Ask him! A lot of dedication and passion, endless of efforts! Listening, learning (tunes) jazz music. Transcribing music, analyzing... there is not one best way but you can study with someone already knows good directions.

Don't worry about "music theory" Part. Theory wont make you a better player. Theory makes you to understand music which you are learning (better)

Major scale, melodic minor, harmonic minor, penta tonics (Maj & min) and chromatic scales... if you don't know the chords... nothing will work!

Preparation. Learn chords, triads, 7th chords... arpeggios..then transcribe a lot solos so you will learn from great examples. Try Charlie Christian ROSE ROOM. Learn R 3 7 swing groove, Bb Blues, Bb Jazz Blues.

Like when you see a new car or brand new house... just amazing but we don't know how it was built? Same way... it's all about preparation!! I taught Pritesh so much about Root 3rd 7th Swing Groove. He took 4 semesters at Berklee so I taught 64 lessons (16 lessons at each semester) so that's a lot of preparation and review things!!! Thanks so much!! There's no way to approximate that... it really depends on how you approach the instrument and how much do you enjoy the learning process behind music theory and practice !!! If you care about "how long" is it going to take I don't think this is for you tho.... U need a different mindset, enjoy the journey my friend :)

0:43 it's melodic minor from whole step below dominant chords works over any resolving dominant 0:59 is also melodic minor but this time a half step above dominant chords its also works over any resolving dominant what i mean by resolving is functioning dominant btw its called tension and resolution good luck
