40 years ago, I made a custom "thor" hammer and drilled holes in each end for powerful magnets. I would drop the nails on the roof and the heads all line up because of the slope of the roof. Im partially with you on that one but being a smoker myself, i tend to work better when i am not craving a cigarette. However with that being said ive also went all day long at work without smoking many times. When your learning its difficult and smoking helps ease the mind (sadly). Still though, if he wants it hell work for it but every once and a while you just gotta say go smoke a stogie and come back in 5 mins refreshed, ready to work and listen. Ive had to do that many times with apprentices.. I do commercial HVAC for a living and smoking on the job isnt always allowed. Only in open construction sites without doors or sheetrock.
@120ohm5 жыл бұрын
@@jasonscott598 Your comment defending smokers is hilarious. I personally think its disrespectful to smoke anywhere any time... Especial on someone else's property where your getting paid to work. You might as well be tipping back some beers or picking your nose... It blows my mind that people still smoke in 2019 knowing full well the extreme health risk. You sound like a baby when you say that it helps "ease your mind". Man up and drink a glass of water or eat a snack, that's all your body requires when learning a new task and exerting physical energy. The only thing making this kid nervous is having a camera in his face.... Shingling fast is a great skill to acquire, but to teach it on the fist day seem weird. Let the kid learn the basics so his mind is in the right space. Speed will help you make a few extra dollars but at the end of the day you want quality. I know you can have both, to a point, but like I said it needs to be acquired, it will feel more natural if you let him find his own rythem.

@@120ohm man tipping back some beers? Absolutely no relationship there as for cigarettes dont make you intoxicated. Yes i smoke, yes i am aware of the heath risks and yes it is in my plan to quit, however with that being said do you expect me to work harder/faster if you tell me im not allowed to smoke? Thats my own choice, ask any other smoker if theyd be a better worker when someone takes their smokes. If hes gonna smoke then let him. If you wanna change your worker so bad then you can deal with helping him quit amd teaching him how to shingle. Oh and this guy also dips tobacco, im not sure which one is worse

@@120ohm c'mon , tipping back beers ? I dont smoke , and I dont drink anymore but no comparison between the two . 2-12 inches from the ...........really????? LMAO. For fuck's sake, lol.
@NWIVeteranConstruction5 жыл бұрын
Yea you want your nail one inch from the end and you dont want to put your second nail until at least 12 inches. That way the seam doesn't land close to a nail. That's a potential for a leak in the future
@dredger9mm5 жыл бұрын
Figured the tar paper and/or ice shield would prevent any of that leakage. Besides, the nail's covered up by the next shingle..... Moisture's gonna roll right over the top (and if the nail's going through the sealant tar strip anyways.....) of the previous shingle..... Methinks you kinda like micro-managing, lol. If the 3-tab gaps are that big, and worrisome, then find a different shingle. ........Alright, all that being said, I am not trying to start a fight or anything, and I do really enjoy watching your channel, brother. You kick some ass for sure, and I'm just gonna leave it at that. Keep on keepin' on, because we like to see it.

Those guys should be ground guys for about two years before they ever pick up a gun.

Who’s going to spend 2 years picking up the scrap and carrying bundles up the ladder? Nobody’s going to stick around for that and you’re going to be going through workers like McDonald’s.
