8:25 these videos are great man, they are the ying to the yang of the camp videos. They are also so relatable and thus very enjoyable to watch. You can picture your mrs when you come in: "Get everything done you wanted to?" ... "no, totally pointless, I tried to 'upgrade' something and ended up wasting 2 days, breaking a tool that cost me £100 and now I have to buy something to even get the truck moving which will cost £400, I'm also starving, exhausted and my hands are cut and bruised, anyway how have the kids been? "

I can totally relate! And then I argue with myself. Why the beep Are we doing this. Then I take a break come back. Realizing I went about this all wrong. Then actually accomplish my original objective. And can’t really share with anybody what I actually did. Because they don’t understand lol nor care to listen. But then you meet another xj guy at the gas station. And he’s like how did you do that? 2hrs later you’re still at the gas station talking to the guy. And the wife is like. I thought you were just out getting gas. No. I’m explaining the thing I did last week that I said would take 2hrs but took 2 days. Wife’s like to who?This guy at the gas station I just met who also has an XJ. And now we are going 4x4ing on Saturday 😂.

It doesn't seem too bad. It was originally 700, but I dialled the pump back. The pyro gauge is just out of cylinder 4, so it should be pretty accurate. Hopefully, 650 for short periods isn't an issue. Thanks for watching

OMG, hell of a job ! @WorkshoptoWilderness may I ask you how you unscrewed two of the three bolts of the pump? one easy, the one one the head side is impossible to reach, and the other one of the bottom, can't even see it. Any special/handmade tool ? What did you used to remove the injectors without damaging the two small diesel return lines ? I used a huge long socket and given the length and force needed the socket slightly displaces and damaged it.
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
For the nut close to the head, I used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to tap it loose. I also used the same method to tighten it. Underneath the pump required removal of the battery and alternator. Initially, when setting up the pump, this one was left snug until I was happy with the timing. I also test drove the pump without this bolt tightened. The injectors are an absolute pain in the ass and require super human strength to loosen. I ground the face of a 28mm long socket originally so that it would have maximum engagement without the small taper at the lip of the socket. I removed the valve cover also. The two return nipples didn't seem to be an issue, even now that it's on a 27mm. Thank you! It was a lot of work. I just have to keep an eye on everything now.
@securedigital15 ай бұрын
@@WorkshoptoWilderness Thanks a ton for your kind reply. PumpOhhh man, now it makes sense how you were able to unscrew that pump evil bolt. Really smart grinding the face of the socket to maximize surface contact, I will do that as well !! I used wurth Boltex to aid on removing the injectors. Next time I will try with a long 28mm socket and a powerful impact driver. When making some super human strenght to loosen, is easy to twist the socket and destroy everything. This is caused because the injector has a relatively small surface contact area against the socket. I also removed the valve cover (it MUST be done), and slightly bent the sides of the heads with the socket, that later I had to file and polish. Another trick that helped me a lot to unscrew the two parts injector, is to moderately hit them with a hammer all around the threads. It helped a LOT to unfreeze them afterwards with the bench vise. Fire may be needed by I would at first avoid it because metal is relatively thin and can bend with the strokes. Piece of cake unscrewing them after that.

The pump has changed the acoustic of the jeep. It sounds really nice. Not as sharp when you're sitting inside, bit duller.

Mech pumps sound way different to common rails. That’s the noise you’re hearing
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
I mean, the exhaust sound is different along with the induction noise due to more fuel. I'm not sure if I misunderstood the first question as what you said is obvious the case also.

At 27:43, What's with the oil gauge diving down to almost nothing and you check gauges light coming on?
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
Its a broken sensor that I cannot find the original of anymore. I have an analogue gauge next to the EGT. There are few dead sensors now. The coolant level sensor and oil sensor along side the rear hatch sensor. I need to install my own coolant level sensor. The originals of these things just any easy to find anymore.

When I bleed my tractors injectors it can take like two hours. You need to get every bubble of air out of the pump, lines, injectors etc
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
I've not really had this much trouble before with bleeding fuel although the whole experience would have been much shorter if I had just turned the fuel screw and indexed it at the very start. That being said at least I learned something.
@jamesa75066 ай бұрын
So the original fault on the new pump was the idler screw out of adjustment?
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
Yeah, and indexing. So there was no issue apart from the person doing the job.

Hi Mike,,love your vid's ,, also going to do the manual pump but no video on KZbin,, you mentioned somone helped you from UK, can you send me the link plz,,I'm from South Africa
@WorkshoptoWilderness5 ай бұрын
Hey. Nobody helped me from the UK. Someone sold me with the pump from the Netherlands. Setting up the pump isn't difficult as it tells you in the manual how to set the timing and dial in the pump with a dial reader. I have a video showing this. The manual pumps just take time to tune in and configure after installation. You just have to drive it, test it, and get the timing close. Then, you can dial in the LGA at the top of the pump to configure boost response along with the fuel screw and idle screw. If this feels a bit daunting, then I would get someone to instal it for you, although I don't think a regular mechanic would understand how to fine tune the pump.

Any plans for a M57 swap? I can see it coming!
@WorkshoptoWilderness6 ай бұрын
I've toyed with the idea, but it's not easy to do in Sweden. I personally really like this engine. It's probably up around 180hp now. It's rebuildable and mechanical, and I have everything I need to keep it going for another 20/30 years. In that time, diesels will be banned anyway. The m57 is an excellent engine, but it's another shit storm of work, money, and bullshit.
@cesarsuarez29546 ай бұрын
@@WorkshoptoWilderness yes, I’m in that storm right now. I’m Building the BMW as a plan B but my Vm refuses to die. Thanks for sharing your build. It’s an inspiration for us in Aus with the Xj diesels that are so underrated

I will probably pick up an m57 one day if I find something, and it's right time right, place kind of thing. Maybe I can put on the engine stand as a possible father son project. I just really love my vm, though despite what anyone says.
