flexible enough, but at high level become a parasite that try to supplants its host. Causing the ever repiting "cycles" historians talk about. If it was about system in games: Then is dependant on how the product was made, what factor it take into account and which it didnt. Dwarf fortress is the most clear example. Dwarf fortress is a live simulator created by 2 brother who have to study systems on their own, independantly from companies and mainstream ideas. So it works as an outliers and an excellent case of study. The mayor example is when they code the "economy" Until then the economy is paeticulary similar to this game, yet in a more medieval aproach. Citicens and part of the kingdome, and thus the kigndome (player) must keep them happy and alive. There is coin in the game but that is for trade mostly. So, when the "economy" was added, they find a very problematic tendency. The more privatise and capitalistic it was the more this event will happen: -Infaltion of property, to the point modt citizens where homeles. -Massive inflation -Massive hunger and thirth because everything cost so much. Basicly a centralization of power toward "heroic" and "elite" individual. Including that babyes could manage their parents funds, basicly inheritance. Making rich babyes rich by default and poor babyes even poorer by default. To all this the player come up with several alternatives. Begining with the "lever" jobs. Basicly citizens where task to pulling a lever all day to gain a LIVING Salary. With the increase in inflation this ideas was streamline to what players call. "Casinos" Literall groups of citizens just pulling useless liver all day, imitating a casino with slots machines. And all this withouth the ssytem of corruption they have still to make. So crime wasnt really an issue and the systems workd as intended.

I've recently started a realistic mode game and it got me thinking: Crops are extremelly cheap to import and you're only using it for fabric A good investment, but I didn't run the numbers so well yet, would be to invest in food production and alcohol production In my game in 1961 food and alcohol are selling for 400 something. They need more workers each, but the amount of profits you'd get against the amount you get from bricks is way better plus you'd stop importing it for 400-ish each ton

@@FelpudoChannel Yes, those are all viable alternatives to sell to make money. But he does need to make bricks to use in his own construction. Especially as panel houses won't be available for sometime, because of the research requirements. Having a rail line to bring crops from the border might be a good idea, and then take back clothes, food and alcohol, maybe even fabric as you can easily make more fabric than the clothes factory consumes. And none of this is going to be easy to do with your own farms. But I'm fascinated to find out what is possible with fields and woods in the desert.

@@cannaewargaming4815 Oh, I've meant with that probably the cost of importing bricks and the price selling them is way lower than exporting alcohol, for instance, for like, 25 workers more but I don't think it's cost-effective to put up the entire production chain with fields and whatnot (250 workers for a bigger field is crazy, even with mechanization...) But I agree that maybe, with the requirements of crops, he'd probably be better off holding up till he has a railine

@@FelpudoChannel You mean importing the coal to make the bricks? Yes, it's more expensive than importing crops. Purely as a money making solution it wasn't the best choice, you are right. But he's going to get rich on exporting oil :)

@@FelpudoChannel There's no workers required to work in fields, gravel or bauxite mines. The game gives you a figure of workers that can work there, but all three don't need any workers. You can run a big modern farm with 20 big fields and not require a single worker. If they turn up in some of your fields because they are in walking distance, then you need to stop them, because they are much more effective in some other industries. Tractors and harvesters in our glorious Socialist Republics are self driving ;)

I think you have so many escapes because people grow up, fail to find a empty house in the city, then migrate to another city - just to find out that there is nothing there and leave the map.

You appear to be having some kind of audio glitch in the game. Every time you click a UI element that plays a sound, it cuts off the ingame music for a frame causing stuttering.

