Workington Station (The Rails which circled the World) - Cumbrian Coast Line (13th July 2022)

Just a short note to say that Workington Station was not closed following the floods and replaced by the temporary station at Dunmail Park. After an inspection it was decided that the railway crossing of the river was still safe, and this is what linked travellers from north of the river to the town. The normal trains still ran from Carlisle, but were supplemented by a shuttle service between Maryport and Workington. The station at Dunmail Park was built to allow people to park and catch the train across the river. A footbridge was reinstated first, followed by the new road bridge.

Grandad was a driver based in Workington, usually Carlisle and back. 2 toots on the whistle crossing Ha'penny Billy's Bridge meant 2 pints on the bar in the Railway Hotel.
