We had our baby at 20+1. I developed severe Preeclampsia, severe PIH and severe HELLP. I almost died. I had placental abruption and was dilated and nothing they could do. She lived 80 minutes and fought with all she had. My heart goes out to the moms who have lost a infant

c1n9r6v3 YES! (I was an RT at Palomar and Pomerado for 20 yrs. 1993-2013. Many, many shifts @“babyland”, NI/PEDS/OB.) My years and years of training and experience, with some of the finest, most wonderful sets of God’s hands, eyes, ears and heart were the Dr’s, NNP’s, RN’s & RT’s that He put there to help Him. I’m retired now. We high-tailed it out of Calif. 3-1/2 yrs ago, and now live in beautiful North Idaho. After all my NICU yrs in San Diego, I became “the family.” One of my daughters became a very high risk pregnancy. Due to physical trauma at about 20 weeks, things were day by day. Hour by hour. I reached out everywhere I could asking for prayer support for my daughter and her baby. A lot of time spent in prayer, on my old knees. My wife and I did as much as possible to keep our daughter from sinking into dispair, and learning “the system” here, and what our resources were. At this point I have to jump ahead and say all was well in the end. Baby Dakota was born 15 weeks early. 1lb, 12oz. But, we had to fight tooth and nail every bit of the way to get a fire under the doctors here. We had to have our daughter admitted to the area Children’s hospital, when she became too unstable and bleeding too heavy at home. But again, put a fire under them. Once she was safely admitted we felt safer for them both. But no small task getting to that point. What it all came down to, was the issue of 24 weeks. Try as hard as we could, nobody would budge on the magic figure of 24 weeks. To the day! Before that day, nobody would agree to do anything to try to evaluate Baby Dakota for viability. We could not get any hospital to take her before 24 weeks. And no doctot would even evaluate. And here is this terrific story about this little girl born at 22 weeks. She is so fortunate to be born in San Diego! Oh, there sre other things too. But Dakota is here and safe. San Diego is miles ahead of other parts of the country in how things are done. I’m very thankful for the years of experience, to know when things did not look or sound right. And to know just how much pressure to exert, and in which direction. Thankfully, all Dakota’s care team really liked her, and she was fortunate to keep the same RN as much as possible. We still jeep in touch with him, and send photos, etc. Dakota is 16 months now. Almost ready to walk. We think she could, but she doesn’t know that yet. Her vision has been a drawback. She had laser surgery already, and has to wear glasses. She had two Moderate size ICB’s @ 5 days old. All seemed to resolve well. No motor deficits. Go Team Dakota!

▓▒░ @ George Cullen ▬ Wow. ` That's quite an experience you've gone through. I had to look up the abbreviations in your comment to me. ( I found most of them . . . except for ICB. ) ` I don't know where in North Idaho you're at. But the time zone in _this here country_ ( Malaysia ) is currently fourteen hours ahead of Boise, Idaho and fifteen hours ahead of Benewah County, Idaho. ░▒▓ `

My son was born here years and years ago. Every time we would drive by we’d wave and tell him it was “his” hospital. When he was five, he started crying when we did this. When asking his why, he sobbed, “why would you get me at a SHARK hospital?” When we laughed he was distressed, then explained to him it was SHARP. Wonderful place, many, many babies born there, each as precious as this tiny girl, and our “shark” baby.

No way...so this was the 3 lb baby I heard of when I was in the NICU for my son in March. My SO was talking to a nurse in regards to our son, and how the NICU at Mary Birch is one of the best, and how the smallest baby ever born was staying here in the NICU and is 3 lbs (at the time in March). Both my kids (recently gave birth) had to go to the NICU, but let me assure you that the NICU has had both of my babies safety and the nurses and staff there are just the absolute greatest in both newborn care and supportive parent care. I gave birth to there twice, and 100% would do it again and recommend that hospital. Thank you Sharp Mary Birch for delivering me my babies with love and care!

This little one redefines the word "miracle", hands down. She drew her strength from those who watched over and protected her... even the security guard had a deep sense of belonging. To those who faught back the tears... nooo... let those tears rush forth and validate the release of emotions you feel at this moment and many more. The whole reason for humans to get tearful, cry, smile and grin is to release emotion. Please don't stuff anything back inside you... its ok to cry guys, even if your dad told you "men don't cry"... will yah, they do!

