Currently work for the bank of Oklahoma. I'm a Customer experience specialist, which is a teller than can do anything a banker can do, besides helocs and approving other loans. I have my own office, and make double minimum wage. Highly recommend!

Teller for 20 years- yeah. Take advantage of any training for other departments, also tellers have to take like 12-13 financial tests each year to make sure they are in compliance with the latest laws on Reg DD Reg Z , TILA, CRA , AML just to name a few. I love my clients the most, and you have to have a repore with them because when you make a recommendation, saving account, credit card, they need to trust that you have THEIR best interest.

Just left my second interview, the interview was a little overwhelming, but I got through it . If your not a peoples/social person this job won’t be for you. My bank is located in a Walmart so when it’s time to get out on the sales floor and get a customer to open an account that will probably be a little nerve wrecking especially when people are just going to walk right past you 😐 wish me luck

However, the market is tough and being able to get a job at Wells Fargo right now with everything they offer I’m going to fight through it the best way I can💯 it’s hard finding a good job.

At my bank our tellers are universal. That means that the tellers are trained to do wires, account maintenance, debit card maintenance, and opening all accounts.... pretty much everything a banker would do. It’s rare that these things are done on the teller line but they will occasionally pull us from the teller line to be on platform to run appointments if needed. During your interview it is a good question to ask what your responsibilities will look like and if they will change after working there after a few months. Also ask about referrals because most banks require that you talk to customers to try to set appointments for loan opportunities.

But I'm pretty sure you just have to have a high school diploma since I think the minimum age is 18, and they train you I'm pretty sure! Maybe it depends on the bank?

I’m a customer service associate at Walgreens. Usually I’m cashier ,but some days I’m on the floor and I also am on the photo department sometimes. We have a lot of side tasks if we’re on the cashier and I was thinking of applying for this. I’m not sure though because I’m trying to get out of retail. I’m 19 now and I’ve been working here for 6 months. I want to wait a year to quit though. I think bank tellers are here to stay. When we were doing transactions by appointment only (due to covid), ppl really struggled & many refused to even make an attempt. A lot of ppl don’t even like to go to the ATM.

I left the credit union & now work at a larger bank. I feel as though most banks don’t require you to have sales goals anymore after the whole thing with Wells Fargo. I think sales goals have a bad rep now. At the credit union, we didn’t have goals but we did get paid bonuses when we did sell things. At the bank I work for now, we don’t have sales goals but we also don’t have incentives either. We just get paid bonuses based on overall customer satisfaction w the branches.

No, I don’t think they’ll care. You eventually just get good at counting money. I feel like maybe just good customer service skills are necessary. Being a fast learner would definitely be helpful but I don’t think they can do much once you’ve already been hired 😂

I personally bank at Chase & I always see at least one male bank teller. I guess it just depends! Large financial institutions will pay more but they’re definitely stricter. Smaller financial institutions will pay less & are little more lenient. When I applied, I applied to all types of financial institutions. I would stay away from Wells Fargo

My step-father works in the fraud department for a bank and has tried to give me tips about what he knows about working on the floor in a bank, he told me the complete opposite and told me that CHASE is a horrible bank to work for (I'm guessing he doesn't know what he's talking about or maybe it's just in my state or area?) My goal is to work for a larger commercial banking company since the pay seems to be better, all know they are much stricter on rules I'm okay with that and I'm good with following rules. I would get nervous as well when I would work a regular job that wasn’t at the bank & I would forget to give out some $. At least at the bank, it’s a lot harder for you to forget since it’s your main job. I just count my money like 3x before giving it out lol. BOA seems like a good job!

You should look at the job requirements. They usually require at least 6 months of customer service experience. Worth a shot though! Worst thing that can happen is that they say no

It’s crucial to be an asset to your company by keeping your cash drawer balanced everyday so experience with money handling is a key factor but in the interview process, highlight that you’re a fast learner and downplay the no experience. If you land the job, prove it by staying balanced & not losing company money.

Lifting coin deposit containers?...My mother was a cashier at a casino and customer's would bring in very heavy containers of change and she injured her good foot as she was already walking with cane..Then 2 months later she died due to complications to the foot injury.

No, you don’t need any certifications to become a bank teller. Just experience in customer service & cash handling, maybe sales as well!

I’ve been in banking for over 15 years. If you want to be a teller , make sure you are ready to handle large sums of money. Make sure you are ready to build relationships and refer . The main role of tellers nowadays, is to sell, by referring to the platform and to also build customer relationships. This helps customers trust your institution more and bring in more business. You most likely will have a sales goal, keep that in mind. Banks want you to make conversation, ask customers where else do they bank, try to get insight into any other opportunities

No, but I would recommend being able to do simple math. I had a coworker who was not good at math at all & even w all the tools we had, she messed up a lot. So just keep that in mind!

Credit unions get paid less than if you work at a larger financial institution! I only make $14.25 an hour. If you work at a commercial bank you can make $15+!
