15:19 Gen 3 doesnt allow you to release a pokemon if it's the only one you own that can learn a certain HM move to prevent softlocks, and Castform was the only pokemon Alpha owned that could learn Flash.

15:30 In Gens 1 and 2, players were able to soft-lock their save files by releasing their Pokemon in certain P.Centers that required certain HMs to leave the area. So to avoid that scenario, the developers implemented the mechanic in Gen 3 that some Pokemon won't allow you to release them if certain conditions aren't meant. The most obvious conditions are having too few Pokemon, Trying to release Pokes who know HMs, and trying to release a Pokemon that is the last one you own that can learn a certain HM. So if you only ever caught one Pokemon that learns fly and then try to release it, it'll probably come back saying that it was worried about you.

@@cathl4953 well, for some video and visual examples, I'd recommend Pikaspry Yellow's "Soft Lock Picking" series on KZbin. But if I were to try to explain it, the term "soft lock" came from and is somewhat derived from the term "hard lock." A hard lock where the game is rendered "unplayable" in some form or fashion, like the character freezes up and none of the player's inputs can get them out of it, not even by waiting it out. Usually the pause functionality is also not working in this case. Most other forms of a "hard lock" would be like a game crash. Now this is in slight contrast to a "soft lock" which is similar in that it will also "lock" the game but not in as strict of a fashion. Basically a "soft lock" is a video game term for when a game is in a state that is "playable" but it is impossible for the player to make any progress in. For example, imagine a Pokemon Red or Blue file that is at the entrance to the elite four, but you only have a lvl 1 Magicarp. No other mons in the PC, all your items are sold, and you have no money to buy anything. Sure, you can run around the elite four and challenge them but that'll get you nowhere. You can try going back to victory road, but all the wild mons have moves that just kill you instantly while your Magicarp only knows splash. I believe in gen1 you can sell your HMs, and even if didn't/can't Magicarp can't learn enough to get you out of victory road. And if all of the trainers in victory road were already defeated, you can't challenge them again in hopes of getting more money &/or experience. So sure, the game file is "playable" in the sense that you can control the character and do some stuff in the game, but you can't make any progress in it. You can't go forward, and you can't go backwards, you're just stuck. That's my long explanation of what a soft lock is.

I wonder if the game gives you Castform specifically in case a player decides to never catch a pokemon, so that the required double battles are possible. That would explain why you can’t release the Castform, since it would leave you with less than two pokemon.

As for the history of memes early in the video: The first meme arguably could’ve been “Kilroy was here,” from WW2. There are a few theories as to how it started, but it popped up in graffiti basically wherever allied soldiers went (mostly British and American soldiers). And before that, in the Middle Ages, giant silly snails appeared in a lot of paintings and manuscripts, possibly symbolic for something lost to history, but honestly probably a meme/joke that people had fun with. So even before the internet, memes have been around for quite a long time!

surf was amazing in gen 3 especially in double battle when using kyogre, but sadly it got nerfed in gen 4 that surf could hit your teamate like earthquake wich imo i was kinda pointless but at same time its not too shaby for a double battle combo when you got a tank pokemon like quagsire with water absorb in team with kyogre that uses surf then again you couldve use protect so the opponet that targeted your more vulnerable pokemon would be protected and your strong one weakens your opponet then finish them off

Yes, things like the Magma base were some of the most amazing parts of Emerald, where it took the flawed plots of both initial games and combined them into one coherent plot with expanded parts to fill the gaps. Omitting ALL OF IT in ORAS cause "duh it's RS remakes not Emerald remakes :^)" is my main gripe with ORAS. Like here you have this amazing game that puts Groudon, the LAND POKEMON that Team MAGMA is after, into the regions ACTIVE VOLCANO. So how does Omega Ruby elegantly apply this objectively superior take on the mascot legendary? Well, it doesn't. Instead, Maxie takes a CAMERUPT SHAPED SUBMARINE to find Groudon DEEP UNDER THE OCEAN. People at Gamefreak approved that. s____s???????????????????? How could they let that pass? Simple. By going: "oh well, if we instead make the player LITERALLY RIDE RAYQUAZA INTO SPACE, everyone will be amazed and forget about it!"

I think it's because he didn't have enough Pokemon (total and in the moment) to fill a party, so it wouldn't let him. Same thing can happen when you try to release a pokemon in your party that is the only one that knows a certain HM (to avoid you trapping yourself on an island by releasing any Pokemon that can learn Surf or Fly, etc)

In case you did not know, in gen 3 (it might be in other generations but I'm not sure), you can not release a pokemon that has an HM that only that pokemon knows. I believe that this is the case so the player can not get soft locked incertain areas in the game.

Answering your question on how can a Pokemon refuse a release, starting in gen 3 if a Pokemon can learn a certain hm that none of the other Pokemon you have can learn, it will come back saying it was worried, this was put in the games to help prevent softlocking

So if im not mistaken the castform staying is a gen 3 specific thing. Specifically for tate and liza. The games coded for you to never be able to release a mon if you only have 2. Theres a few other cases of a pokemon not being able to leave. Like if its the last one to know a certain hm or something like that.

You can find wailmer in the wild area without the dlc, then evolve it to wailord. My brothers weren't impressed by dynamaxing it. But there is a wild wailord in the isle of armor.

If you talk to the aqua grunts in the team Aqua base in Lilycove, they tell you where you need to go to progress in the game

Somebody’s probably said this already but in case they haven’t Pokemon can’t be released if they’re your last Pokémon with certain HMs. What’s weird though is that Alpha had all the required HMs on Mudkip, so it’s possible the game has a minimum Pokémon limit, possibly 2 after you get Castform so that the gym is possible.

Somebody's probably said this already, but the reason he couldn't release Castform, is because in Emerald they added the feature that you can never be left with no Pokemon that can learn HM moves. They did it to prevent soft-locks. If for some reason you released all but one of your Pokemon, and deleted every one that could learn an HM, and also sold all your items/pokeballs, and had no way to earn more money, you'd be completely unable to do anything but start a new game, in certain situations. I think for Ruby and Sapphire it requires you healing at the Mossdeep Pokemon center, then going back to Lilycove and deleting your HM moves, like Surf. You also spend all of your money, and sell all your pokeballs.Then, you use a Pokemon with teleport which returns you to the Mossdeep Pokemon center, then you release the Pokemon that had Surf and any others that could learn HM's in your box, thus leaving you stranded on an island, with only a teleport Pokemon, with no access to pokeballs to catch a new Pokemon to teach Surf or Fly to.

Wailord is already in the sword and shield so u can already have a dynamax wailord which ngl in the game is probs half the size of regular wailord

Fun fact, the tentacrool sceen is in the wrong place. His mudkip is Level 69 when killing the shiny, but in the next sceen it's 68 while againth the gymleader and only hits 69 a bit later.