@@idreambig5970 Well the easy stuff yes. The Stethoscope was "invented" by a layman simply using a piece of hollow wood like bamboo. (technique used all over the world for millennia) Later Carved w conical ends......... But REAL instruments are made by BIOMED ENG. BTW the Bili light "Invention" was an accidental discovery. AFTER leaving a light turned ON uninterrupted........... But it only alleviates the skin discoloration. Not the actual cause of the Jaundice..... (Dysfunctional Liver at Birth. which usually gets going on its own in a few days)
@jesscast51225 жыл бұрын
@@idreambig5970 Ok Then you are a dumb nurse. bc the bili light or sunlite merely reduces the appearance of Jaundice which is merely a SYMPTOM of the Problem and it does NOTHING for the problem of the dysfunctional Liver. so Technically Bili lights are TRIVIAL and IRRELEVANT aside from cosmetic Reasons....... So ti has nothing to do with REAL MEDICAL Instrumentation..... and MY comments was specific to INSTRUMENTATION INVENTED by Biomed Eng. BTW noticing certain things ACCIDENTALLY are NOT "INVENTIONS".

When my twin grandsons were born at Willis-Knighton South Hospital in Shreveport, Hospital in May of 1999, they were born at 34 weeks, I believe. They weighed 4 lbs. 3 oz. and 4 lbs. 7 oz. The neonatologist, Dr. Lewis, told us of a study he had done on preemies to find out which babies do the best. At that time they had just had a baby girl who had weighed 12 oz. at birth, finally get to go home. She was a little black baby and was doing fantastic. Dr. Lewis told us that what he had discovered was that black baby girls do best…then white girls…then black boys and bringing up at the last was white boys. Now he did not mention Asian, Native American, or Hispanic so I don’t know if he included all of those babies in with white babies or just did not include them in the study at all. But I think he was trying to prepare us if our little white boys didn’t do well. But they did great and only had to spend 2 weeks in the NICU. They have done extremely well, hardly ever being sick as they grew up. Both are smart, have finished college, are musically gifted. Playing guitar, singing and song writing…they are great at imitating foreign dialects and very funny comedians. Their BA’s are in communication. I have noticed that most of the time when you see a tiny preemie baby that survives and does well…it turns out to be a little black baby girl. I have always thought that that must mean that black women are VERY strong when they grow up!

Wow. What a miracle. I’ve had 3 babies that have all ended up in the NICU. The experience is daunting, it’s exhausting, it’s scary, but each time I stepped foot on the ward, each familiar face I saw be it nurses, doctors, staff or fellow NICU parents, I felt the emotional support. The nurses and staff on the NICU ward have a certain compassion that carries us mothers through each day that our baby is in the NICU. We trust these nurses with our baby’s life without ever meeting them before without even knowing their names we have complete trust in the nurses to care for our baby. They are heaven sent that’s for sure!

Such a tiny little dot, at the earliest edge of life, even then only half that size should be, from poor growth in utero. Less than half a pound is just an incredible size to start from. What an amazing, tiny, strong soul to beat those odds. Power to you tiny girl. Love from Australia 💗🇭🇲

My second cousin female was born weighing 1lb and second cousin male 1lb 2oz both lived and adults now. However my son gest 22 to 23 weeks didn't make it he was half the size he was supposed to be. His sac never closed for whatever reason he is now our little angel.

@@whoaretheyhiding798 I personally believe after my stay on Earth that there's more living to do after death. I disagree that Atheists are heartless. Maybe some are, but the few that I've met were kind and civil. Maybe God will accept them. I don't think God is about snubbing his own children lol!

My baby cousin was also born very small, not as small as that, but about the size to fit in a ziploc bag, and currently she is a healthy, active toddler.

I was born 4 months prematurely. I am lucky that I don't have any handicaps, except for some psychological illness(BPD). My mom told me I became stronger and stronger by day because she secretly fed me more milk than the nurses told her to do :p. I am 27 years old and I will turn 28 next month.
