I read some of the comments giving some tips, so here is mine.. just under the pulley, put some guide for cable but with microswitch. So you dont have to worry of lifting too high.. Great project, as always!

I would convert my Harbor Freight 2 ton crane and add a 2 " tongue for the receiver on my truck to move my car lift.

Great project!!! Small tip: in order in increase battery life I would suggest connecting positive to last battery and negative to the first one. It will still make 12VDC but load on all cells will be spread. Now the first and second battery need to provide more power over longer cables (more resistance) than the first one. PS. Love your channel

It's cool. I have two suggestions - adding an automotive battery isolation switch, as the volt meter and remote control box will kill the batteries by draining them down 24/7 and adding a loop for the hook, so you can use a pulley to reduce motor load.

first off, this is well beyond my fabrication abilities, so kudo's do you for being able to make this. Only 2 change i would make is 1) add in the ability to charge the battery(s) without opening the box. 1) replace the bolt in the support arm to upper boom with a Clevis pin, to make it easier to raise and lower the boom arm.

great build, but I would definitely upsize the capacity of that winch. Winches are not made for vertical lifting. And if they do not have an included mechanical brake, it's possible whatever you lift could come crashing down. e

@@Fried298 when there’s a will, there is a way. Someone smart enough to build something like this, might not. However, if you own a winch, you should already know they are not designed for vertical lifting. They are not a hoist. An electric hoist with a mechanical brake is a much better option.

@Terryfolds is right. As long as nothing happens, everyone ist happy. But bei aware, that cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment is strictly legulated by law. If something happens, especially in commercial use, it is obliged to use CE-certified machinery according to the rules of the European machinery directive. As long as you use this hoist for yourself, its your own risk. But be aware, that your health insurance is allowed to repel an insurance case, if ist was caused by an inproper designed lifting device. If you want to sell or give away it another day, be aware, that in that case your are - by law - the responsible person, which is bringing this machine into circulation and so has to guarantee, that the machine fulfills the codes of the machinery directive.

@@spike1670 no, as a winch should never be used for vertical lifting (unless specifically designed) ie a retail unit. Also, that’s not the average weight of an American.

@Spike16Good luck. The brakes of a winch are not designed for keeping up and lowering vertical loads. Hoists have a specified Safe Work Load (S.W.L.) for lifting loads, which must not have been exceeded, but the brakes are designed to keep up the load and also to lower the load without motor in case of an emergency.

Very impressive work. As you probably already know, if you take most of the cable off the spool, you will greatly increase your lifting power as the spool diameter will be smaller with fewer turns on the spool. You only need enough cable to reach the floor...

Great build and video that is straight to the point. I would have made one safety edition which is a cable guide or bracket over the pulley. Basically some sort of U bracket just in case your cable jumps the pulley. It could save a limb. Also, is there a way to add two more pulleys to triple your lifting power?
