My great grandmother would cut the hard pumpkins in half and put them on a pan with skin faced up and placed in oven until soft so she could scoop out the “meat”.

I know how to make that pumpkin cuttng and peeling go easy. Cut it in half and put it in the oven, cut side down on the pan. Cook it at 350 for about 30 minutes or so and it will peel and cut like a dream. My mother-in-law let me in on that little tip. It works for any kind of hard to peel winter squash or pumpkins. We watch all of your episodes. So relaxing.

That "Porcelain Doll" pumpkin looks like a long keeping squash, if you have more I'd store them. If not damaged you can keep quite a few squash and pumpkins in your cellar. I have a few Trombocino squash here in Nov 24 that I harvested Oct 23.

I feel your pain trying to get the pumpkin cut up. I cut it in half or quarters then 5-10 minutes in the microwave. Let it cool then proceed on. Or as Steven or Carolyn said bake in the oven. It’s a real trip to cut up the big or little ones. A new experience.

Thanks for sharing with us, my ears really perked up when you mentioned Pumpkin Butter. Sure would like to have that recipe and do you have one for Tomato Butter. I have not been able to find a recipe for either. You and Maggie did a great job on the pumpkin cooking for the freezer. Glad you got a great deal on the tires and wheels for your Ford Tractor Andy. Should be set now for the work in the gardens and fields. Glad you had your helper Jacob with you too and then you had your main helper with you also. Keep up the great jobs around there, stay safe and keep having fun too. Fred.

My mother had a few Old Hickory knives and all 6 of us kids knew they were the best. One in particular had been sharpened so many years that the blade was thin and had the perfect curve for tater peeling. Evidently she took that knife to heaven with her so we wouldn’t fight over it 😂 she’s been gone since 2008 and that old hickory has never turned up.

I love the flavor of the Pumpkin Doll Pumpkins. My neighbor buys 3 or 4 every year to decorate her front porch for Halloween, and then tosses them to the curb. I pick them up as soon as I see her do that. I'm just happy to save them for my use. Hubby cuts them in Half with a very large sharp knife. Once I scoop any seeds out, I coat the skin with some olive oil and lay them skin side up onto a baking rack and roast them at 350 degrees for about 40 mins. Scoop out the insides and use for making the best pumpkin pies ever. I also freeze some to make waffles, pancakes or pumpkin bread throughout the winter. They last a good two years uncut.

Those Doll pumpkins look like they are from the hubbard variety of pumpkins, which can be stored for months in your pantry. I love the Blue Hubbard variety and have had them store for 8 months and they only get better with age. The only down side is that they are very hard and cutting them up can be a chore. Best way is to cut them in half and roast them in the oven, they taste divine. Congratulations on getting those tractor tires exchanged, can't say I miss that part of the tractor upkeep, although I do miss the tractors.

Cut the pumpkins in half, put of a baking tray, bake them with the skin on and seeds in, cool them down, scoop the seeds out and feed to chooks or pigs, scoop the flesh out and you can freeze or use it in soups or baking. Amazingly easy and wonderful flavour from the baking

Suggestion: place a towel folded in half beneath the pumpkin when cutting, it won't move (you can also dampen it). Also, wet a towel, place under the cutting board, it won't move. The method that you're using to cut these pumpkins is dangerous. Love your videos! Chef Steve New Orleans

MEGAN: We dehydrate our pumpkin puree and turn it to powder. It rehydrates in minutes and makes a pie you can't tell from one made from fresh pumpkin. We had a great year with a super crop, that was two years ago and I'm still making great pies from the dehydrated pumpkin powder. I vacuum seal the jars of pumpkin powder but even after opening the jar, the dry powder seems to last unsealed for a long time with no caking. Great video.... as always.

Good morning y'all. Great video watching you prepare your pumpkins for the freezer & Andy putting new tires on his tractor. Lil' Maggie is learning her way around the kitchen is a hoot, her helping mama, & Jacob helping daddy. They're learning so much about farm life...I am too🤣 & enjoy every minute of it. I so look forward to each & every one of your videos & love 'em all. The pigs loved their pumpkin treat. Pumpkin pies this fall/winter & pumpkin bread...yum yum. My best advise for cutting up the pumpkins (it's the only way I can cut up a rutabaga) is to use an Old Hickory meat cleaver and a rubber mallet or a hammer. Also, put down an old dish towel to keep it from sliding on the cutting board.
