Workshop 004 Trimming the Doors

This'll not only make the doors look good and tidy up the gaps, but the trim preforms a function as well. As a doorstop, an aid to keeping the weather out, and will also push the doors back a little into the frame of the truck. The further the doors tuck back, the less the dirt and junk from the trees should accumulate and the rain might just not be so inclined to enter the gap at the top. Recessing the doors will hide any slight warping as well, just in case the braces can't keep back any desires of the frames to twist. Though in that regard, I am happy about the use of cement board and Starboard. Both of those should not have the same propensity to get bent like wood does. Who knows? Time I suppose will tell how well this project holds up.

Shop-related and modification videos are my favorite of yours. I want to see everything you do to the trailer, small or large. I really enjoy all of your modifications you've done over the years to boats, trucks, bike, camper, property, and more. It gives me inspiration and also I learn new/better ways to do things.

Your building skills and ingenuity are quite impressive, Marty! 👏 😎 I’ve been watching your videos for years, and you always seem to inspire me to look for solutions to projects in a different perspective, and you make “brain storming/ problem solving” with projects seem easy. Here’s to good quality craftsmanship, 🛠️ ingenuity, getting it done, tight lines 🎣 and cold refreshing beverages! 🍻 😊

Marty, you are a real genuine guy. I wish everyone was more like you. I feel like if someone handed you ten million dollars, (-and you were forced to take it, because i know you wouldn’t!) I feel like you would just be doing what you are doing right now. Much love as always, I have been watching this channel since the red sit-in kayak and I will never stop so long as you keep posting.

Love the sharing of the DIY projects. Definitely keep ‘em coming. One comment. I’ve been watching your videos since you were still employed and “fishin in the kitchen” in the bay. I’m just about the same age and have done just about as much kayak diy, modified this and built that. All that stuff. You reach a point when 1/8 and a 1/16 is just gonna make you spend more time on something that’s gonna get weathered anyways. I’ve spent countless hours fine tuning kayak mods only to have them weathered from the Florida heat and sun. Absolutely shoot for perfect, but sometimes good enough is good enough. Makes things done quicker to go back to fishing. My 2 cents.

Like your way of ‘simple’ living and attitude. You know what I mean. And always enjoy your videos. Being from Europe I’m always amazed the US is not using the metric system. Hey but it works😁. Wonder how the daylight inside will be after you repaired any leaks in the roof; assuming you will also clean the roof a little. Take care.

Hi Marty, I'm digging the workshop build. My request would be for you on your page to re/move the "Marty's picks" and "Houseboat Updates". Neither has been updated (or probably will be updated) and they just push the new content down lower. Keep up the good work!

Hey Marty looks like the project is coming along great! Quick suggestion, you can buy henges for the doors that are latched on the inside of the trailer. All someone has to do is come along and unscrew the henges on the outside of your doors and boom they are in your trailer with all of your tools. (By the size of that trailer it looks like you’re going to have thousands of dollars worth of tools and equipment in there)People will do just about anything to get inside of things that are not theirs!! I worked for a moving company for 5 years and we had to make sure the trailer was secure so no one could get in the trailer. I’ve heard all kinds of stories of people breaking into trailers of all sizes. Good luck!!
