Great that you two were able to fly on a Falcon 900EX (valued at $12M -$15M) form Nebraska to Indiana and return. After touring the facility, are you going "all in" on BECK's seed? The corporate flying I performed was on Cessna Jets, Gulfstream and Pilatus. Great career! Yes, it is a great way to fly and miss all the preboarding stuff with the airlines. Glad you enjoyed the flight time.

Congrats on getting chosen (earned!) to do this tour! The greenhouse/breeding stuff is fascinating. City people have NO concept of what all goes into the food supply chain, and the free market makes it all work. As a farm kid I never envisioned being on a charter Jet -- but I ended up traveling a half a dozen times that way. It is awesome -- walk in the FBO and say Hi to a friendly staff, get on a plane, without some authoritarian TSA Perv digging thru your stuff or feeling you up, chat with the crew, experience actual legroom onboard.....Traveling like John Kerry..... Keep working like you are and you will do it again I am betting!

It is always special to visit a seed grower operation, even more so when that is a family owned concern. The big mega corps have their place I suppose but a family operation I would think has much more empathy with their customers, not all about shareholder profit. Hoping you have a great winter season, leading into a fantastic planting season.

You would be surprised. If you are running a big operation and have to do a certain amount of travel you can very rapidly get to the point where fractional jet ownership or lease based ride sharing becomes cost effective. The airlines and the TSA have made airline travel so difficult, time consuming and unreliable that the lost time during travel figures into the calculation. I've done business jet travel myself and the ability to go somewhere halfway across the county, conduct business all day, and be home for dinner with my family was amazing. I will say that, in all honesty, it's a pretty sweet way to travel. Great video!

Your KZbin Channel is a lot of fun, you would be a good educator. You are enthusiastic and make it interesting as well as fun. Since you are on the subject of seed, I have a question that has been bothering me for a long time. Cornstalks produce one ear of corn per harvest. Soybeans average 51.9 bushels and wheat 51.7 bushels per acre, while corn produces about 15 bushels in a good year. With all the overhead involved to farm, how do corn farmers make a profit? Is there profit in the silage? I guess I'm worried about resources and the future. 🤔😕
@scottsoper12132 жыл бұрын
OOPs; corn averages over 200 bushels an acre. also see Cole the Cornstar KZbin video "How Much Money Do Farmer's Make" Also Grant and Laura have well above average yields per acre. There is likely no money in silage but it will likely help one feed ones animals in winter which one hopes to make money on.

Great video Laura. When I was trying to break into the private jet industry, I met some pilots from John Deere. They said their flights were half what you experienced. Picking up farmers from different areas and bringing them back to the company for a tour and discussions. Basically a big sales trip. This is a far cry from what most people think about business jet fliers, stuffy rich people, well dressed, sipping Champaign, and eating caviar. Beck's uses their jets as a business tool just like a tractor. It serves a purpose to get a job done. I hope people see why business jets exist! (Now off my soap box). Are all the seeds Becks grows and sells organic? I am curious about your views comparing organic and non-organic seeds and if they are good for you down the line? thanks Laura.
@scottsoper12132 жыл бұрын
A business jet is a fun business tool!!! GMO crops, depending on which crop, make weeding easier and produce more. One farmer who was growing certified organic said that on the whole we can't feed the world using organic because it takes more ground to grow the same amount. I should of saved that video...... There is a reason why GMO was invented and that is to produce more and do that more easily.
@wannabedal-adx4582 жыл бұрын
@@scottsoper1213 I get that. But some countries are starting to ban GMOs, based on evidence of what they do to people long term. I'm not a tree hugger, but I do believe that putting the best food source into your body is one of the keys to long term health.
@scottsoper12132 жыл бұрын
@@wannabedal-adx458 My opinion is that there is no health issue with GMOs any more than with say peanuts. Some people are so allergic to peanuts that they could die if exposed! Should we ban peanuts because of these few? I believe they have banned them on airliners but the rest of us should be able to enjoy them in other locations. Also I do not trust governments to make the correct choice. Yes they are banning GMOs in some places, but is that in the interest of the people or in the interest of a government that wants more power? Netherlands is a perfect example of dictating farm policy in the name of the people and the planet but now they will likely not be exporting food but importing food. Given that Governments seem to believe in Man Made Global Climate Change for political reasons I am inclined to believe that banning GMO food is a similar effort to disrupt and get control just for the sake of power.