I would dedicate buses to separate lines to each industry bus stop. But you can make adjustments. Tell the bus platform not to allow passengers or students to wait, if you haven't already - you have no bus lines that take pasengers or students anywhere. You have no fine control over type of worker on the bus platform, but you do on the bus line. You can say only let basic educated workers get on the bus. That will ensure the degree educated workers stay in the city for jobs and go to the hospital etc. If you watch your bus platform carefully (you only need to do once, and could do it off camera) then the person on the left has been at the stop the longest, person on the right shortest. Go to the first person , see how long they've been waiting to get on a bus. If it's 45-50 mins you have a problem and probably need more buses, because they give up waiting after one hour. You need to aim generally that everyone who goes to the bus platform gets picked up and taken to a job, so they are contributing to your economy. However, I doubt you have a problem here with workers as your unemployment rate is low. And having zero unemployment can also be damaging as your construction offices when they want workers also go to the bus platform. You don't want the construction buses turning up and finding very few workers available. I suspect you already have this OK, and that people leaving the bus platform are passengers who shouldn't be waiting there anyway. If they want to pray, as there is no mosque in the town, they would go to the platform and wait for a bus. You haven't provided that opportunity (yet, and I'm not saying you should), but they don't know that when they leave home, so they will go to the platform then give up waiting after an hour. But they won't go to the platform at all if you tell the folk of the town, this platform is workers only. If instead they get culture from an attraction, then that can satisfy their religious need. Same with students, don't bother to wait at the bus platform every day, there's no buses here that will take you to school or university. Stay in bed and play on your X-box, sorry play a card game, lol. If you have a problem with getting enough degree educated workers to be doctors, then look carefully at the overall numbers (less than 10% degree educated is not good, 15% or more is where you need to be). Given your lack of money you probably can't recruit experts from the Soviet Union as further immigrants, yet. But you can be in Catch-22, not enough degree educated workers to be professors, means not enough students being educated to degree level. [And inability to do reasearch] There might be a need to micro-manage the employment of degree educated people you already have. And the first step is to make sure that none of them get on a bus and end up working in the factories. Last two things to check with employment buses. Make sure some workers stay on the bus after the first stop and get off at the next (clothes/fabric). Just follow a bus and watch that 40 say get on, and how many get off at each stop. As well as making sure enough people stay on the bus (if it doesn't have its own line) to go to the clothes/fabrics you need to also confirm no-one stays on the bus after the clothes/fabric. They can make multiple circuits if you have more workers than jobs. They eventually give up after 4 hours of riding round in circles, but all the while they are taking a seat on the bus and when the bus comes back to the platform it cannot load all the seats from people waiting on the platform. But again, I think we would see that in high unemployment. But there are good techniques for matching size and numbers of buses to get the right flow of workers to the factories. To note, it can sometimes become apparent that there's absolutely no good reason to keep sending a full bus of 80 passengers to a factory, when only 4-5 ever get off it. Then you need more factories, or stop building new apartments. And buying micro-buses can be a good choice in some cases. Micro-buses are also a good choice for many construction projects. Again you don't want an 80 seater bus taking all the workers away from the platform to go digging gravel on a road construction site for an hour. You want most of them making fabric/clothes and earning money for your economy.

If he didn't get 100% of time in sports that was probably because there was no worker there when he arrived, or the worker finished his shift before he got 100%. Someone pointed this out in the comments last or previous episode, that this is a danger with workplaces like the football pitches where there is only one person working there. Sports halls, swimming pools etc. have 5 or so workers, so would usually have someone working there 24x7. But are not as cheap as the football. I guess I never much relied on these anyway, as they close down in winter completely. You have them all year round in this biome, but still best not to rely on them totally.

Side note: Your city is on a hill, and your MAIN issue is waste disposal. Create a discharging station fown the hill, the elevation from the top to the bottom will make it easier to construct and having the station close to the border will make it faster and easier to erase it(sell it) Or make a hole far away and dump it there.

The end station benefit is entirely with re-fueling. I doubt they go quicker in overall time round the route, even if they don't slow down to 30 kph to maintain the gaps between themselves. This is because the fastest road they are running on is gravel which limits them to 35 kph. So even freed up from the line spacing (which isn't 100%) doesn't speed them up much. Especially as they could sit for sometime each time round in the end station doing nothing. But during that "downtime" in the end station they refuel.

They waste less workers live idling on endstation than crawling through cities. Certainly worth it. Fuel is nice bonus as they don't have to go off route.

Mud road is 35kph, gravel is 60kph. You can see them change speeds quite a lot whenever they cross between the two

@@houndofculann1793 Sorry, that was a mistake, gravel is 60, mud 35 and he still had considerable mud on the route, though he's now taking steps to address it. Still only part of the journey gets limited to 30 in line spacing, and there's many corners on the route where speed is much lower anyway. I doubt the buses arrive in this case much more often with an end station than with line spacing, except when refueling is needed. The speed improvement would be more noticeable on longer routes on faster roads (asphalt with few corners) than he currently has.

