I feel like a "taste" is different froma "hobby" most hobbies are expensive, you need materials to support it. For example: I'm a dude working at a factory in a third world country, I live in a room shared with my brother, I know hunger and my room gets too warm in summer and too cold in winter... but you know what I have? an Ipad to do digital art because I love art, I have imported comic books, art books and illustrations made by artists I admire because I love it, I play videogames even tho they're a luxury overe here... it's part of the hobby and I still know how to save money. Despite that, I can safely say that I don't have expensive tastes, everything else in my life is modest and I'm comfortable that way.

@@Peppered_Spores That isn't unusual for the horde, though. In Warcraft 3, Reign of Chaos (not even the expansion, the base game) the final mission has the horde allying with the humans and night elves to stop Archimonde. Its been a thing since the beginning, at least as early as 2002. This was long before the events of World of Warcraft and Thrall obviously remembers that sometimes the combined strength of all Azeroth is required to save it from annihilation (he was there when Archimonde almost destroyed Azeroth). It isn't so much of a peace as it is a cease fire while they deal with a much more powerful threat than either faction is on their own.

I was one of those goofy folks that was raised on the old depression-era radio programs even though it was half a century before my time. The thing that always stuck out to me is that the pillars of entertainment and comedy like Jack Benny, Abbott and Costello, Benny Goodman etc? They all had advertisers, they were all sponsored, but they always made them entertaining. Fifty years after their programs were recorded, it's still fun to listen to them talk about Lucky Strike or Pepsodent because they made it into a skit, a play or a bit. That's what I think a lot of modern KZbinrs don't consider when they take the payday and just read whatever was given to them. If it's dry, if it's just a straight ad, then it tremendously dates their media. If I watch a video a decade from now, will I be cringing at a creator waxing lyrical about Raid: Shadow Legends? I appreciate you caring about the way your videos will be viewed in the future, Josh.

Love your content and this video! I respect your dedication to keep to your ideals and viewpoints 🙂 You mentioned that sponsorships in videos are effectively permanent adverts. If so, do you feel it would be appropriate to take previously sponsored videos when a related company shifts their ethics/stance? Or should the videos remain uploaded, as they could be considered a 'snapshot' in time, rather than a continuing reflection of a content creator's support for a company? I find that to be an interesting situation, as there's always a risk in associating with a sponsorship. That's especially true if the sponsorship spans across a library of videos over several years.

Blizzard has done a much better job as of late with WoW. Both retail and Classic’s reception have been largely positive from the player base. I have been enjoying the game quite a lot and would love to see you cover it in the future. That time is not now though. The major glaring issue the game still has is its new player experience, which has been severely lacking as most of Blizzards resources have been spent fixing the end game issues that plagued the game for the last several expansions. Their solutions have largely been successful as retention rates are the highest they’ve been in years. I’m excited to see what the current wow team will do to revitalize the new player experience, (they’ve already said it’s on their to do list) and when it does, I would love to see your honest thoughts on how the game feels.

If a streamer / content-creator is able to foster a good-enough salary based on genuine content, that seems to be a far more sustainable position than the feast-famine-retire cycle that others fall into. As a FFXIV player, and without naming names, streamers that feasted on the post-Asmongold / Shadowbringers-Endwalker MSQ playthroughs had public meltdowns about how badly their revenue tanked after MSQ ended. Far better to embrace whatever it is that you and your community have organically built, in my ignorant opinion.

I have a odd question... What is Josh's second monitor content that he watches while he streams? I mean, how unique would it be to see Josh stream, and at the same time randomly react to a video he's watching on the side...

I honestly think this is commendable, and he's right, sure he won't get sponsership dollars, but he has something more important. His word and a loyal base that sticks it out with him. Integrity is such a thin word in todays age sadly.

I have to wonder if the amount of 0s in the contract are what stands behind a lot of content creators saying The War Within Alpha is good. Don't get me wrong, I want it to be good because the delves appear to be good content for solo/duos, and that's something I'd like to do.

Think about which creators are saying it is good, and think about what those creators have said before about the game. If we are talking about Bellular, Asmon, Tali, Preach, these are all people who have been critical of Blizz in the past and would not lie for $$$. You know Bell wouldn't, he stakes too much reputation on it. All of them do.

@@eboethrasher I do agree with what you are saying. I do think though that being 100% unbiased when a lot of money is involved is not the easiest thing. Hats off to them if they can do it though. I have friends in WOW I'd like to do things with again, and if the new expansion is actually good, I would have something to gain. I just hope it will actually be that way.

Reminds me of how Asmongold on Twitch doesn't run ads on his alt account which he's been using instead of his main because he hates ads, but xQc was getting angry with him for not taking "free money" because xQc is at a point where he's sees his community as just money and doesn't stand for his reasons even though he's an 8 figure Twitch streamer that could retire and do content he wants whenever.

This mentality of not budging on your values is very respectable in my opinion. So few content creators are this adamant on not budging on their values for money and only make sponsorship deals with companies they actually recommend, it's refreshing to see.

There's a lot of value in only promoting products you personally believe in. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, whenever I see a Raid Shadow legends ad I will immediately disregard the authenticity of any and all other promotions by that content creator.

A lot of sponsorships will test the content creator on how well they can lie about a product, especially the ones that mandate the creator to play them. Really dislike that behavior, but at least Raid doesn't make their creators actually play the crap.

I generally don't care, as long as you're not telling people to gamble their life savings or join a pyramid scheme. It's a crappy mobile game, anyone who's seen thirty seconds of footage can see that. They don't even really use misleading advertising (showing gameplay that doesn't exist) from what I've seen, you can see the game is garbage right there.

I've followed you for a while and remember when you decided you were no longer making WoW content, and I completely understand where you're coming from. But with that being said I will also say that WoW is in a MUCH better place now then it was when you wrote it off, and you really might be pleasantly surprised with what you find. I get that Blizz and corporations can be lame, but don't let that inevitability prevent you from appreciating a great game that is being made by such an incredibly passionate and caring dev team. WoW isn't bad anymore!

I was watching the Adams family values with my kids that I recorded from free to air tv on VHS (yes I still have a VHS player) way back in the 90's and an ad for KFC chicken loopies came on and man did that take me way back to 10 yr old me 😂
