For those asking about Jerzsky and Sansonetti. Both are very good commanders but Jerzsky isn’t available at the moment, he will be available “in the future” for coal in the armory according to WG. Sansonetti is only available by completing his collection. I thought the containers you needed to buy in order to get him had been pulled, but they have not. TLDR with him: His talents are very useful with the new Italian BBs and Italian cruisers, if you can, get him.

Jerzy Swirski is a great commander I have it on Halland and he make that ship more OP , Sansonetti ... I need 4 containers to get him , but I wont spend un to 80K coal for him , and 100% I wont spend any money for that pice MF , so I guess I will get him when hell will freze ...

I spent an ungodly amount of coal on resolute and rapid containers, but he was still cheaper to get than Lutjens and I picked up 40+ camos along with him from the containers. Definitely worth it.

Much appreciated! Early on in my WG career I just used coal for ships. Then I figured out that one of these commanders can impact the games across many ships, especially as a 21 pointer. I now have several, and they make all the difference.

there's a slight problem with needing to get Kraken or Confederate to activate a talent, in that by the time you've done that the game is *probably* being won, a more limited achievement that helped at a key moment like say, "You have done x dmg/kills but your team has x fewer ships than the enemy team" so getting that personal boost at that point might save the game.

A bit surprised there’s hardly a mention about the other Special “seasoned”, 10pt captains like John and George Doe, Charles-Henrí Honore, Vasily Znamenski, and Bert Dunkirk. SLM mentions them but they are definitely worth a look-see There are more than those I listed..., but for only 3500 coal or 1500 dubs (which is a steal btw) you get captain with enhanced skills like unique commanders; you just don’t get talents that pop off due to in game performance. In fact, per lump of coal or per dub, these captains give “average” players in mid tiers a real leg up and are quite affordable to get as you’re leveling up.

The newer commands seem better than the older one, especially since their talents are easier to get and can be got multiple times, compared to rare to get and only once per match. Defo feel like there is the typical power creep

The thing I like about the German commander is his specials can activate in coop battles -- no achievements required. From you explanation the Russian heal should work as well.

not if they are premium. One trick though- pay once to retrain the unique commander to a ship you are grinding, then you can use "recall" to move them away to a premium ship, then recall them back to the tech tree grind ship for free.

Luigi Sansonetti via the Resolute and Rapid containers has been very good for my Italian cruiser grind, as his increased range talent is not hard to activate. It ends up being close to the same amount of coal as for the other commanders but I would say well worth it, especially with the increased numbers of Italian tech tree and premium ships to choose from.

@@AH-pq7yw If I remember correctly, then it was four duplicate items to buy back one item in the collection and I had to do that for four items plus the twelve containers that had a non-duplicate items at 6k coal each that means I ended up purchasing 28 containers for 168k coal. A nice bonus when it works out that was that in addition to the CDR I received a lot of other camo and free experience, etc. from the containers.

I should note that France's semi unique commander Jean Jacque Honore is a solid Commander for Bart and Bourgoune. His adrenaline rush improved skill combos with the reload booster very well since it turns the .2 per percent of health lost to .25, aka from a 5th to a 4th. That means (I believe) you get a full 12% off your reload at half health, or for bourgoune, about 3-4 seconds. With reload booster, that's 6-8 seconds off your reload. Seriously, that's nuts benefit and in my mind, worth the collection grind.

These "special Skills" that kick in after achieving "Kraken" and the like... to me , seem like if you are a good enough player to achieve the unlocking of these special skills, well then you don't need these boosts to your skills.

I just got Gunther Lutjenz the other day. I based Getting him on 2 things. #1 My favorite Ship Line. #2 the amount of premium ships I have in the German Line. I chose Kurfurst for his Only tech tree ship. It cost you 500 dabloons to swap him on tech tree ships. Whence you choose Your best tech Tree ship for him. Only use him on that 1 tech tree ship, and you can then swap him for free, to any of your germen premiums. I have 10 Germen premium ships I use Gunther Lutjenz on.

Yamamoto on Akizuki/ Kitakaze/ Harugumo is easy to get 1st blood and kraken, i activate the skills for 1st blood and kraken almost every game in a kitakaze as its my most played gunboat DD with over 1500 games, i also have a very aggressive playstyle kinda due to playing a lot of FPS games.

The problem is even if it's easy to activate his first skill, it's almost worthless. IJN ships tend to have a low amount of consumables and the ones they do have enjoy a long reload. This means getting an extra consumable has very low value. Compare this to the Russian captain with the same First Blood bonus, but on ships that need consumables more AS WELL as having a very reliable and powerful second skill... The gap is massive.

Yes. Its only free training if you swap him to premium ships. I just got Gunther Lutjens and for His assigned ship I chose Kurnfurst. So That cost me 500 gold to train him but makes Kurnfust his Priority ship. Even though its a tech tree ship. He can be put on Kurnfurst free after the training. But I can not put him on any other tech tree. I found that if I do train him for another tech tree ship, that I then have to train him again for kurnfurst. So I now leave him on Kurnfurst for his main assigned ship. I do swap him to all my premium ships and back to kurnfurst and that cost nothing that way.

What's the difference between Unique and Event Commanders?

Event commanders have no special skills. The hierarchy is Unique, Seasoned, Event, and regular. Look for the star in front of their name. If they have one they are enhanced, the exception being Dasha Perova, who is of course a star in her own right.

