Her torpedoes are actually really exceptional with the only problem being their speed is awful. Anything with hydro ought to not struggle to dodge them (That being said I've seen people spot them with hydro and literally turn into them massively overestimating their speed.) Other than that they hit really hard and they got excellent range, quite stealthy to but the reaction time to them is the exact same as Hallands. Frequently just throwing them out you end up hitting things you don't expect. 3 years later.

Yes Black is good. But! but... it's not OP like so many players think it is... maybe not their fault since it's rep was built up by it's scarcity and absence from the armory. Black works best in a division or a team that works together (I know ...so rare these days). As ranked solo carry kind of ship, something like a Kita or Friesland is more suited to that kind of role. The best carry DDs have great guns so that is reliable damage where as torpedos often require luck combined with skill or at least potatoes on the other side. This is even more true from Black's 42 knots sea mines that hit hard but usually only once they have been launched 3 games before and forgotten about by everybody. As for the guns, the DPM is adequate, but those where's the parachute firing arcs really get in the way of dealing significant damage to larger ships. While Friesland with it's pyromaniacal tendencies and Kitakaze with its "yeah that makes sense" 30mm pen, large ships will seek cover, but Black has neither since it's 26mm pen even with IFHE makes it a worse skill, and its 5% fire chance requires first born offerings to the RNGesus collection plate to get a perma fire. In short, Black is fun for it's "I see you but you don't see me" party trick but past that it's a Fletcher with luck based torps that it's DD gunboat license expired 4 years ago. That said, it's a hell of a party trick AND if your team can take advantage of it, it can often make sure you are on the right side of steamroll that is WOWS in 2022....

And not just ANY "smokescreen" AMERICAN MADE US NAVY SMOKESCREENS! They last forever and deploy for a long time, add the Radar on top of it AND its a Fletcher (not that iv played the fletcher yet, need more credits), The Black is a CAP BULLY for sure! Plus id say the radar also playing into US DDs being "escorts" screening your Cruisers and Battleships from enemy destroyers. Once i build up the coal supply im definitely picking her up.

Black is a lot less powerful than she used to be even though she is still strong. Though American smoke is good for Allies, it is not good for yourself because it bounds you to stay forever at the same position and have long reload time. It think pan Asian smoke is much better but you can’t do smoke+radar Chung Mu. Also slowest torps in the game

I waited and saved all my coal for two years specifically for getting this ship and she's been well worth it. I bought her via coupon for coal at the very end of last season of ranked. The result: six battles, five wins to close out my ranked season. One thing I did was to have a DD or cruiser teammate with me into the cap, I wait to get to get spotted by the DD, they panic smoke up in front of me, I radar them only for them to run away or get deleted by me or the team. Whenever I am a USS Black, do enemy DDs realize that that I have radar? I mean they often smoke up in front of me only to get radar'd the second they do smoke up. Black is well worth getting, specially for competitive.

Well players seeing a black on the team knows that it can equip radar and can predict you have it, but they will not know your specific loadout that match until you use it on them. They also do not know which side of the map you spawned on, so they do not know if they have to deal with a Black on their flank/cap

Also, Black hasn't been so popular in Randoms up until they reintroduced it in the armory, she wasn't sold for a long time. It's normal that newer players never seen the Balck before, so they don't know what consumables it has

I’ve had the Black since it was a ranked reward in the old format, and while DD is my favourite class, I never really loved playing her. Obviously the radar-smoke is a strong DD brawl/contesting tool, but that is really the major upside. Often it can make her feel like a one trick pony. The torps are somewhat unreliable due being really slow (like mentioned, can result in low damage numbers). If facing a good DD player, they can minimize the efficiency of your radar, just something to have in mind. Great for ranked if you just grinding stars though

All Fletcher Class DD’s came with both surface and air radar from the get-go. All Fletchers in game should as well.

...and hydro and radar should be line of sight, but they aren't. And subs should only go 9 knots under water... but they don't. And CV's should burn and be permanently D-planed...... but they don't. And planes and ships shouldn't team spot...but they do. All DD's should be able to hydro subs... but they can't. All DD's and CV's should be a strong counter to subs... but only non premium BB's and a hand full of air supported cruisers are, instead....

So did other destroyers even the Japanese ones which is typically used Type 21 surface search and Type 13 air search radar and not a single IJN DD has hydro or radar because that is not how it work in the game ...

@@Hydra360ci well no most cv's except Japan had the best fire conrl systems of any fleet they'd be the least likely to catch fire and if they did it'd be put out very quickly and on the other half if you want them to only carry they're real life amount then they'd have well over 100 planes with no cool down and multiple flights at any given time.

