In our family we have an Irish, an Australian and a British passport so our daughter has access to all 3 depending on which she chooses. Even though this video ranks the British passport the highest as it's based on short term or holiday visa 's we feel that a EU passport is much stronger as it can give you permanent working rights across the EU. It would be interesting to see the list of passports which offer permanent entry to other country's to see which passport is actually the strongest.

The Irish passport is slightly more powerful than other EU passports as it offers you to be able to live and work in the UK. Other EU countries passports don't have this "add on".

As Japanese living in overseas for many years and traveling all the time, sometimes I really feel some advantages of having Japan passport especially at the airports and when I apply for residential visa. When I traveled with my friends(from various countries), my friends were being asked so many questions mainly about the purpose of visit at the immigration but they asked me nothing and let me enter quickly so I had to wait for my friends for so long. I’ve experienced this kind of situation many times before in many countries. Of course I never know the truth but I assume those immigration staff are judging by the nationality of passport. Not bragging or anything it’s just a small matter of life but just telling some stories..

It's not just the passport. I'm an Australian citizen entering Australia and we all know how strict the quarantine is. The quarantine lady started asking me questions and before I even answered, she spotted my boarding pass and said oh you traveled from Japan, you can go now lol

The delay in arranging the passport does not necessarily mean that the passport is weak or that it is difficult for its holder to travel with it. I hold two nationalities, Saudi and Australian, and it was not difficult for me to enter Europe, Canada and even Australia - before obtaining its nationality - with a Saudi passport. On the contrary, sometimes it took only 48 hours for the visa to arrive by e-mail, and sometimes the visa was obtained at the airport after reaching the destination. I think there are other considerations that make movement easier or more difficult, depending on the general situation of the country globally, and not just the classification of the passport.

Been blessed with dual Norwegian-American citizenship since birth. Norway is independent from EU, yet has all the benefits, and with the Schengen-agreement I can move to a substantial amount of countries any day and start working with no questions asked. US citizenship is great, because it adds the US to that list, and has been wonderful being able to travel back and forth throughout my life.

" Norway is independent from EU, yet has all the benefits" No, not fully true. As a member of the European Economic Area, Norway has to follow certain EU requirements without being able to decide on them at EU level. Norway also pays a lot to get access to the EU internal market.

I think you're wrong. There are ranks in the military and there can be many privates, lieutenants, generals etc. Those are not unique positions. Although there's a difference between a rank and a ranking. Even a ranking can be "equal to" other rankings instead of just "greater" or "lesser".

Cool list. A couple of points to note. Firstly, it is going to be largely dependent on which countries are honoring a specific passport at a given time. The listed destinations and the ones actually honoring them is going to change based on global events and politics. Secondly, it depends on the department sponsoring the passport amd for what purpose. As an example, in the US, a standard passport sponsored by the Department of State and a military passport sponsored by the Department of Defense are going to be different in where they are authorized for and which countries will honor them at a given time. The same goes for diplomatic passports. They will also sometimes allow for different amounts of leeway when it comes to how long you can stay in a country before filing for a visa. Some countries even have biometrics set up for entry so you don't have to show your passport the next time you visit. They just take your thumb prints electronically at a kiosk and it electronically checks that your passport is still valid, then spits out a ticket for entry. I know it might be harder to do, but a list about entry requirements/ease might be fun. The easiest customs/entry process I have experienced was in Singapore. They took my prints for future entry and just let me walk through. There was a line for declarations or if you had nothing to declare, you just grabbed your bag and went out the door. I even tried to declare medication on one visit (it was a controlled substance in both the US and Singapore), and the officer at the counter just asked "Personal use?", and waved me along without looking or asking questions about what it was. I guess having the death penalty for trafficking makes normal interactions fairly casual.

It’s interesting to see the majority of the low-ranking flags are countries that have internal discipline problems. Lack of adherence to laws, indifference to community values and slowly improving as the numbers rise. This points out two things… oppression by more dominant countries - and lack of commitment by their own governments. There are exceptions in the higher ranked nations, which have a different view of internal political leadership, putting wealth and individualism above society in general.

