We've come to the top tier of the new German battlecruiser line, the Schlieffen. Now that Yamatos, Vermonts and Colombos are all but guaranteed, is it worth the grind?

Ahh, now I know what the German high command meant by the "Schlieffen Plan"! It was about using a battleship to outflank the French army! There must've been a river with a really deep channel that went right through the German/French border. BTW, it's not that they lopped off a little of the barrels to reduce the caliber. Warship gun "caliber" was a ratio of shell diameter to barrel length. So by boring out the barrels to increase the shell diameter, it also changed the shell to barrel length ratio.

If they had gotten that thing into secondary range, the war would have gone pretty differently... Good that they never built it.

Finally ground my way up the German BC line up to the Schlieffen - I absolutely loved the Rupprecht, and the first few games with the Schlieffen suggest I’ll enjoy this one as well. A secondary + concealment definitely seems to work best for me so far. The 150mm angles do mean you have to show a bit more flank at times than you’d like, but it is a very opportunistic ship to play - the burst damage you can do with it is phenomenal, but ideally you want to stay unspotted until you can get close enough to maximise its effect. I’ve already brawled ships like the Colombo and Mecklenburg, and while the latter was a bit closer the CC just melted from the sheer volume of mains, secondaries and torpedos raining damage on him. One-on-one the Schlieffen is incredibly dangerous, but it is true that there are games where you have to be a bit more cautious and stay back, or stay behind islands to avoid long range snipers. As for the German battlecruiser line more broadly, the Mackensen, Heinrich, Rupprecht and Schlieffen are all phenomenal ships that I’ve enjoyed a lot. The less said about the Zieten the better.

Yep I'm going for it that looks absolutely fun especially with the torpedoes if you manage to surprise a Battleship that are not aware this will be a monster against them especially against casual players ;)

Absolutely. Over time, people will start realising that these things have torps, but it'll still be a surprise for many. I just wish the auto-secondaries would be a tad more accurate, they really only work against targets on a parallel course, but at range can manage to completely miss even a Yamato.

The Schlieffen plan was in World War 1. The Maginot line was built between the wars. It didn't exist during the first war.

Personally I prefer the improve rudder instead of the concealment build I think it has more utility through the battle I helps you to deal with incoming torpedos and if you are skilled enough you can actually dodge Montana, Ohio and Vermont salvos since american shells have significantly more travel time than other nations shells. I see your point with the concealment built but in tier X battles it doesn't help you a lot whenever you are playing against carriers. PD: I would love if you could take a look at my comment on your bot video early this week :)

I sometimes wonder if range has more to do with accuracy. That range moves accuracy rings (close, medium, long)

Yes, it does - the further you shoot, the larger the target ellipsis. But it's not uniform, different ships have different precision, and modules, skills and camos can reduce the size further. Also, sigma ratings are different for distribution inside the ellipsis.

The German battlecruiser line isn't out yet, that's why you can't see it in the tech tree. Very different ship from Kremlin, it's secondary focused.

They're both good choices. Generalist can help against CVs or HE spammers, but I have to admit I find myself increasingly facing DDs in high-tier games without cruiser support.
