M3 has rapidly become one of my favourite tanks. Not because it was particularly good or anything to do with it's performance. Mostly because of it's unique looks and the fact it had such a large crew! The hull was used as the basis for many other vehicles too. I'm looking fwd to watching the renovation rebuild. Hopefully the full team will be involved as things progress.

I love the Grant/Lee. Not only did it provide excellent service under UK command against the Afrika Korps until being replaced by the M4 Sherman, it also provided excellent service in the Far East against the Imperial Japanese forces. As if that weren't enough, it is hands-down the steampunkiest tank to ever enter mass production.

3:50 mark: The Slipring with all the electrical contact to the underside of the turret basket is great. It is held stationary with the hull while the contact shaft is attached to the turret and allowed to turn through a 360-degree arc. I thought the same. Obviously they experimented with different construction methods. The Americans didn't do things half cocked. Any choices made were thoroughly researched beforehand. That way if mistakes were made, they were made for the right reasons and an alternative had already been pioneered. An important aspect and luxury of, "industrial might."

@@gusgone4527 Eh kinda. Sometimes "mistakes" were intentional compromises or the unforeseen consequences there of. The reason there were so many different construction methods wasn't experimentation, it was because of the wide variety of industries that were being pressed into war production as fast as possible had different capabilities. Some could weld plate, some could cast, etc. So the basic design and specs were modified to suit.