Oh dear. Sometimes the game can have buildings with no footpath connections, and then the people who live there can't go to work, get food, sports etc. So will constantly moan. So I think we now know where the complaints came from in earlier episodes that some people didn't get food! I would have just moved them out to a nice Soviet apartment block, rather than the old Arab house. And knock down their old house.

On the audio. I found that my recording software (OBS) was recording the game audio at a fairly loud volume, even when it was barely audible to me in the game. I only realised when it was still in the recording even when I had "turned it off" in the game. To avoid this I downloaded the virtual audio cable drivers, and set the game to send it's audio to tgis virtual device, which wasn't connected to any real output device, and which I could tell OBS to not record. The alternative might be just to adjust the volume of the video recording, assuming it's recorded separately from your voice audio.

I mix the audio afterwards in Premiere, so I notch the background music down significantly there - perhaps not significantly enough (until now, hopefully). That's been a fairly consistent way for me to avoid OBS-related audio surprises. I've found the levels to be alright all along, but that's just one man's opinion.

@@PartyElite Cool, I used Shotcut cos it's free, lol, and couldn't figure out how to separately change the audio level of the music and voice when they were recorded together. It might just be certain tracks in this game that are loud, there are one or two that certainly reach a crescendo. Or certain people just don't like background music anyway. It was certainly OK for me today, but if you have people where English is not their first language and have to carefully listen to every word, they may find it difficult. To me I think you could record without any background music. You manage to talk (sensibly as well:) ) throughout, without any awkward silences. But it might not be to everyone's taste.

There's not much gameplay of this game I've been following yours since the start of this series One thing i think you could do to improve is that it would be way nicer if you edit out some parts A 1 hour gameplay is good but there's a lot of time thinking and waiting Sometimes i just wanna reach in the screen and push the build button Beside that Thanks for the videos❤

It's a good looking plaza, but the loyalty modifiers from monuments don't stack. The highest loyalty monument that hits a building within its radius will be what's affecting citizens. Build one within range of your industries too.

​@@cannaewargaming4815 Someone (maybe bballjo?) did testing on this a long time ago when the monuments changed to provide loyalty, and loyalty goes up to the 40-50% (difficulty adjusted) limit faster if monuments are in range of all buildings and not just residential. Of course, loyalty still gets there eventually with monuments just covering residential, so *shrugs*.

@@eramhossain9350 You can't build religious buildings, except using a mod or the "cheat" mode. The game auto-generates these for you at the start if you choose to have old cities on the map. But then you are stuck with what it gives you, which is random. Same with the "Arab houses" by the way, generated by the game at the start, there's no option to build any more of them. Though I think I saw someone produced a mod for them in the workshop.

Honestly it might be worth it to just clean the waste water instead of making a pipe that long only to pollute your own water. Also saves on the amount of water you have to generate from wells etc.

I think you need more people, your unemployment seems to be 0% and everytime you build something that needs workers its strait out of your workers in moneymaking cloth factory. Good investment would be asfalt road all the way form oilpumps to border. It might cost but it will pay it self back. Cant wait to see the next episode, good entertainment.

I feel like you hate upgrading roads 😂 you have bypasses and you could upgrade them in bulk not just small piece after piece once in a while. And you are leaving small gaps of mud roads for no reason. Also buy those cisterns or build some tank and loading station for them. On my Ashkekal I added loading station and storage for oil and it improved my earnings massively

For your industries, I think 1 fabric factory output prod can sustain 2 clothing factories, why not micro manage the worker on the fabric factory so you can have more worker on the clothing factory and never run out of fabric at the same time, it will boost your income

Hi PE, something that came up when I was playing this map is that people would start moving from my starting town to the other empty towns until I went around and disabled migration on each other empty city. You might have already done it off stream? But just wanted to give the heads up in case you haven't.

