This was a good race Considering these buses aren't designed for racing and the drivers are shifting gears while going round corners steering one handed . These are ex London transport Daimler Fleetlines on either park royal or metro cammel weyman bodies What type of vehicle did your dad race when he wasn't racing buses ?

@@Fcutdlady thank you! No he owed his own coach company at the time. He had never raced before but has always been an amazing driver. He had previously been a London bus driver so had a good understanding of how these vehicles handled.

I was there..I really enjoyed it. Due to the editing of the video they fail to show me in the lead in No 4. On the original my name was mentioned on live from World of Sport. We prepared the buses at Ensign and I prepared mine.. I was the Engine mechanic there and ungoverned the DPA pump on my bus so it went like shit. Nobody could have touched me on that circuit. .I was first for the first two laps, leaving them all in the dust. Then I had to obey orders of this totally fixed race? The Rally driver had to give an exiting race with his camera, It was all a con..Wasnt a race at all. It was sponsored by Acorn Computers. Never take what you see on TV as real..I learned that after that race. Terry Knights 1 day ago Yes I agree with Chris Crittchet it was fixed and the three with the Acorn computer banners were supposed to come in the first three places. Good fun nevertheless and I get a mention right at the very end as Terry Knights.

@@EaterOfCheesejust rewatching some of the Monty pythons flying circus episodes and this resembles so much Idle’s diction that is so typical of his. They did serval skits with enthusiastic commentary on the show like this. Especially the skit with the famous painters bike race! „ITS KANDINSKY!!!“ The music at the end of this clip is also very Pythonesque as well 😂 just listen to the happy, dancy,slightly dumwhitted soundscape they were always using as satiric comedic effect! They used this kind of Light Music a lot. Short orchestral pieces and suites. Very popular around the 50s and 60s in the UK. Musical part of Monty python is often underestimated or at least not recognized enough. Though that’s just my feeling. Correct me if I’m wrong, please! Anyway, still not sure if it is really Idle. Is there any proof? Well, doubledecker racing track seems about right for MP😄

There is one thing I've observed in this clip and once you see it you cannot unsee it. Whoever stuck the numbers on the windscreen placed the number 2 upside down. It looks rubbish that way up. I guess once it was placed that way up it wasn't easy to change it to be the right way up, or perhaps nobody noticed.

the buses are former London Transport DMS type which by then had been sold to Ensign of Purfleet ironically these buses would end up being put back into service on LT routes 165/252/365 under contract to Ensigh in 1988 at the time of deregulation. How well I remember it.

World of Sport was so much better than Grandstand. Ok, technically a lot of it wasn't sport as we know it, but bus racing, demolition derbys, speedway, darts, Evel Kneivel and the wrestling plus On The Ball and I was set for the afternoon.