These rankings are made to sell immigration services (so they're trying to tell you why a certain passport is desirable and you should move there), and the ranking you propose wouldn't really help sell anything, so no one's going to do it.

Nice video, keep it up! I feel like the possibility of visa free travel is not everything about a passport tho. I have both the Italian and Swiss citizenship and even though the Italian passport is stronger in terms of visa I always prefer taking the Swiss passport with me since I think that there is more trust towards it. The only times where I have the Italian one with me is in Italy or if I would go to Vietnam or Mongolia which are the two countries that are visa free on top of the visa free ones of the Swiss passport

That happened to me too at Suvarnabhumi Airport. I'm British. The queue was for the Chinese. That also explains why they were all so loud, rude and angry. Our chaperone (yes we had a chaperone - a Thai one no less) and she told us they were indeed Chinese. You could tell from their jumble sale clothes to be honest though! We filled in a short form, it took two minutes, and we were through.

@Mujtaba MohammadContrary to common belief, obtaining Japanese citizenship is easier than in the US and many European countries. However, to be qualified, you must live and work in Japan continuously for more than five years. Additionally, you will be required to write an appeal letter stating your reasons for wanting Japanese citizenship, so it is important to think of a compelling justification. Other factors that will be considered favorably include having conversational level proficiency in Japanese, being married to a Japanese person and starting a family, and being able to provide proof of a stable income. Working as a part-time or freelance employee would generally be viewed negatively by the authorities. Once you have completed all the requirements and submitted the necessary documents, you can expect to wait for about a year while they conduct a background check before granting you citizenship.

@iyadart Congratulations. Very happy for you. But... How do Japanese people react and behave when they see a foreigner? Have you ever faced with discrimination or prejudices? (I hope, this question will not bother you. I just heard, Asians are a bit racist 🙈.) Is it difficult to find a good job and to get employed there?
iyadart
iyadart 2 ай бұрын
@Liesel Meminger Generally speaking, Japanese people are very subtle in expressing their emotions or opinions. While discrimination and prejudice do exist, they often go unnoticed, flying under your radar 99% of the time. This is why tourists or short-term visitors to Japan often fall in love with the country. However, once you live there long enough, you start to connect the dots and read between the lines. The main issue is not with Japanese people themselves, but rather with Japanese corporate culture, which places a heavy emphasis on hierarchy. Moreover, Japan is a homogenous society, so no matter what you do, you will always stand out as a foreigner. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that most Japanese people don't speak English at all. As a result, potential employers may be hesitant to hire foreigners, fearing that they might disrupt the corporate harmony by introducing a different culture and perspective. Consequently, your job options may be limited to what we call "White Monkey Jobs" which include fields like English teaching, modeling, marketing, or other positions that symbolize corporate prestige and international status. Based on my experience, I would advise against pursuing a career in Japan. It took me years to realize this, as I had initially assumed my own incompetence was the reason for being rejected from job positions in Japan. However, I now earn my income by working remotely with reputable clients overseas, holding high-level positions. Thus, I am certain that my career being stifled in Japan had nothing to do with my skills or qualifications. One interesting way to understand Japanese society is by exploring the "politeness theory," particularly the concept of "negative politeness." I highly recommend reading the article on Wikipedia, and there is also a paper titled "THE APPLICATION OF POLITENESS THEORY INTO ENGLISH EDUCATION IN JAPAN," which is available to read for free online.

One can tell that on the top of the list there are many EU countries passports. A good amount of that usability “power” of the passport comes from the travel ability in EU. What surprised me was how high on the list the UK passport still is after Brexit I wander if that will change over time.

It's not really the NUMBER of visas-free destinations that matters but rather the quality of living in those destinations. In addition, some countries that are parts of some sort of unions (ex. E.U., ECOWAS) accept visitors from member-states without even a passport.

As a South African I can only say we're on a downward trend, we used to be able to go visa-free to more countries but corruption in the Department of Home Affairs, which issues South African passports has become so severe that countries have become scared of a South African passport. Republic of Ireland is now the only European country we can still visit visa free. The rest are mostly African countries, Latin America and south east Asia.
