Here in the states I live about 1 hour 45 minutes from Aberdeen Proving Ground, which used to have what I think was the largest collection of old armor in the US. In the Army’s great wisdom and with a huge waste of taxpayer dollars they broke the collection up, some going to Ft. Benning, some to Ft. Sill and the giant Wehrmacht railroad gun going to Ft. Eustice. I used to love driving there with the kids and wandering through the armor collection! Then one day it was gone! Just in time AusArmor came along on my cell phone to ease the pain! You guys do a great job

I guess this is why we don't all drive tanks. The gallons per mile really suck, and maintenance and repairing stuff is REALLY hard work. Oh man, I'd really like to know what the true, all-up cost of restoring this tank works out to be. I have restored a 1969 Porsche 911S on my YT channel, and it was heart-breakingly expensive. But the bills would be tiny compared to the hours spent on your Grant. I am so glad I can vicariously enjoy you spending your money!

My uncle was a mechanic on tanks in WW2. He said that they had a couple tools to remove those axles: 1) FIRST, grease that shafts. You've got the grease fittings, that would ease some of the rust. 2) Imagine a stout socket that straddles those outer hex fittings. Instead of a square fitting, it has been threaded to let a LONG grade 8 bolt be inserted into the axle (where you've been putting in a bolt to whack on), and then used to pull the axle out. Lube the bolt first with heavy grease, as winding it in will take some pressure in extracting the axle...don't want that bolt seizing up, do ya? Since your axles are so badly rusted, this in conjunction with hammering the back side would make it a lot easier to extract the axles. Hindsight being 20/20 and all...looks like you figured that out at 20:14 or so...

That Grant has the later suspension used on the Sherman, so having Sherman wheels makes sense, the Grant as we know was the father of the Sherman. The later suspension on the Grants were a common retrofit on the M3 Mediums, as the early M4 Mediums also had the earlier Grant Suspension.
