This was an excellent review. I wasted my time watching 2 guys in a garage just passing the tool back and forth to each other. This is how a real review is done. Thank you.

I have the corded Dewalt planer. Great tool. When I was doing some remodeling in this old house, one of the 2 x 4's was really bowed.....bad. I used the planer to take out the bow so I did not have to replace the 2 x 4. Saved me a lot of work. Now that I saw your video, I am considering getting the cordless model. I like the idea of Dewalt putting two extra blades on board. Very creative on their part. I already ruined a set of blades on my planer. A contractor actually used a bowed 2 x 4 x 16 in the addition. I again used the planer to cut it down but I hit a few nails. It was worth sacrificing a set of blades since the stud was pretty much un replaceable where it was. Thanks for the great video. Mannn, this is an excellent review. This is how you do a tool review. I'm not a professional, so I do extensive research before buying any tool. I know DeWalt tools are mainly known to be reliable and have good quality. Regardless of that I still want to make sure if that particular tool is what I want and need. This planer looks to be that tool that I may need for my upcoming home remodeling project. Thanks again for the review.

I got one of these when they were first released in the UK..... I already own a 110V version but since getting the cordless it hasn't been used! Its a great piece of kit. My only criticism isn't with the planer itself its with DeWalt. They were a full 2 years behind Makita in getting this to market. It was reasonable to assume that they would learn from this but they were again 2 years behind in releasing their 18v palm router (got mine the day after they went on sale!!) ..... I love DeWalt tools, but come on guys, get your act together and keep up!!!!

Good video . Not sure why I was surprised to see imperial markings on the dial , so used to the metric system now in UK. It does clog occasionally but that's the only drawback .

We recently lumbered a 36" maple, a 36" white ash, and a 32" pecan. After drying, we tried planing with a Rigid (Home Depot) 13" planer with 2 HSS knives kzbin.infoUgkxIzvvTi3_Qc8JnVdYYRJCvuoDC4QjTzeL . This job was clearly too much for that machine. The pecan was particularly difficult, due to heavy mineral deposits, and a sharp pair of HSS knives would be consumed by a mere 3 boards. We were also having lots of problems from chip bruising, due to poor dust collection. The shavings came off like straw and jammed in the 4" hose.We bought the DW735 simply to be able to run carbide blades, which worked brilliantly for the pecan. However, we found it to be a much, MUCH nicer machine. It was far more rigid than the "Rigid" planer, and far more accurate as well. But what I liked most about it was the dust feed. This machine has its own blower, which shreds the "straw" like shavings as they come off the cutting head and helps boost the shavings into the dust collection system. No more clogs! It's also nicely sealed so that the internals stay quite clean. This is just a well tempered machine that's a delight to use. It literally cut the labor in half. Just another example of getting what you pay for.

Nice video, very informative. Thanks for posting. Quick question: I need to plane the bottom of a porch beam that is comprised of three 2x12s. They don’t sit flush to each other. I am thinking of buying this planer and trying to use it to even out the surface. Do you think it would be difficult to use this upside down? I would be working overhead with it to even out the underside of the beam. Thanks

@travisedwards9983
@travisedwards9983 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you will need to go around with a nail punch and drive the nails in deeper/screw screws in deeper to prevent the blades from making contact. Use shallow passes as well just incase

Too long is relative, you should try to refinish hardwood flooring on a whole house with a 4" belt sander. You could remove a lot of wood with 24 grit silicon carbide belt. Going to hit that one nail with the planner when you sink most of it down even after using a woodworking metal detector. If you do, super light cuts stop when you see shiny spots.
