Yeah, I mean 1986 was far less troubled in every respect than the here and now. Me though, I'm thinking of The The's "Armageddon Days are Here Again" as being the song with lyrics more relevant today than 1989.

RIP. Evidently Wallinger had a brain aneurysm back in 2001. He survived it, though I guess he lost peripheral vision. It was a miracle he lived through it; many don't. Lived 23 years until the stroke that laid him to rest a couple weeks ago. All in all, a great artist who should've been bigger. One of the better 80s singles, right here.

One of my all-time favorite songs! Timeless. It's poetry, it's magic, it's perfect. I was working at a record store in the late 1980s when I first discovered the band on a 2-cassette collection for charity (I think for world peace?). There were a lot of great artists represented (Eurythmics was one, IIRC), but this track, by this band, instantly blew me away and became the absolute standout. I played it in the store, I played it in the car, I played it everywhere until it became part of me. I felt it so much then, and I feel it so much now. Thank you, Karl, and thank you to everyone in the band, for creating a masterpiece and making a difference.

I always had just the chorus of this song in my head, just a superficial perception of it as a kid but, during Covid i was listening to stuff from the 80s and 90s and rediscovered this. Being an American here in late May of 2020, it's as though Karl had a crystal ball. All of his examples of societal failure are still completely accurate but unfortunately as someone else said below, the tomorrow he mentions is today and we're about to pay the bill as our leaders manage the decline of a nation instead of taking the myriad of actions needed to right the ship and wash the embarrassment from our species. If you string this and Is It Like Today into a playlist you have all you need for the current reality. A short playlist sure, but likely appropriate as the time left for things as we grew up knowing and expecting them to be don't have a lot of time left either.
