There's a new premium ship out (of course), and it's a tier 9 (of course), and you've been rather curious about her, so here's my take on the "Jean Bart".

Richelieu is a strong tier 8. If she didn't exist, Jean Bart would probably be an ok tier 9, but if I had the choice between the two, I'd go with the Richelieu.

For me the Alsace is the tier 9 Richelieu. The armor is too soft and the firing angles are pretty bad for the third turret, so 90 percent of the time I just bow in and use the front only. For these guns I find that anything farther than 8km you're better off just sticking to HE, switch to AP when ships are inside 8km.

The HE does about 1k alpha, so you won't do too much damage with them, but might be worth getting a fire or two on someone who has damage control on cooldown. My impression with AP shells is that there's an "immunity zone" (that's a real thing, I don't mean they don't do any damage at all in-game, but reduced) on ranges where you're more likely to hit the belt. Get close enough, and the penetration makes up for the poorer angles, get far away enough, and the plunging shells have a better chance of going through the deck. My main reason for using AP/HE switches relatively rarely on BBs is that it requires you to have a target available at the time you make the choice, and that target remaining the most viable one. I.e. you're loading HE to take ranged shots at BBs, just to have a light cruiser popping up fully broadside :)

@@FunandGameswithTerry I hear what you're saying about a light cruiser popping up and not have the opportunity to punish it with AP. After a few games where I fire only HE or only AP, my average HE damage with fires is about 820, but the AP only about 911 per shell. Also at tier 9 and 10 it's very seldom that light cruisers will pop up close enough to me for the AP and at full range they are very hard to hit with the dispersion of these guns. I find DDs popping up more often at close enough range where the HE is very effective.

Fair point - I'm using HE quite a bit on IJN BBs. I'll have to do the math, taking fires into account, given that HE gets you semi-pens at best, unless you're in a RN BB.

Richelieu is a God in tier 8. Jean Bart is a tier 9, even though it’s exactly the same ship as the Richelieu(in things that matter). - In other words: Good luck fighting vs tier 10 as tier 8, Jean Bart 😘

It's the devilry in tier 9. You get into tier 10 games, while tier 8 gets into tier 7 games. Most 9s are quite underpowered when they're bottom tier. One of my favorite T9s is the Neptune. Haven't played DDs at that tier yet, but I imagine it would work quite well. BBs, on the other hand, suffer - just look at the gun calibres you get in tier 10.

Fun and games with Terry The Neptune will be my next unlock as well. It seems like a robust and good ship. I’m not much of a DD player myself, even though they are pretty strong in T9/10 - I do like to play them, but it seems like there is always an abundance of DD players. Cruisers have always been my true love and I love German and Italien cruisers in general. Keep up the great work, Terry ❤️

I've been wondering if we could do successful secondary builds of USN BBs, but the 127mm DD guns usually don't have the range. Maybe Massa would be a different ship, given that she'd be a tier 8 premium, just as Alabama is very unlike the tree ships with her sniper setup.

I can say about T9 bbs are really hard to use against T10 i got the alsace and i play it like the Richilieu but its still hard even im bow in to the enemy

T9 is a tricky tier for BBs, due to the severe upgunning T10 ships get, and the often ranged meta at top tiers. Haven't played T9 DD, but for cruisers, it's not so bad.

You make a great point. About it struggling with tier ten ships. I still would like to get her. But I can't go spending a bunch of money on crates and not win the ship. I'd recommend the deck protection mod in slot 2 for fewer fires, even though that means sacrificing the propulsion module, plus a full secondary build (both captain and slot 1). The key to success in this ship is to know when to push. You don't want to "go" until the enemy team has been spotted. Her preferred engagement range is secondary range, so if you're fighting a BB, get close enough for your secondaries to open up. Also, once you're moving, don't stop. Your best bet against DDs is to do a full turn, run, and use your secondaries. On occasion, if you're full health, you can take a torpedo spread, as long as you're close enough to shred the DD before they can reload.

why is it useless to use speed boost before full speed? it doesn't affect acceleration? i've always wondered about this on bbs i usually use it when i get to 18-20 knots. i feel it reaches top speed faster, and maintains it for enough time to get into position

Speed boost affects top speed only, not acceleration. Using the speed boost before you're at top speed won't get you to top speed any quicker.

I haven't looked it up, but I think the boost doesn't affect acceleration. On PC it does, AFAIK, but in Blitz I think it just increases your top speed.

Sorry, I'm only at the Nagato in the IJN BB line, so by my personal rules, I won't play tech tree ships on the press account that I haven't unlocked in my personal. I'll have to check if I have the Musashi in my press account... from the numbers, she's quite similar to the Yama, but has absolutely no AA for that tier, and is lacking the precise aim.

And it's French. And tier 9. And the HE is pretty poor :) There are a couple of front-firing ships out there - Dunkerque, Richelieu, Jean Bart, Nelson, Lenin... they offer some interesting tactical opportunities, like bow-in holding a position down