I will go out on a limb and say Kuznetsov is the best commander and Isoroku is the worst. At least as far as their triggered special skills go. In TCG terms Kuznetsov is a "Lose less" commander while Isoroku is a "Win more" commander. If you're getting a Kraken chances are that you're already winning by a good margin. And making you win harder doesn't make that big of a difference unless it's one of those ultrarare games where both teams are awful and you're left having to do a 1 vs 7 in the Yamato. On the other hand Kuznetsov's ability kicks in whenever you need it, short of being devstruck. Giving you a free get out of jail card and chance to turn the game around.

Word of warning: Mountbatten sugar-coats Lutjens's effectiveness significantly in this video, and this is coming from a German BB and CA main who has the captain. He's absolutely correct about the cruisers. Lutjens is great on the cruisers because it's fairly easy to get the 140 main battery hits. I use him on my Hindy, personally, because that's the best use for him IMO. But for a BB, it'll be a real pain in this meta getting the secondary hits you need, since a secondary build is very point hungry [Meaning you'll have to suffer the entire time levelling him up/burn a huge amount of commander XP to speed-level him up to the point he's useful] and secondary accuracy has been seriously nerfed with the Commander Rework. The only feasible way to active the secondary reload skill now is for you to get closer than 10km to a target that's tanky enough to not be focused down by your team quickly, while also still being ignored by the enemy team and allowed to get those hits before you lose so much health it's irrelevant. Secondary accuracy is so weak that trying to hit a moving target is going to be really annoying even with a full secondary build. The spotting skill is only really useful on the DDs or CVs, as neither the BBs nor the cruisers are fast enough nor stealthy enough to get those spotting ribbons early. So yeah, just keep these things in mind before burning 175k coal on the captain. You may be disappointed otherwise, unless you have a cruiser to play him on as well.

Lutjens is awesome in Mainz and Munchen. I only have T-61 but am grinding for ZF-6, and he's great on DD's too. And on Pommern.... 😂 I literally got Halsey last night, and haven't even specced him yet. I'm hoping he's good on cruisers 'cause that's what I mostly play. Yamamoto is good but I only got a Kraken once in the whole time I've been playing. Fortunately that's not all he has to offer. You forgot Sansonetti, who gives you 10% extra range when you kill someone. I'm getting Cunningham next, just for Thunderer... 😁😎

Only been able to get Kraken once in the Musashi. I was almost dead and was just taking as many with me as I could on a loss. It was a huge heal. But it's so hard to activate. Lutjens almost every game I activate, be it Hindy or Pommern.

First Blood gives you an extra heal: it's pretty common if you play a BB aggressively enough.

Some of his skills are very nice, the improved turret traverse really helps with both Yamato and also Zao. In both cases there turret traverse is quite slow and Yamamoto helps a lot with that. As others have pointed out, the first blood achievement isn't that hard to get and has a nice benefit with the extra charges.

I would go for commander first, then the ship. I can level the commander on my other ships. No reason to get pommern and not have lutjens, since lutjens is a huge buff to the ship. On the other hand, I have so many ships, I cannot play them all. Pommern would be another ship that I won't use. I grabbed the commander because I can use him on the ships I play. Stupid tech tree resets made premium ships obsolete. I see no reason to waste time in a premium ship, when I need hundreds of battles on reset trees, and have limited time.

@@danh7411 Lütjens is only good on Hindenburg, Kuznetsov is always effective. When are you going to activate those 3 spotting ribbons and then have to be already at lower hp so the heal is useful? Or have a brawl activating your secondary skills? Kuznetsov is always guaranteed to get you out of trouble as long as you don't detonate or get blown up in one salvo. As long as you don't have Hindenburg I wouldn't recommend Lütjens and especially as first captain I would buy Kuznetsov again haha

But using VMF BBs in this meta is suffering so sure, I still recommend Lutjen over Kuznetzov

My man, French and Russian really aren't your languages. :D The baguette's name is "Fee-LEEP Oh-BOY-no". First name's weight on the end, last name's weight on the middle. The sound you are making at the end there is "gnon", like "Sauvignon" (Soh-Veeg-Non), but that's not how his name is spelt. The Russian guy's name is "COOS-Neht-Soff", weight on the first part of three, sharp T in the middle. The syllable breakdown isn't "Kuzne / Tsov", but it's three distinct sounds, Kuz / Net / Sov.

As a native speaker of both French and English, I have to disagree with some of your French pronunciation suggestions. Any French pronunciation suggestion with syllable stress is fundamentally incorrect. French doesn't have lexical stress at all. You never need to learn what syllable to stress because stressing is not part of the basic pronunciation of anything in French (by default, syllables are equal in length and stress). You have a light stress at the end of statements and stressing for emphasis or emotional reasons but never to get basic pronunciation right like in English. The cadence of the two languages is very different as a result. That lack of familiarity with mandatory stressing is why French accents typically have frequent incorrect stresses in English (they guess when they don't know the stress pattern just like English speakers guess at grammatical gender in French). In French, if you weight syllables like in English, it ruins your cadence and screws up your vowels. Phillippe is two quick equally stressed syllables. Auboyneau is three quick equally stressed syllables. Also oi/oy as a vowel sound roughly corresponds to "wah" in English (nothing matches the English OY sound in French although EUIL comes closest). Unless the captain had a distinctive regional phonology applied to his last name, o-bwa-no would be a typical pronunciation.
