My GF John Lee 'dude' Winkler caught 390 pounders in the 40's and 50's as a commercial fisherman on the Arkansas River near Little Rock. They'd destroy his nets and drown in the process trying to get fish. His nets were hand made, hoops too. I used to watch him make them. Having all that work destroyed is no joke. @@torigeorge2770 Far from being an idiot. Fish of that size are several decades old and the biggest fish of most species tend to be the females. Killing a fish of that size solely as a macho trophy is absolutely unforgivable. If killing for the pot, then it is better to kill medium sized fish for any particular species. With a world population of 7 billion people (and rising) the days of killing everything we catch are over, unless we want to create an unbalanced, slum ecology with many important and interesting species missing.

@@portcullis5622 lmfao, there are plenty of fish in the water... Not everyone enjoys fishing and a very slim amount of people encounter legendary fish like these being showcased. @portcullis56225 жыл бұрын
@@qualityinspector920 I am not in the USA, so I only know about these fish from other people's reports, but I stand by the point about returning the larger female fish. I do not have a problem with people taking the odd fish for food, as long as it is sustainable for that water. As an example, here in Britain we have some rare fish; ice age survivors such as the Arctic charr. Despite a climate that is warming, they have survived in deep glacial lakes, but they are vulnerable at spawning time and can easily be caught on bait from the shallows. Some greedy fishmongers (can't call them anglers) can not resist exploiting them and kill as many as possible. Unforgivable, especially at spawning time, when there are plenty of trout fisheries where fish can be kept for eating.

The garfish is a long and slender fish with a laterally compressed body, and grows to about 50 to 75 cm (20 to 30 in) in length. The jaws are elongated and armed with sharp teeth. The pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins are situated well back on the body and the latter two are similar in appearance. Positioning the fins so far back gives greater flexibility to the body. The lateral line is set low on the flanks. The colour of the body is bluish green with a silvery grey belly and the bones are green.
