I built a makeshift version of this for my Milwaukee batteries using one of the compact packout boxes. I feel like this is a no brainer for manufacturers. Great move from Dewalt.

I agree!!! Why did it take soooooo long??? Finally received mine and I’m very pleased with it! Charger works fine, not as good as my stand alone double charger but acceptable. Have loaded it with mostly 4ah 20v and I can say I’ve put in 20 batteries, three being 3ah 12v, and one big 20/60v 9ah, plus the DeWalt USB adapter!!! HEAVY, but I’m happy with being able to have all those batteries in one place when I need multiple tools going and not having to “hunt” down batteries!!! Thanks for the review! Thanks DeWalt!!

Totally agree that it's kinda curious why it's taken so long. But looking at other comments to see if anyone was going to make a comment about their own custom charging box may be the answer to the question. Im guessing most of us professionals made our own similar boxes years ago when the first storage systems came out so there might not have been a real market push for this. Good on Dewalt bringing one to market though as it looks to be a great product.

Considering how useful it is to have a lockable box at a job site for a charger. I’d say it would be one of the best stacking system chargers. Theft issues is the biggest issue at some sites rather than tool brands choice. Well done dewalt, you outdid my Milwaukee pack out systems.

Great reviews video. I'm thinking your right about the heat build up as to why they didn't do it sooner. It would have be nice if they incorporated an inside thermometer and temperature control for at least the winter season. I couldn't tell you how many times I've left my battery bag in the truck during freezing temperatures and found out the following morning that nothing works😢. Keep up with the awesome work.

Another factor to consider with lithium batteries is temp. I normally have my batteries in the shed or in the truck which means that they can be subject to high temps in the summer and freezing temps in the winter. A battery storage box that was insulated but could also provide nominal heat would be ideal. Bringing my batteries into the house every night is annoying
@LordIntrepid
@LordIntrepid Жыл бұрын
Yeah. I bought a Dewalt heated jacket just to use it to line a box I keep my batteries and charger in. Glued in some spare rigid insulation from a jobsite and it easily keeps things appropriately toasty. I'm surprised they went with usb-a though. Most things use Usb-c these days.

Good review. Maybe mention to store batteries with indicator up. I don't put anything but batteries in my box, why would you? Loving my charger box, I am a drywall contractor and I just purchased the led light box that goes on top. Chargers are 4 amp each so its just not the 8 amp fast charger or the 6 amp one but way better then the dcb112 - 2 amp or worse the dcb107 - 1.25 amp. Keeps my batteries warm on cold sub-zero job-sites due to the internal fan while charging. I have 4-dcb203, 2-dcb204bt, 3-dcb240 and 4-DCBP034 powerstack and still room for more and also a couple stored in the chargers.

The issue i have with this box is heat, and moisture, since its sealed when closed your not only making a hot box, but a wet one as well. One would NEED to have a rechargeable desiccant or two in to box for it to be viable storage/charger solution.

So with many normal tools, I say no issue. BUT, with a Milwaukee jacket, if you leave a battery plugged in, it will kill the battery in 2 months, from my experience. Normal tools dont seem to have that issue.

For me the one thing that would make this great is if it had a rechargeable battery in the bottom so that I could charge in the plot I'm in. Instead I would have to unload all my charged batteries into the plot and leave this in the nearest plot that has power. Apart from that it seems like a neat bit of kit

If this is indeed dual 4ah charging, this will pay for itself quickly for anyone that’s trying to charge up their 20/60v stuff over lunch compared to the standard 1.5AH charger that’s typically included with the tools. I have a wall mounted battery storage system for the garage but being able to keep all the batteries I have together in one place on the tough system 2.0 cart is a no brainer. Would love to see a battery-to-battery charger where you could clip in say (2) of the 60v 12AH batteries and charge your smaller(3ah or 5ah 20v batteries) and or phone/peripherals etc while you’re on a job-site without power. Maybe tough system 3.0…

My guess as to why noone has come up with this type of idea until this is probably the same reason noone has come up with a worksite radio/sound box that's worth a darn yet either. I've owned DeWalt tools all my life (my Dad had an old Dewalt Radial Arm Saw, so that gor me started) an have owned two of the jobsite radios - both were pretty terrible. What am I looking for in a radio/sound system? Good sound that doesn't distort like hell at higher volume, and has pretty good bass. Then, give me at least a dual charger of at least 4 amp output with maybe switchable fast charging on at least one of the two ports, and dual 2+ amp USBs. Having the unit able to connect to the ToughSystem 2.0 storage system is a must as is of course the ability to run off of a 110V power cord. Then there's the common sense side of me that says if they did this, noone would buy anything else, so the current radio and all the other charges stop selling. Guess that's the price you pay for good product design and common sense utility. I may just buy one of these and then design a sound system that can run off it and will connect to the TS 2.0 so it can sit under this unit. Maybe take a DWST08300 Medium Case and mod it to be the sound system. OR, just to be a disrupter, I'd like do the same but instead use a Milwaukee Packout system. Problem is this box won't connect to it! LOL!

I’d say liability, if something backfires in that box you now have an incendiary that could deal a lot of destruction relatively quickly. Take your own example of being left out on a hot day, now add something on top of the box(say a towel) and you have raised the likelyhood that’s gonna pop by like 2 or 3 times, and if you happen to be busy at a different part of the jobsite, by the time you come back it could be a flaming pile of 1000’s $ worth of equipment. The chance is low but it is there and no manufacturer wants to be responsible for that. If someone DIYs their own battery box that atleast removes liability from dewalt. I imagine Dewalt is only comfortable releasing this now because they have a 99% confidence that nothing like that could occur, likely has two dozen safety mechanisms to prevent such an event, or they figured some legal way of removing their own liability. Either way cool product, hopefully it pushes other manufacturers to try their hand at it. I’ll have to stick to a DIY approach since I run more then a single battery system. Cool for those that don’t though

@Making Made Simple I was working with a portable power station today that cost 600 bucks and had a 1036 watt hour battery pack. It weighed about 38 pounds with the ac inverter that we would not need. So that would charge ten 5Ah batteries or five 9Ah batteries. This seems heavy and expensive, but plausible. I need to see if Dewalt makes a DC charger. If so, we could make this for much less than anyone would charge for it with some LIFPO cells. Is that in the realm of what you would want to charge remotely?