I have the coal and pretty much every coal ship I need. I am thinking of getting Black. My other option was gonna be Marceau but I'm not a big run and gun boat fan. So I'll be using my 300k coal on Black. Glad you made a video on this to give me the courage to purchase it.

I have Marceau, i have f sherman. i have flecher too! The past two years i play only dds , so i can understand that this ship is a flecher with worst torpedos and radar, i suggest you to get marceau and try to be good at it, you will never regret that! after i got marceau i go straight to get kleber that in my opinion is the best ship in wow! first get marceau and then get black in the future or by getting coal during cristmas( every t5+ ship get for one win +50 coal if i remember correct) + use the coupon! marceau is out for a while so will be the first that will been removed! black is new and will be out for a while. (i used to have that fear too! how i will play a dd without smoke? the start is a bit hard but, trust me, french dds are addiction without come back!)

As my friend here already said: Marceau is a Top ship. She and Kleber are definitely Top DDs atm and you cant go wrong with her. Also works as a Torpboat/Gunboat Hybrid

You won't regret teh Moskva. Get the lengendary mod (research points) and put the radar upgrade on it. You will find it to be one of the most consistant CAs in the game.

Not really a fan of US DD especially those with 127 mm gun with low velocity. The only one i really like is the F.Sherman because for some reason the shell trajectory is very flat for a small caliber gun.

What mr Andrew means is that Sherman (and Austin) guns have flat trajectories because the barrel is a lot longer Caliber has nothing to do with the arcs in this game, for example Goliath has 234mm guns yet it has a lot of air drag, each nation have their own shell velocity type and the Americans have the orbital ones

If the speed of the shell determines the shell arc then why the IJN Type 98 100 mm gun which has 1000 m/s of shell velocity due to its very long gun barrel and possibly the fastest shell of any naval gun in the game and yet has higher arc than the 5"/54 caliber Mark 42 gun which only has 808 m/s of shell velocity ? The only explanation is the difference in the shell mass. In this case the F.Sherman gun has a shell weights 32 kg which is heavier than the 5-inch/38-caliber gun by 7 kg and about 14 kg heavier than the shell of 100 mm BUT then if we compare to something heavier like 8-inch/55-caliber gun or the 203 mm gun found on Des Moines which obviously has even longer barrel than those of 127 mm gun and faster shell velocity by about 15 m/s and shell that weights more by 86 kg and yet the 203 mm gun has very similar arc as the 127 mm gun on F.sherman actually it is even slightly worse as the 203 mm gun has a flight time of 7.5 s where the 127 mm gun flight time is 7.4 s. So yeah there is not really any sensible explanation to how the mechanics work in this game but then again, most of things don't make sense in this game anyway...

Marceau is definitely worth it imo. A top Pick besides Kleber. Good Guns, 4x3 Torps with okayish Range, French Saturation so she is pretty tanky, fairly good AA (as much as AA is even a thing) Insane Speed with +55Kts

Pick Kleber up first if you are thinking Marceau. Marceau handles pretty much the same so if you like Kleber, you will do okay in Marceau. Major difference is the guns. Kleber guns are terrifying. Marceau has standard DD guns (more like Americans). If run n gun is not your thing, take Sherman (camp and swat). Her torpedo angles are weird and really small

Radar and smoke is a nice combination. I don't have the Black, but it seems this could be my next coal ship. Not a DD but a nice combination with smoke, radar and hydro: Plymouth. Playstile looks similar: sit in smoke and spam shells. Most fun ship firsteel I woul say. At least I have more fun in it than with Stalingrad.

Loyang is more a complete DD ship than the Black, Loyang has a sonar that reach 5.4km, smoke and faster torps and ship speed than the Black.

Gimmick against what marceau is already a monster DD to hit. Her being outspotted by other dad's is literally one of her only weaknesses. Not having a heal or smoke are completely negated by her in same speed.

@@j_taylor i meant for it to be "historically accurate" as WG likes to make it's ships *cough cough* looking at the ZF-6 that's broken as all shit... i know damn well it doesn't need anything lol i took on a Montana AND a Moskva in a ranked match and kept resetting the Montana and still managed to out run and survive burning the Moskva out before he hit our cap though not just before he managed to set a final fire that killed me... i run with a full 16km build though as it's absolutely annoying to slow moving BB's and people that like to park and camp behind stuff and the arcs are good enough that you can get over some pretty good islands. i've made a few people regret trying to take me on even with 5k HP left lol she's a monster and i LOVE bum rushing stuff like the Moskva or Smolensk even when they know i'm coming because NOTHING is greater than dumping a few salvo's of citadels and 2 racks of torps on em point blank :) it's even better when they've got AP loaded and you basically parry the entire salvo off your bow at like 5km

Don't underestimate their usefulness. You have to use them differently. Forget trying to torp ships. Torp zones and openings. The are fun, and the torp reload is faster than the torps.

