WWII was the era of Grindelwald (the big bad before Voldemort). They tried making a Movie series about Grindelwald fighting against a Young Dumbledore to explain what the wizards were doing during WWII, but the Fantastic Beast Series completely flopped and wont be continuing any further.

At 9:10, if you didn't know, during the time of WWII in the Harry Potter series, was the reign of terror of Gellert Grindelwald, the predecessor to Voldemort which was, in fact, German.
