Good ole dodge. I recently sold a 2007 F350 diesel. And bought a 1999 Ram 1500. At the time I told myself it was a good idea. What I’ve learned…I’m not a dodge guy. I knew it was a little bit of a project when I bought it. And it’s not super difficult to work on, but it has so many little problems. Steering, interior….and dodge couldn’t decide what size bolts to use. The sizes are all over the place. I’m convinced now more than ever, that a dodge pickup is just a shipping crate for a Cummins engine.

I'm amazed by how little rust is on the trucks that you work on. Here in the rust belt, they rot away pretty fast. Vehicles 10-15 yrs old in the northeast are getting crusty. I like seeing the variety of things that you work on. Thank you!

Your exactly right about the special tool quadrium. I have a shelf full. I turn down jobs now that would require me to buy a probably one time use tool, especially if the price is stupid compared to the job. If I can't borrow or rent it, I don't work on it. Time for me to look out for me because looking out for others usually just leaves me broke.

I had to laugh a little myself at the fact that they put a snowplow on a Dakota. How long can anyone expect a clutch to last on an undersized truck pushing a snow plow? You make a really good point of the futility of buying specialty tools. It's partially why I bough a lathe and an old milling machine. I end up using them mostly for making tools to do machine work, and also to make my own special tools. I know, it takes up some of your time but making tools for putting in and taking out bushings goes pretty fast. The great thing is not having to wait or to chase some over priced tool around the country.

Don’t berate yourself my friend. You shared a REAL vibe with your experience their. I could almost feel the cold and wet . The cold took me back to going to work on my Gilera 50cc moped at 5.30 on dark winter mornings. The wet was lying in a puddle in a Cardiff scrap yard, to get a gearbox for a Chrysler Sunbeam out with two cars on it .

These videos give me the motivation to go out there in the driveway and wallow around in the mud and the yuck around and under my own machines. Also a leaf blower would help in situations like this where you could blow the water off the underside of the equipment and off the floor. Won’t help a bit in the mud though, Ha.

I remember those days buddy. We had older dump trucks we plowed with, the snow and cold weather exposed all of there weaknesses. The plow pistons were air, if the driver didn’t drain his tanks or forgot to put alcohol in the air compressor reservoir everything would freeze! I still get calls where the machines are out under a carport and the snow and rain destroys the machine. This why I have arthritis, everywhere!

Like the way you take care of the puppies, they are family as far I am concerned, hope that hot shower felt good after rolling around on wet, cold floor, been there done that, all one can say is, you do what you have to do, doesn’t mean you like it. I just finished up an overhaul on a 6r140 a couple of days ago for a 2011 powerjoke. My customer initially purchased a reman from Ford and had it installed and it lasted exactly 3 days. When they picked the transmission up from the dealer and looked at it they started having concerns with it since whoever is handling the reman process for ford is just painting over dirt and grease and it had mismatched pan bolts. They were glad they hadn't returned their original transmission core. I rebuilt their original transmission and they installed it and now they are fighting with ford for a refund. Most likely they will be disputing the charge with their credit card provider and get a charge back.

This week a whole lot of snow is being dumped on the UK so check out the news over here late next week . keep warm Warren. I have some electric socks coming to protect my damaged foot nerves. I’ve been real unhappy for a long time and layer down in a field to die. Along came freezing rain And I took it , figuring hyperthermia would more things along even better.
