Worksop Halloween Half Marathon 2023

3rd time running the Worksop Halloween Half Marathon on Sunday 29th October 2023.
Finishing time of 1:31.19 and 102nd finisher out of 1371 and 37th in M35
A pleasant day, dry and blue sky, between 8 and 12 degrees, ideal for running, though a little greasy underfoot through the trees after all the rain.
Wanted to try for a quick time, so attempted to keep the pace at sub 7min/miles, managed to do this for most of the race, but a few of them managed to slip away, mainly going up the some of the hills, though managed to keep the rest below, to average 6:54 to make it back for a new course PB

Cheers Jeff Yeah, managed to get past a few at the end there! I do like running down that final hill, but it seems to go on forever after it flattens out at the bottom!

Good stuff. I eased past you at 800 yds but you were back past me by a mile and 2 mins ahead at the finish.

Great time Matt is that a PB?Did this run too but it all went wrong underestimated the early hills and blow at 6 miles was so tempted to DNF but held on and felt every mile of those long straights in Clumber!

Cheers It was probably the third fastest half I've run, it was about 10 second faster than the Robin Hood Half, but about 80 seconds slower than my still time PB, that was set during the old Sheffield half, about 15 years ago. The climb up Sparken hill did take some of the pace from the legs. The long climb up to the crossroads in Clumber then up to the arch way at Truman's lodge can be soul destroying, but at least there weren't any ankle deep pools of run off from the pig farm to run through this year!

Yes I did it the year of the floods too think it was 2021 was pretty rough running through all that water! Interestingly my all time PB was also the old Sheffield course,I first did Sheffield 2006 and have done it every year since.I actually prefer the new course though as most of my training is in the hills.Looking forward to it next year! @@MattClarry

I noticed that too - always wears ultra-baggy t-shirts and has a slightly ungainly running style! Could be wrong, but might be Matt's brother? Used to spot him in lots of the Clumber parkrun vids.

Cracking run so close to the Marathon run!! Shame about that 10km-15km drop off.... think a sub 1:30 was there, strong finish!👍 🦾🏃❤

Cheers Stuart, yeah couldn't quite hold on to that pace going up those long hills, they definitely felt harder after the marathon! Need to find a flatter course to try for that sub 1:30!
