I have a habit of looking up ship names that I can't pronounce. Often, ships are named after important events, places or people, and it's a basic matter of respect trying to pronounce them correctly when talking about them.

I remember looking at this exact ship on pc version and thought- "Woah, that looks like a solid battleship." The size and german design really made me see her as a larger Scharnhorst.

Ah yeah, I was testing a stealth build. My team had completely died, and you were capping, so I was going for the "honourable death, let's see if I can take 'em with me" approach. I am currently running the ship with Advanced Engine as an elite bonus. Then I am using Propulsion Modification in Slot 2 and Steering gear modification in Slot 3. With this build she does about 35 knots with excellent acceleration and it is very useful for island hopping or fleeing away from battleships. For Slot 1, I couldn't decide between Air Strike Modfication 1 & Main Battery Modification 1 (because her main battery traverse speed is very slow. Incase of close combat with light cruisers and destroyers, it takes a lot of time to get the guns around).

Yeah, I'm still experimenting with different builds. I think with this ship, there are quite a few options due to the airstrike mechanic, and it'll depend on how people want to play - you could also do a full AA build and division up with a CV...

Hey Terry, thanks for another helpful abd informative review! I know your playstyle is a more of an aggressive type, so is mine. But for this ship, when you’re against battleship it’s actually more efficient to airstrike them rather than bombarding them with guns. The main targets of her main battery are cruisers. You could hit battleships when their turrets are not towards you though. But you’d better stay in cover (until you’re stealth) when they’re targeting you. In addition, after playing over 300 battles with the Johan DeWitt and 50 battles with the Gouden Leeuw, I now come to a realization that her natural ememy is the destroyers, since she doesn’t have any effctive way against DDs, like torps and secondaries. Any regular DD player could rush a GL. What’s more horrible being, she usually stays in covers ( mountains/islands), that means your cover now becomes the cover of enemy destroyers as well! Even if she could spot the DDs with the planes she can hardly run away form them.

Besides, though lack of range and accuracy, her main guns are actually pretty punchy for this caliber after applying the APCS skill.

The thing is, I get bored easily. I can't sit behind and island all day and drop airstrikes on fools once a minute. Guns exist, ergo I use them :) But you do have a point, playing against BBs, she's better off staying in cover.

I’m kinda struggling with the tier 6 ship but finally, I’m excited for this. Air strikes and Scharnhorsts guns make this thing pretty fun to say the least

I got Haarlem already. Concealment on these ships IMO helps a lot. I have been able to kite from bbs and win because I just bomb them.

I haven’t gotten to the tier 10 yet but I honestly think having propulsion in the second slot, concealment in the third and have the engine buff elite mod will give you the propulsion to dodge shells since you are not likely to out turn shells

Does this line have an entirely brand new blueprint to upgrade that airstrike skill, or does it just use the existing dive bomber blueprint? Looks like a really frustrating ship to play with considering how people usually play in higher tiers. If I were to play with the ship I would stack all upgrades to acceleration and speed. ~6s difference to strike cooldown is not attractive enough for me so I would choose to install a gun dispersion upgrade instead in slot 1.

It is the existing dive bomber blueprint. Funny point, currently you can't use this line of ship for the mission of dive bomber. 😂 If you can, don't play with the T5 because this ship have nothing. T7 unlock after play only in resapaw with the T6. That's fun a T7 and not so easy to play.

I want to finish the IJN CA line next, but not touching that or the IJN BBs until the turret bug is fixed. Started grinding the RM BBs instead. The Dutch cruisers aren't the most powerful, but I have to say I'm enjoying the mechanic, it makes for some interesting games, and that they're not 15km ranged snipers that can't move.

Hey terry! It's another video request 😅. Can we please have a video about Dreadnought class ships and how they changed the naval doctrines all over the world? I mean the historical shift in naval power that began classifying the battleships as pre dreadnough and dreadnought type battleships prior to world war I. And also include the ottoman navy ships. It's a historical video request completely away from the world of warships blitz or any games. (Of course game footage will make it all the loads better 😅😅)

I'm not 100% sure, I've seen reports that the spotting is bugged and you can actually spot without even launching the planes, but they should, in theory, work just like any other planes.

Gouden Leevu has a chink in her armour. She can't protect herself against destroyers that rushes towards her. All cruisers have either secondary guns or torpedo tubes for close quarters engagement or fast traversing main battery armament (Worcester). She has airstrikes but it's not effective against destroyers. Moreover, if destroyers cross the minimum airstrike range, then game over. If your guns are firing in Port side and if a destroyer rushes you in starboard side, the ship is a sitting duck 🦆. With slow turn time, long reload and slow main battery traverse speed, she perfect target for destroyers. Moral: always stay with teammates.

compared to the lower tier most Heavy cruiser in tier X lose their effectiveness against DD , but everybody else become more effective against cruiser. thats also problem

@@Failure_Engineering atleast in other heavy cruisers like Hindenburg, you get torpedoes that acts as a deterrent. Des Moines has secondaries, Venezia has torpedoes and her guns loaded with SAP traverse quickly. But, in Gouden Leevu, there is nothing against destroyers other than slow turning main battery.

Yep, that's very true. DDs are definitely an issue, as you said, the airstrikes aren't effective at all, and the HE is a bit lacklustre. The best thing you can do is hit them with AP at long range, or generally avoid. Which can be challenging, given that this is an aggressive flanker :)