I absolutely love this ship. I got it for coal but, I feel really sorry for people who had it and it was kinda rare. WG really fucked them over. Anyway. I use the recommended captain skills but, I honestly don't like not having radio location and I find it couls do with extra he pen or fire starting ability. saying that, I do ok with the rec setup.

I played last night.... lost 4 games in a row and decided... the hell with this. I'm playing X4. Foundations, instead. (oh...nothing to do with the Black... Just, still pissed about those 4 games. 3 of the games were complete landslides and 2 of them had dead guys, bitching about the living guys.) 4:10 K... it's too freaking early in the morning to listen to that BS. Save up coal until you can get both, so there is no chance of missing either. Both are strong and unique. Black torps are interesting, learn to torp zones rather than ships. If you are not careful, it easy to get destroyed in Black. If pressed I might go with Sherman.

Black is better for overall utility. You get fast guns, high alpha torps, American smokes, radar, AND concealment. Sherman beats it out hard in sheer firepower, but because of Black's excellent stash of consumables, and the hope that your team has enough brains to shoot what you spot, you're almost always in an advantageous position.

I already got sherman, and i play only dds for the past two years! im addicted to french dds, their speed can save you from bad situations! you can simply turn and go back to black! sherman is like a fat pig! cant turn cant start fast and dont have the speed! its pretty pretty slow! i remember once a napoli push my smoke, i try to get away and of course coudnt cause napoli is super fast heavy cruiser! sherman need somebody to spot and be in smoke so can spam sap undetected! without support is a garbage ship! i have been play it less than 20 games and i stop play it! i play a lot marceau! keep in mind that black is even slower than sherman!

Not sure if it's a good ship. The meta has changed dramatically. Short range and short duration radar does not compensate for being mediocre in fire power and torps. Smoke duration has become meaningless when you cant's stay in smoke longer than 30 secs and get constantly torped and radared by enemy ships. NOT worth buying in my opinion

that's why the French DD's are superior in every aspect... not only can basically NO ONE out run them but their torps do decent to high damage(Marceau's are a bit weak at 14,833 but the Kleber's are up at 18k and will straight up wreck a BB with 2 racks from a single side). while the Kleber does get slightly larger guns i still prefer the Marceau's consistent guns, high arcs and of course the wonderful 16km full range setup for just farming battleships and cruisers at a range that makes dodging shells look like a walk in the park lol... every want to piss off a 15.8km Des Moines by out ranging it? how about a Smolensk that struggles to make those Russian laser turrets work? i had a ranked game(Marceau) in which i was the only one that went to the BC side and ended up running face first into a Stalingrad at 6km and a Montana behind him i promptly unloaded all torpedoes as i turned to kite away and by the time i finally burned out from playing a 2v1 on that side i burned the Stalingrad completely out halfway into my cap about 20 seconds before he set a final fire on me. French DDs just get shit done that no other DD can, sure Khabarovsk is nice, Ragnar too but they have that armor plate that makes switching to AP and slapping them for 5-6k a salvo a joke lol like they literally die in 3 good salvos before they can even respond to you! and lets not mention the light cruisers that you CAN citadel in a drive by that will be smashing their keyboards when you dumpster them for half their HP in one go with 7 citadels(namely the Minotaur and Des Moines).

@@samarthraizada oddly enough i was doing a little research on the Marceau, she's an old Z-31 class German Destroyer that was given to Britain after the war who then gave it to France who then refitted the guns and gave it American radar... i'd LOVE to have some American Radar on her! even if it's the shitty 7.5 km or 8 km version that only lasts 20 seconds... it'd be GREAT to counter all those other little gimmicky shits with smoke/hydro or smoke/radar or even to counter the smoke/hydro cruisers...

I disagree with you about the not hitting anything , or having a much harder time, past 12.5km and such. I have my Forrest Sherman at 17.5km range and have very little issues hitting targets. Surprises the crap out of them lol. I must say seeing dd's and other ships running away and imagining what is going through their heads to be hilarious. Mostly along the lines of "how the F are they still shooting me?" :~)

My dude, Forrest Sherman does not have the same ballistics as Black... Forrest Sherman has good ballistics whereas Black has bad ballistics, they don't even remotely compare. It's extremely easy to hit ships with Sherman at range, but Black has a 10 seconds travel time for shells at just 10km...
