World of Warships Blitz - Spanish cruiser "Canarias" review

This is the first Spanish ship in the game, so naturally, I was curious to see what kind of special gimmick the Spanish might get. Well, turns out it's a modified County Class, but some things appear to be missing...

If I remember correctly, Spanish Navy ships had their flags painted everywhere so that Allied and/or Axis ships will recognize them as a neutral ship (since Spain was a neutral nation during WW2, but not really because their leader at the time was very good friends with Germany)

Yeah, without Hitler, Franco would've failed. The Spanish Civil War was practically a proxy war between two primary ideologies: Germany's fascism and the Soviet Union's communism.

As a spanish at this time spain was under Franco dictatorial statement.. and well know fascist side... Nice review and yes is in some way to say we are nationalist sided... for me a nasty add to this game..

There are a couple of key calculations. First, I knew he was coming, without spotting him, just from the map layout and spawns, that area is key to hold, otherwise it's easy to lose the map (as demonstrated in the second battle). So I already had the mental advantage. Then it's a game of nerves. He can either rush, drop, or run. If he rushes, he's dead - I'll simply kite away. If he drops, he's dead. A drop executed like that, fully broadside, without feint, combined with T5, 100% along the aiming cone, which means I can simply accel out of it. There are ways of dealing with cruisers when you're in a DD, and the best is to be elsewhere, or to lure them into BB fire. I feel mildly bad for doing this to lower tiers, but I hope it helps them learn. Just wait for the Dante video on Saturday...

So far its been a decent ship. Have lived in the Colombo for a while now due to damage/gun damage challenges, and its totally my high damage ship!!! But Ive so far had fun in Canarias, and your reveiw helps make its faults and perks make sense. Great vid as always!!👍

About the Tier VI cruisers aside of the Aoba, you forgot the Pensacola and Graf Spee 🤔

Yeah, Pensa is there as well. Spee is a pocket battleship. Pensacola has the higher damage output, but not quite the same map control utility as this one. Can be very situational, some games to do relatively little, other games you do 70k.

To be entirely honest….I saw this ship and was pretty happy to see The Spaniards making there way in, now not so much. It’s like the Leander and the Pensacola had a baby

It doesn't have to be representative of a future Spanish line. Remember the early Italians, they had nothing to do with the tech trees (no SAP, no fuel smokes)

Fast ships tend to turn a bit worse, length-to-beam ratio. It's doable, but you need to keep an eye on positioning.

I can't even remember if I ever tried that ship, and if I did, it was a very long time ago. I'd be wary of T9 matchmaking, but would have to test-play that one for a while to give you a more balanced opinion.

It's not a great ship. The dpm is low, and she's pretty useless against BBs. It's the utility that I like - she can switch flanks pretty rapidly, and intercept light cruisers or DDs, which isn't a bad thing to have in T6. Situational ship, but not completely useless.

So you don’t believe it to be a awful ship? I thought an still think it to a worthless premium ship. Noticed u didn’t compare the Pensacola to the Canarias, which I think if your comparing T6 heavy cruisers it has to be compared against the Pensacola. They both don’t have torpedos “which is a big deal” no matter the range. If you do compare the two you notice just how bad the Canaries is. I’m not sure in what situation/ship comp this would be a viable option. I’m sure some people can do well with it but when u have a tech tree ship that beats it on AP damage which is it’s only option. Cons just out weigh pros here.

Honestly i dont like this ship. Very similar to existing ships with the only difference that costs real money. Also Pepsi is better

Her damage output is low, and she's a niche ship to a degree. Pretty useless against BBs, but can work against DDs, and has the utility and speed to be where needed and hammer light cruisers. Great ship? No. But not as bad as it looks on paper imo.