Make short dirt, or outright gravel connections to Qurveroud customs so trucks dont have to wait out one another to park and load/unload as it has 3 slots to do so and now [in video start] they use just one and get delayed needlessly.

would it be possible and/or beneficial to grow some of your own crops either as supplements/redundency/backup for the grocery store or perhaps it could be used to fund the fabric factory. Im assuming you would need green house and thus research but just a thought

@@itstaylor2137 Green house is a mod, there's no vanilla green house or anything other than fields to grow crops in this game. In this biome there is a unique mechanism that prevents them being used anywhere other than in an oasis, and limits production even then due to lack of water. Anything requiring crops on a large scale is going to rely on importing the crops. Still, it's probably cheap enough to import crops to make a decent profit. But it won't stay cheap if you import too much.

whats the point of having roads with sidewalks? do people walk faster on them or is it just for aesthetics so people aren't walking on roads? also surely remember to resume the construction of the old arab house that was destroyed in the fire

As far as I understand, it's far less efficient for people to walk on a road than a sidewalk, assuming the materials are the same. While they can use roads, sidewalks give greater control over where pedestrians go

It would be better to concentrate on upgrading all your roads instead of building so many monuments it's a bit of overkill, and as someone mentioned it would be better to have a large storage tank fed by all the pumpjacks at the oilfields then have a fleet of trucks using a loading station and selling at the border. Don't be afraid of loans to build the industries and economy. Finally how are going to build the metro and why?

Green and red are modern references, used often in data analysis to indicate positive and negative effects. But traditionally in accounting numbers were entered in black or red ink to show profits and losses. Either phrase is OK, but "in the black/red" is the correct phrase.

@@milosevicmihajlo499 I don't think he has used any mods from the workshop. There are war memorials, old tanks, MiG's etc and variety of statues and posters. So you get the variety if you want to look for it. While not affecting loyalty, there's also a good selection of mods that can be used to improve appearances.

If you have Load/Unload box marked with no specific resource to pick up, the truck will end up loading everything... literally, you just said not to do anything stupid and proceeded to do something bancrupting you

A distribution office wouldn't load "anything" unless it is sending a truck to the customs with no specific resource ticked AND somewhere it can unload those resources. It won't pick up electronics for instance and try to deliver them to a clothes factory that will only accept fabric. This is one reason to always limit what a warehouse can accept, if it's for a fabric factory only allow crops and chemicals to be stored there etc. I don't think this is stupid BTW. I think it's not great UI design. The lack of any ticks should be flagged as an error. If you really don't care what a truck will load at a location, then you should have to tick everything, rather than tick nothing.

Hey at last i reach today uptdate! So, i made some research turns out the game is AWFULL at worker managment and kinda skip the whole system for a "whatever is available" kind of thing. Not to mention having 30% being LITERAL Infants (consume goods, do not work) create a HUGE Supply and infrastructure ISSUE If this game Had aptitudes like Frost punk has this will trully be the BEST and most COMPLETE city builder. Unfortunate that reslirces and reality ar elimited. So basicly the BEST( and with that i mean the Only rational way to manage this ) is like Pharao, where you NEED houses close to every job and think on small nodes or "districts" where each District is solelly self suficiant and independant of one another. Otherwise your ONLY other choice is run SEVERAL small busses at ALL times for worker to fill vacants EVERYWHERE not close to a house. Also shifts are a MESS. So you have 2 options to continue: -Keep as you have go, just have more Small busses going to and fro workplaces and PRY that is enough. Why small busses? Because you need FAST filling of even a couple of workers, by how the gamee works having a HUGE wave of workers move slowly just Waste time in travel and wait. -Do a total manual selection Doing this Option NOW if your best bet as the city is small. Basicly: -Grave pen and paper. -Check EVERY worlplace and organize them by Priority of how INDISPENSABLE they are. Then check how much people you have around to fill them. That wau you would know if you have ENOUGH workers to even function Once this is done, AND if you have enough surplus of workers is better assign them by office. Like 15 extra workers? Meaning ONLY 2 Offices are functional (you can push this my moving workers around but will cause problem in the previous step, that is why Importans is first) So now what you do is asign the amount extra at specific station And asign the offices at Specific Constructions, Example (Housing, Roads, infrastructure, etc) this way you know WHICH workplace is doing what and can send worker where they are needed OR call for external workers. If that is too daunting, then at least organize the offices. How? -make a list of constructions. -asign 1 office per workplace, 2-3 if its something big like a factory or department complex -Once you run out of offices CANCEL all other constructions. And ONLY once an office finish a construction you assign it the next one. This will not only stop the player from over expending and over building without having the resources to do so. AND will make so the player is aware of each construction and progress Which is quite funny concidering work force logistic are the Forefront of Communist idology but in the communist game was ignore in favor or deep supply logistics. Wonder if there are any mods to help with this? Anyways. Where you follow this advise or dont find it helpful i whish you luck. As is clear you may need it if you are zo set on train. Un.n
