Ya know it’s funny, but I feel like not being able to see the enemy team in a more competitive mode like Ranked would actually make things more interesting. You have no idea what ships you’re facing until you or your team lay eyes on them, and then they appear on the enemy team list. It would force you to adapt strategy on the fly.

Not knowing what you face doesn't mean you would be forced to adapt, it means people would have to play super passive or get obliterated. You're adding game impact to destroyers and carriers who already have the highest game impact on the game while stripping it from the classes who have the least. Not knowing which ships are on the enemy team means you can't preplan your positioning. It's like people asking to buff secondary battleships because they are less viable until you realize that would make people run it down non stop to use the secondaries, thus dying very fast and using their secondaries less. There's a difference between what you think would happen and what would actually happen. You probably should think your ideas a bit more... This is reddit material.

@@connycontainer9459 in ranked games, you must perform well (for the most part, highest score) on your team or win the match to progress to the next "tier". It appeared that our stars team was going to lose, hence why the team mate was asking if the enemy team was trying to help him "save his star" by feeding him damage/kills (Thus becoming the best performing player on his team, even if he lost, he'd still make progress to the next tier of ranked battles)

also in ranked its nearly always better if the whole team focuses hard on one side and easily destroys their opponents on that flank with their numbers advantage. While at a cap disadvantage early on you then can use your numbers advantage to just win the game after having won the flank you focused early.

@@n1c3s43 yep usually works out great. Unless there is a pesky DD on that flank that manages to dev strike a big BB on that team, and then run away. Suddenly that team is two caps down, and a ship down...

@@varanzmaj even then, most of the time it's not just one DD on the flank. If the opponent has a cruiser there or another BB in the end you trade your BB for the cruiser or BB. Not that bad and still winnable. The bigger Problem are the dumb players who instantly panic at the prospect of abandoning a flank and then continue to solo contest the flank everyone else concedes only to give first blood and achieve absolutely nothing. After that they will then go mental in chat about how the team is playing bad and "it was lost anyway blablaba". Meanwhile the game is only lost because of them suiciding like the idiots they are, self fulfilling prophecy style. I haven't lost a single game where everyone committed to push one flank, I lost a ton of games where one player went off to do their own thing for no reason after everyone else agreed to the push.

For everyone who needs a spoiler, North won because his team fulfilled one of the criterias for game_end which is eliminating all enemy ships. The only other criterias as a) team reaches 1000 points, b) game time is completed at which point team with most points wins, c) both teams have same amount of points when time is up or d) both teams lose their last ships at the same time. Options a and b lead to the team winning, c and d lead to a tie (rare, but not impossible). In this case, the time between loss of the final ships on either side is not close enough to warrant a tie (it usually only happens in a ram by two similar ships on similar hp hitting head on). Tldr; North won

Option D does NOT end in a tie *unless* the points are also tied. If the last two ships die at the same time, the win goes to whichever team had the most points at the time of death. We know WG's servers tick very slow, so it is definitely a possibility that the game thought they killed each other at the same time. If that's the case, North would lose because the enemy team was ahead on points. If the servers decide the Tirpitz died first, then North wins.

A sustained gunfight is when the fight is drawn out over a longer period of time, usually half the battle or more. If both ships are full health, a Benson will always beat an Asashio in a 1v1 gunfight to the death, But a good Asashio will draw the fight out over a period of time and use their concealment to always get the first shot off, shoot when the Benson is looking somewhere else, and slowly chunk them down over several minutes of popping up, hitting a salvo or two and then fucking off for a while, rise and repeat. In that situation an Asashio will beat a Benson every single time

Jingles, in both WoW on pc and WoW Legends, the game mechanics are still active for about a half second after the end of the match. The game actually ended when the Tirpitz was destroyed! Meaning, the King in the north won!!!

No, that was a draw due to both sides dead. If you explode, you are dead and with both sides dead, there cannot be a winner. It was really tight though... there's only like a quarter second window where that can happen. If either ship had fired a fraction later, the match would have had a winner.

It just seems as if it was me playing, undecisively trying to do everything at the same time and failing at it. Yet, I rarely get the throwing teams as enemies... The first team to lose every ships loses, regardless of the score, even if the other dies as well a fraction of a second later.

pretty sure he didn't if the old win/lose formula WG put out back in beta still holds, the game first looks at kills, then points. thing is the game did not end until king died. so that registered. which means it would then look at points. which the Tirpitz had. Fairly sure this wasn't a throw.

While unsatisfactory, that game ended in something quite rare.. a ranked draw. The moment one side wins, everything stops, but that check is only done a few times per second, so there is a very brief moment where one side is defeated and the winner isn't yet declared.. but when that moment passes and all ships are then counted as dead... it's a draw. And in a draw, everyone loses.

I see a lot of DD players do what that Benson did, they get so focused on blocking a cap that they give up all their advantages, torpedoes, stealth, speed. Sure he blocked it but it was doing no one any good that way and with a Mass sitting there the other BB was never going to cap. The Enemy BB did a similar mistake and pinned himself to the island. There are more ways than getting destroyed to take yourself out of battle. Being driven to the map edge, stuck behind an island, zoned out from the caps. As a DD you get in and you get out, getting stuck in is never an option, cruisers it's very situational, and BBs it's a wash. The core decision with getting stuck in though is that you have to be able to take the other guy. It's like calling in spades.

Had a similar experience only a few days ago. Both of us died within seconds of each other .... and my team won on points so I would guess the same for Dakinginthenorth. Can't understand the Tirpitz captain's logic if he had any. If he had just done a 180 and kept the island between him and the Mass for a few more seconds.

Everytime Jingles points out that the replay is bugged, I try to guess what ships are on the enemy team by looking at the silhouettes. Not the best go around this time, as I thought the Tirpitz was something British; but I was correct on there being a Benson as well as a Japanese DD, CA and BB even if I did pick the wrong ones

The Germans purposely made their ship silhouettes look alike. During the Battle of the Denmark Strait the British opened fire on the lead ship which they assumed was Bismarck. It wasn't, Prinz Eugen was leading due to Bismarck's forward radar being inoperative. Hood wasted its opening salvos on the wrong ship.
