The T28 Super Heavy Tank was an American heavily armored tank self-propelled gun designed for the United States Army during World War II. It was originally designed to be used to break through German defenses of the Siegfried Line, and was later considered as a possible participant in the planned invasion of the Japanese mainland. The 100-ton vehicle was initially designated a heavy tank, it was re-designated as the 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95 in 1945, and then renamed in 1946 as the Super Heavy Tank T28

Looking at the T95, I can see where Keith Laumer got at least some of his inspiration for the BOLO series of science fiction tank books. Back in World War II, tanks like this must have been out of a ground-pounder's worst nightmare.

There is one thing that bugs me. the t28/95 are the same vehicle, but in pupular games they are portrayed as two different ones. The t28/95 would never go into battle with its outer tracks missing, because they only took them off for transport purposes.

+gabriel matijevic It is a T28 superheavy tank, leave the WOT nonsense behind. The vehicle was developed as a super-heavy tank designed to breach the Siegried Line fortifications, and so designated in the tank nomenclature, coming somewhere between T26 (Pershing), and T29 (the turreted 105mm tank eveyone at Tier VII loves). (T27 was taken by an armoured car and GMC). About 1945/46, I'd need to check, someone decided that the thing wasn't really a tank, and was more a self-propelled artillery piece. This it was redesignated to a Gun Motor Carriage, and the GMCs were way up the numbering list. T95 was available. Then, a year or so later, they decided that perhaps it actually was a tank after all, and renamed it back to T28.

@CosmoCircleTv
@CosmoCircleTv 5 жыл бұрын
@@ceh6656 correct, except in World of Tanks they use the T95 designation as the T-28 is being represented as the earlier prototype, they initialy designed the T-28, but because of the heavy weight they were forced to add another set of tracks... its basically the same prototype but upgraded.
